It's amazing what a bit more processing power can do for an already great game. It was good before, but pushing the Super FX chip to 150% of its original clock speed does wonders for the game's framerate!

@@knuclear200x Without reprogramming the game, I doubt it would be playable if you had it at 60fps. It would be way too fast and there would be tons of graphics glitches. @GodZpeed X7 No there still is some, but it's only at specific areas and very minor. Look at this point in the video [ at the 1:38 spot kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4jLi4aDqLegb7c ], the fps goes dips when going under the bridge. It also dips a bit in the desert stage when going through the tunnel. But over all it is very consistent and shows that the game would have really benefited from being released on the 21.4mhz superFX2 chip instead of the original 10.7mhz one.

This game was bundled with my SNES, I still have it, I was 7 years old at the time and the graphics were shockingly impressive, I didn't care about the low FPS at the time, ran it with a 20' Pal TV, had a lot of fun, these cars seemed to have some personality, it was kinda unique. The only thing I disliked was the HUD taking a bunch of the screen but it was probably due technical limitations. Too bad we never had a follow up.

I was 20 at the time this was published and also got it bundled with the SNES that I got, full disclosure, to play edgier stuff, but although I've always felt kind of disconnected from most kiddy/cartoony games even when I was a kid I found myself unexpected and surprisingly addicted to this one. Superbly designed racer, with a lot of personality and charm that reminded me of a lot of favorite stuff from my own childhood, like Hanna-Barbera's Speed Buggy, Disney's Herbie and Tatsumi/Taito's legendary Buggy Boy -and Elite's superb conversion for the C64 we had at home-. Looking back, I had a great childhood.

It could sort of fit for the N64 however the tires would look very low quality due to the fact that the N64 focused more on the “3D”. Aspect of the consult and maybe also the eyes I know most people think it would be better but it might have a small amount of FPS issues like with Mario kart 64 wait how do you study space for the go carts considering 99% the tracks were rendered using 3-D polygons I know I might go off topic but Lego racers did have some family issues because the cars did use 3-D elements so ethics might work with a port but I don’t know it depends

@mattsephton
@mattsephton 5 жыл бұрын
Thuthumerdinha what evidence do you have to back up the claim that a register can change the MHz? sources from Wikipedia state that all FX1 games ran at a hardware-half-clocked ~10MHz (of which this game is one) and all FX2 games ran at hardware-full-clocked 21MHz. This video shows gameplay after overclocking the SuperFX chip through either emulation or hardware mod.

The overclocking really trivializes this game's difficulty. Comparing your non-overclocked video to this one, you were able to do TWO LAPS on the novice class bonus stage when overclocked, yet not a single lap on the standard version. You also get a head start in the stunt trax on the overclocked version, getting pushed out of the starting stable well before the "go" signal.

But I guess this kind of stuff should be relegated to emulators and PC, I am sorry for my lack of information but I guess that if you are not careful overclocking hardware you can damage/burn it, right? I prefer the game overclocked, but not by this much. I can't remember what I set it for on my SNES Classic. Even so, I still enjoy the way the original cart runs

This game would be better with 32-bit graphics and more FPS as it could have been released for the N64 instead.

Stunt Race FX runs on the SuperFX 2 and not 1, doesn't it? So it'd be more like 32MHz or so

See, this is what Hard Drivin' could've been on the SNES if they did it right!

Hard Drivin was an absolute disgrace on the SNES lol. It was like they said, "Well, we nearly got it to 5fps. Let's grab a beer now." And then they left it that way, submitted the master for production, said "Meh, it works. Who gives a shit?" And then got more beer and promptly forgot about the game forever after.

NintendoComplete Yeah they could’ve used Mode 7 to render the ground at least

the main difficulty of the game was only because of the slow slow chip it had. i imagine its a much easier game when it actually runs well.

If this really does get added to the online, I hope they overclock it. But I highly doubt they will.
