What I love about this boss is if you pause it, the quit option is replaced with "Tough it Out!", which has the same effect as hitting "Continue". You cannot quit the final boss. Once you're in it, the only way out is to win the fight or lose all your lives trying.

One thing about Zero Two I think doesn't get talked about enough (as in, at all) is the sound design. Every other sound effect in the game is charming and cartoonish, but the sounds made by 02 when it gets hit are dull and realistic. Even the explosion sound when its wings are destroyed are a different, muffled noise from the loud and zany explosion noise present in the rest of the game.

The thing I like about it is, the music plays before Zero Squared even gets on the screen. Every other boss, INCLUDING M. Matter has the music play as they’re on the screen since they start there. With Zero however, screw you we’re throwing you straight into the core of Hell.

Does anyone else feel like when Zero Two turns to reveal the bandage/weak spot, he's crying in pain and holding his head down? I know he's supposed to be pure evil, but he doesn't really know anything else, and it seems like he's just in agony and even though he needs to be destroyed, he wants to be freed of his pain. Same thing for the spiky vine thing. If you hit him enough, it emerges, except I don't think it's under his control. When it emerges, he flails around and turns over on his backside, as the vine thing spits out what looks like poison. Zero Two isn't trying to do this; it's an instinct inhibited by the dark matter he's made of that he can't control, and fights against, like it's hurting him, which it probably is. His main attack isn't just blood either, it's crying blood. He cries. He's suffering and can't do anything about it. Even the music hints at him wanting to be free, that he's a senseless destroyer writhing in agony. A certain part of the music seems to say something along the lines of "Kirby, help me, help me" or just "help me", or even him saying please along with it. Even though he's a being of pure evil, he wants to be free. And when you defeat him, you may kill him, but you also free him. You deliver him from that suffering. You don't just save the universe. You do the one thing no one knew Zero Two ever wanted: you help him.

You partly right. Old Nintendo magazines and the Japanese game dialogue reveal a lot more about zero and star allies also. So the lore of zero as it stands is he was a being similar to void Termina but was only given pain sadness and hatred, this caused void to transform into the original Zero from dreamland 3. Kirby on the other hand is an incarnation of void that was filled with happiness joy and hope, so he became kirby. Star allies says whatever you fill void with, his next form will reflect. The void Termina in star allies is just another void who kirby ended up giving goodness to, but we don’t know exactly what’s going to happen. However text implies void Termina will turn into another creature like Kirby since in the true arena is reveals you filled him with kindness and he smiled when he exploded. You also unlock a kirby skin that looks like old school game boy Kirby by defeating Termina in the true arena. But back to Zero and Kirby. Naturally the two polar opposites attract and fight one another when Zero threatens dreamland. Zero produces his hatred and pain on the physical plane of reality in the form of dark matter that corrupts while kirby does so in the form of friendships that heals. Kirby and his allies make their way to Zero. When kirby and zero fight for the first time in dreamland three it is revealed that Zero isn’t just a negative entity, he is deathly allergic to positive emotions as well. Kirby using the love stick that shoots shards of love made Zero bleed, made his body explode, and killed him. Zero cannot feel positive emotions or he will die so he’s forced to live his sad and angry existence with no hope of ever feeling better. This is why he corrupt and destroys worlds, like shiver star as it is implied, he wants everyone to feel like he does: miserable and angry. After Kirby defeats Zero with the love stick, his eyes bursts and zero 1 dies. However, the void within him simply grows a new body and zero two is born! They aren’t the same entity entirely as confirmed by HAL but they seem to share some memories. One dialogue shown in a magazine for Kirby 64 revealing the secret zero 2 boss had zero two say “You once stood against me with love, now you do with a weapon”. Zero two seems to remember their encounter from dreamland 3! Kirby confronts zero two and eventually destroys him with the crystal shards and the power of his friendship with ribbon, leaving zero two dead or stewing in his own dimension all alone. Other than that not much is known about zero’s future, but his dark matter still floats about independently of him across the Kirby universe. For example, dark matter swordsman acts on his own accord at times, dark matter was seen in the master crown when magalor used it for evil purposes, and gooey is an enigma of dark matter that doesn’t really choose either side of the emotional spectrum. Planet robobot did show attempts to clone dark matter though. The sad part of zero two is it seems he can never be saved. He’s the entity of negativity and is forced to battle with the entity of positivity until his death. Love and friendship can’t save him, it only hurts him. Kirby can’t save him. He’s the only one kirby can’t save. I think you’re right in the money when you said zero two was crying out for help, he’s sick of and angry at his miserable existence but alas he is fated to forever walk it until his death. It seems zero is much older than Kirby (Kirby is implied to still be a prepubescent of his species) and realizes Kirby is his opposite due to dialogue, but it also seems when he turned to zero two he realized he truly cannot be saved and even Kirby will eventually be forced to kill him for the sake of the universe. Zero knows he can never smile and that infuriates him. He hates the world. That is why the tone in the zero two fight is much more sad and painful than the tense final battle with zero 1. All zero truly wants is happiness, but it can never happen and this only makes him sad/angry. I feel this is shown by the fact that when zero two emerges he has a smiling face covering his true bleeding eye face. He wants to be the happy face, but just can’t no matter what. Zero is immortal tragedy as Kirby is immortal hope

Looking back at Zero-Two, I now realize the smile that Void Soul makes in the Ultimate Choice is the same face Zero-Two makes at the beginning of its boss. Not to mention Void can turn into Dark Matter in it's boss fight, use Marx's cutter attack, use Drawcia Soul's bounce attack, and Void Termina can use the master crown except FUCKING HUGE. Not to mention it has Kirby's face. It makes you wonder if The Void Soul actually was the thing that created all of our previous bosses we've faced. Maybe it even created Kirby itself as the form of ultimate destruction, but Kirby went rogue? Maybe this is why Meta Knight wears a mask, to prevent being seen as a product of "The Essence Of Chaos".

I had never gotten this far when I first started playing Kirby at age 8. I had only beaten the boss at ripple star. 10 years later started to play this game again and I finally got all the crystals. Suddenly this epic boss came out of nowhere after beating the white comet thing. What made this battle so awsome was that I had finally beat the game after 10 years. The music added an epic feel to it. I never gave up after so long. I almost shed a tear while I was fighting this fantastic creature alongside Kirby. Also, I knew there was something more to do after that girl at the end of the game has that evil glare. lol. Love you Kirby. One of my favorite games of all time.

You know, this battle apart from being a bit creepy (more in the background), it's curious, because, when you enter the battle and put "Pause" , there are only 2 options, Continue or Tought it out! The 2 options send you back to the battle ... HE will not let you go ... or Kirby ... or Ribbon ... or even you ... have to end this battle. Español Ya sabes, esta batalla además de ser un poco espeluznante (más en el fondo), es curiosa, porque, cuando entras en la batalla y pones Pausa, solo hay 2 opciones, Continúa o Aguantarse. That's actually really terrifying the more you think about it. It's as if 02 doesn't really care about Kirby or Ribbon. It seems as if it knows what is happening and who is behind Kirby. It is possible that 02 is targeting you rather than Kirby. And he knows that you always have the upper hand by leaving the battle and tries to prevent you from that. I know that 02 is not alive lol. Even aside from the fact that final bosses in Kirby games surprisingly dark and violent, but they are usually fought inside of black holes or voids. Plus when kirby swallows his enemies he isnt killing them, he is banishing them to the black hole that is his stomach. For such cutesy colorful games kirby has some dark undertones

The 02 boss was great. The setting, the music, the design, and so on. But giving him one attack? If the game is ever remade, they should make it tougher, and add more attacks and features to the crystal shard weapon, like a charge shot or some sort of melee for a close in combat.

Instead of moving up to attack the halo, move to the side to attack the wings. Well, you do need to hit the eye to stun him to get to the wings.

Looking at these comments from years ago... I literally visited this game a couple weeks ago, and found all the shards, and managed to fight Zero 2. This was epic, and I also know Zero 2's wings are meant for something now. Easy way to combat it, though some may not know, when it's in its vulnerable cactus stage on the first go, shoot out its wings first. That way it will not be able to aim at you anymore, and fire straight the entire time from there. It will take one more time in vulnerable mode to kill it but make it a lot easier to dodge its attacks from that point.

He's so angry for losing the first time and he made it his divine angel duty to cure the universe of the overly powerful monster that's been stripping the lives of millions of harmless organisms in the kirby universe because atm it is just that. HIS universe. 02 cries crimson tears but not because the crystal sharda pierced him, if not the piercing blow of realization that he's failed God himself. It's a good song tho really catchy

I don't know why but when I fought this guy I felt so bad because 1: we are shooting his eyeball making it bleed 2: he has the bandaid on his head we keep on shooting it and then 3: after we shoot the bandaid for a while he is rendered helpless and we just shoot this thing below him 4: the guy sorta looks depressed and his eye turns a dark red after it bleeds for a while 5: If you look at one of his wings one half of it is missing after you shoot at it for a while then the other half of the wing on the other side also soon fades away 6: Sure he might have created the dark matter but just look at him and think the pain he has while doing this
