I am around 23 hours into the game from getting it on launch. Just unlocked all trades Abbey and changed my vocations. I am now at a part where I went back in time to a desert island. I currently have my player as a gladiator, Maribel as a sage, and Ruff as a monster masher. This game is by far one of my absolute favorite DS games now.

You know, this is not the first time, back in the 80s Nintendo gave copies of Dragon Warrior away with subscriptions to Nintendo Power, I believe it was Nintendo of America themselves who localised the first game, but by the time it got localised it already looked ancient in comparison to Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star, even with the complete overhaul they gave to the game... It's unfortunate that the series never caught on in the west like it should have, but this is the best opportunity it has had in a very long time, and we shouldn't let it pass!

just arrived at the point were select classes not really sure which ones to pick currently have my hero character a a sailor, maribel as a priest and ruff as a warrior somewhat of a annoyance that don't have all the party members by that point so could plan it out a bit easier. plus the classes descriptions i found to be rather vague

I'm really interested in the change in the Vocation system. Back in the PSX version, monster classes were kinda... pointless and filler-y because the human classes were far less of a hassle to get while giving most of the skills. All skills carried over, so... It also limits Swords Dance. Swords Dance was too strong for its own good in the PSX version, being a Warrior/Dancer hybrid making it easy to get if you knew how (there wasn't much in the way of explanation on what hybrid skills were), while here it can only be used as a Pirate, and hybrid skills are removed and instead placed in monster classes and advanced human classes. That alone balances a lot.

Classes were always one of my favorite aspects regarding the gameplay of the original Dragon Quest VII. Just trying hard and spending hours grinding to get the GodHand class and mighty Ultra hit, might sound boring, but it definitely carries something rewarding.

This time it will be less tedious . No more random fights. And some areas shortened. This improves gameplay. And allows you to mine metal slimes for EXP. also, gameplay has been changed to a chapter based system , so that chapters are in bite sized segments .

DQ7 is a standalone entry, so you'd have no problems jumping in to this one first. And DQ doesn't have ATB, just Speed stats that determine what order characters attack.

It's separate from the rest, so I don't see any problem with getting this one first. It doesn't have ATB, it's pure turn-based.

id say dont get this one first, as it has no less than a billion classes and the story is like 400 hours long. all numbered DQ games are turn based like Pokemon, where all actions are selected first, then played out based on the highest speed stat. but i highly recommend DQ4, 6, 8, and 9. 4 and 8 dont have classes, each character is fixed into their role the entire time. 6 and 9 both have classes, but far fewer than 7 does, making it very easy to know which ones are good, and which ones arent. if you like any, or all, of those, definitely try some more! DQ is one of my favorite series, right behind Final Fantasy and Zelda.

I had this way back on the playstation. The game is still somewhere near my TV. Never finished it. I'm picking this version up. In the original you could get stuck and find out there was a map piece you missed several hours back and spend hours backtracking searching for it. after finding the right tablets you have to rescue Alltrades abby in the past , only then can you change vocations, don't forget to explore the Islands in the present as more treasure can be had and you get to se the changes you made to the islands.

How does this vocation system actually work..? I rescued Alltrades Abbey in the past, changed the characters vocations first time and am currently grinding battles in that Egypt-themed desert island that opens up next in the story. I've finished far over 50 battles and my Warrior, Mage and Thief are still at 1⭐... Are my characters' levels too high or is my game buggy..?

I read that there are caps for levels in certain areas where the vocations won't Level up. Right now, I am spam attacking the weaker enemies in the Sticky Business tablet. There is no limit in there.

Guest characters do not learn vocations from what I know.

There's only one temporary party member that leaves. There's 1-2 more that come and go, but they are permanent additions and vocation progress carries over to when they come back.

This is a 3D, fully-translated and improved remake of the original DQVII for the Playstation, back in 2000. The newest Dragon Quest game was 10 but it's out only in japan and it's a MMORPG. Dragon Quest XI was already announced and confirmed too, for the next year. Nothing has been said yet whether that one will come outside of Japan, but we fans hope so.

Part of it is because DQ VII is the slowest and longest of all DQ games. The opening region was *significantly shortened* for the 3DS version. (You could easily go 2~4 *hours* before the first combat in the original.) It's even nerfed quite a bit from the original PS1 release. In PS1 any ability learned by a character is always available. In the 3DS you can only use those abilities while you are those classes. There is no reason not to rush straight for the much better advanced classes.

one difference, like it or not, dragon quest is the original . even before FF one came out. DQ7 3ds is really advanced in its gameplay and art style. but, one doesn't play DQ for battles, its about the story, and helping people along the way.

Dragon Quest 7 3DS has been completely remastered, the gameplay has changed so that you can enjoy the game if you got 1 - 2 hours for anventuring. then there is the exclusive 3DS pause feature, tired ?, or cant play ? just close the lid, the game is automatically paused, and can come back to it at anytime, a fully charged battery lasts all day. back to the game. yes, its the longest game in the Dragon Quest series, but don't let that discourage you. think of it as snippets of little stories you have to complete, in prep for winning the game, not including the bonus dungeons and side quests. you should get this game.

Hmmm I believe it's something among the lines of Final Fantasy IV, easier than the DS version though. ABSOLUTELY go for offensive and healing vocations or you'll have a harder time.

No, Its not like DQ IX. I have DQ 7 3DS. its really beautiful to see the scenery in Full 3D. I suggest buying it.
