Here's my PSPGO story: I love this thing. I went and joined the Navy, and after boot camp, the first time they let you outside, I went to the store to get a PSP. That dumb store in Pensacola only had the Go version. Whatever, I just needed to game. I still have that PSPGo, and it was with me every time I was at sea.

same!!! i wasn't even mad when the vita was later announced and it was obvious that the Go wasn't going to be supported very far down the road, because to me the psp go has always been a system all about TRUE portability with as few consolations as they could make in achieving that goal. No other portable has that kind of 'features to size' ratio!!!

Still own the PSP 2000 that my mother got me for Día de reyes when I was a child. I'm 20 now and it took me 12 years to finally get a memory stick duo and now i'm in the process of getting more games for the system. I remember meeting only ONE person who owned a PSP GO. Not much love for this device, but there is no doubt it was ahead of it's time. I'm surprised on how much Sony inovated, but personally I feel the old PSP has aged much better than the GO did.

If you go onto the PS Store via the PSP, you'll see all the icons have been replaced with friendly reminders that the store no longer exists. But the download option is still there. Go into it and you'll find a complete list of all your PSP purchases. Even purchases you've made via the PS3 or PS4.

Unfortunately no PSP model aside from the Go has DS3 Bluetooth connectivity. I'd kill to be able to play my UMD's on my 3000 with a DS3, especially titles that regularly use the analog stick like Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception. Wouldn't hurt to play Wipeout Pure and Pulse with a controller either.

Can't you just connect a PS3 controller to the PSP? The cable to connect a PSP to a PC is the same as the PS3 charging cable.
@SkyScourgeGod
@SkyScourgeGod 5 жыл бұрын
No because the cable that connects the PSP to your computer has a traditional usb port on one end and a mini usb on the other. Both the Dualshock 3 and PSP have a mini usb port on them so one end couldn't fit into one of the two devices. To drive the point even further, even if you got a cable with a mini usb on both ends, it still would not work because the PSP has no drivers built in to accept any usb connected controllers. Not even fan hacks or homebrew will let you do that either. Simply put, if its not called a PSPGo or a PSTV, your Dualshock will not work with it. Period. Sucks to, I'd love to play my UMD's with a DS3...

It wasn't mentioned in the video, but in Japan they had special kiosks that you could essentially dump your physical media to your PSP. You did lose the UMD in the process and there was a fee associated with it, but it was the only official way of getting some physical only games into your PSP go officially. Also I think it should be mentioned of those downloadable titles, MANY original PSP games didn't make the digital cut. Digital games are also somewhat expensive since they don't really go down in cost all that much to buy. The best workaround for the PSP go is to buy an older PSP and use it to backup your games. PSP games are kinda like the other "old" cartridge systems, the games are not really protected much except for the disc not fitting in your PC to rip it. Furthermore, the PSP was designed to play digital games and so there are not any hacks or hoops to jump through---you get the game backups (however you choose), drag/drop them on a custom firmware PSP, and you are off to the races.

Great video! I bought the PSP Go on its launch day and I love it. The guy at Best Buy was trying to convince me to get the regular PSP but this was my first handheld and I got into the idea of all-digital because I had recently been playing games on an iPod Touch, which was pretty recent at the time. I remember checking out the PS store in the morning on launch day of the Go, because they didn’t officially announce what games would be there - most of the PSP games were not even available digitally at the time, so they added a ton on launch day. I guess this was also my chance to get these cool games that I missed like God of War Chains of Olympus, and not need to hunt down discs. Anyway I loved it and eventually got the Vita after that. If you're PSP1000, 2000 or 3000 is running custom firmware, you can simply activate the custom firmware, set the UMD drive as the USB source and then copy ISOs of whatever UMD you have inserted in your computer, and then of course you can copy them to a PSP Go running custom firmware or a Vita running Adrenaline.

I used to have the PSP-3000 and some of my favorite games.... - Final Fantasy - Final Fantasy II - Final Fantasy III - Final Fantasy IV Complete - Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core - Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions - God of War Chain of Olympus - God of War Ghost of Sparta It'd be nice if these games were ported/remastered to PS4. In regards to the PSP-Go... I think Sony was thinking really far ahead into the future, but implementing an all digital handheld game console at that time was too early. Granted it would eliminate the need to use the fragile and cumbersome UMD format and given that games would be installed, it would load faster. However, an all digital game system was way too early back then.

Along with the psp, to dock or not to dock. Yes, you can use it on its own, with the corresponding video cable, but with the dock you can also charge it while playing on a big tv. Without the dock you can play as long as your internal battery holds up. No way to charge it because the charging port is used for the video cable.

I have a PSP Go and I still love it. There actually is an easier way to DL games for it (assuming you dont talk about it later in the video; I paused at the PS3 method) but you can just go to the PS Network website, log-in to your account, buy the games you want on ur PSP (PSP or PS1 classic games) and then on your PSP (which needs to be connected to your wifi) go to the Account Management, log-in and connect online, and go to Download/Purchase History (or whatever it is called) and you can just download the games you just purchased directly to the PSP

Nintendo is just really good at marketing. They even managed to convinced a lot of Switch buyers that the Switch was a hybrid console, when it's a handheld. Like you pointed out, Sony's later PSP versions and the Vita could do pretty much everything that the Switch can. I don't have the Go, but my PSP3k is amazing. I use it for all the PS1 games I play. It's easy to put games on it, and the component adapter for TV is really cheap. Great buttons as well, apart from the analog stick, but I don't know if any of the other handhelds are any better. The switch have a better stick, but it's also a lot more fragile because of it.

Great video MJR. Did you know the PS Vita w/ custom firmware is also capable of TV-Out type functionality using a dock? The dock is actually a raspberry pie device with custom software that streams the image over wi-fi but there's very little latency and you're able to use a Dual Shock 3/4 using a custom plugin. Also there's a 'Dummy Adapter' built for the PSP Go that allows you to use standard SD Cards on the device. You can ditch the proprietary/expensive 16GB Sony Cards and add 200GB on your PSP Go!

Fun fact about the PSP Go: You can play PSone downloads at native 240p resolution on it while hooked up to the official dock with component cables. Just switch the TV out resolution to 480i in the PSP Go menu and the PSo games will auto display in 240p. I learned this from My Life in Gaming. PSP Go with the dock, component cables, PSP charger and a synced Dual Shock 3 (need a PS3 to sync) is he best way to play official PSN PSone downloads. Much better than spending hundreds on games like Tron Bonne, Tomba, etc.

This method of transferring purchased games is only used because the PSP store was discontinued. At the time you could purchase games directly from the device, but there wasnt background downloads and the wifi chip is kinda slow even at the time, so being able to purchase, download and keep playing was cool. Even then, you didnt need a PS3 especifically, on the PSP go it came with a cd with a program that you could install and purchase content on your computer to transfer to the device, like iTunes was with an iPod.

@singular on1 Completely greedy. Charging for online multiplayer like xbox which everyone knows is total b.s. now even Nintendo is jumping on that greed wagon. Proprietary memory cards for Vita almost killed it single handedly. Can't plug Vita directly into TV like you could with PSP, instead making you buy "PSTV". a separate unit which isn't able to play all Vita titles. Sony went backwards with this newer generation. Vita should have been where Switch is now in success. But only better. Sony blew it, yes, greed and losing sight of what made them great was at the root. Sony completely lost their way from what separated them from the gaming industry pack.

Bought 5 of these around 2010 and the dock when Gamestop was liquidating them for $50 each (I don't remember if they were new or used). My four young adopted siblings (the oldest was eleven at the time) had DS systems and kept losing games, so for a planned trip to Washington state, I suggested PSP-Gos. I had just bought one myself (upgraded with a 16 gb memory card for a total of 32 gb) and had already amassed a pretty good library of digital purchases for my PS3 (minis and PSOne games were playable) and previous PSP, including Phantasy Start Portable 2 (they loved PSO, as we had it on the Game Cube). What was great about digital purchases, prior to the fall of 2011 anyway, is that could be activated on up to 5 separate systems at once, so we could all play together without having to purchase the game for each of us. The only downside that I saw at the time was that certain games were no longer/were never available digitally, such as Final Fantasy 1 and 2, Crisis Core, Dungeon Siege, Valkyrie Profile, etc. Starting in the fall of 2011, Sony dropped the number of activatable systems down to 2 PSPs and 2 PS3s, though you could still use five copies on previous purchases.
