As a 90’s baby the NES taught me a lot about life. 1) You want to fail fast and learn/adapt even faster. Stay humble. 2) Life is not easy nor fair. No elaboration required. 3) It takes time to master anything in life but the reward is great.

Really? They made the games harder overseas because rentals were legal in the US yet illegal in Japan. It's why many modern game collections and switch online have save states and rewind (except n64). Quality of life is way better than overexerting yourself, especially with grind heavy rpgs like dragon quest 3, ff2 or fft (tailwind, arcane strength and steel/praise to max bravery make an easier experience, with war of the lions making knights and meliadoul useful for rending unequipped parts for damage), which modern versions enhance experience. Dq3 has an easy mode in the upcoming version so they tried (I wouldn't double dip), but ff2 took off random encounters to kill if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, or annoy with trap doors while allowing double shield attacks to boost fists and shields that vastly improves ultima for its level formula).

@@MrVariantI think we all agree QoL for retro gaming got way better with save states. But that’s not what this commenter is highlighting. Honestly, you had to be there. If I meet anybody who genuinely has finished even a single NES game, from the pre-emulation days, it tells me a lot about that person. I would consider it a valid interview question if you were hiring a millennial.

I think initially I (and others) saw this as just a NES Remix without the remix, but this sold me more on the game. It's really a speedrunner game, and it honestly looks like a lot of fun. That mario battle at the end was down to the wire, and it's nice to see Nintendo have some official support or interest in the Speedrunning community in some capacity

I remember going to the Nintendo World Championships in 1990 that was the first year it was held. It was at the Jacob Javits Center where I live in NY, I didn't enter but I was playing games on the show floor that were not released yet like Castlevania III, good times 🎮😎

Here are some issues that I found. 1. The timers on Excitebike do not align with the timer on the bottom left corner. 2. After Mario reaches the flagpole, the timer continues to run instead of briefly stopping to let the time bonuses add up.

Upon further review of this video; seems like only Super Mario Bros 1; is the only game that they let you play fully for a speed run. Seems like a wasted opportunity to not include that for every game. Maybe as they saving it for DLC or maybe not; but a bit dissapointing. Not even Mario bros 2 and 3?
