Darkstalkers was a complete revelation when it was first released. With its insanely detailed 2D sprite work and animation, a massive dose of imagination, and a well-tuned combo system - it turned a lot of heads in mid-1994.

Yup, Darkstalker's revenge were my first Saturn game and meeeeeen, so AWESOME and the best part now, IT'S FREE ON PS3 THIS MONTH WITH PS+!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was kinda weird that this port released in 96 because back then we already got darkstalkers revenge, so it’s a bit strange why they ported this instead of darkstalkers revenge, but i like this port though, no doubt about that!

DarkStalkers Revenge was exclusive to Sega Saturn. They were planning to do a release of Darkstalkers Revenge but they cancelled it.

I find it kind of surprising it isn’t on the Sega Saturn considering it’s excellent reputation for fighting games.

Interesting. Back in those older Capcom days rewarding players for not using a continue. In the Japanese version you trigger the Rain song. It was awesome.

With fighting collections coming to current gen. I did once said "Here obviously pure awesome imagination. You can attempt recreate Darkstalkers: The Night Warrior OST into SNES arrangement format. Mostly PS1 home port specially JP exclusive ending *Rain* tracks."

I have this for my ps1. I noticed that the colors are more saturated then the cps2 version. Some missing animation in a few stages and loading times. However, unlike the CPS2 the ps1 uses true transparency effects. You will notice them in Victor, Felicia's and Lord Raptor's stage. It's hard to do that midnight pleasure move for Dimitri on the ps1 controller.

Lets see, got this one on PS3 PSN, US version, Darkstalkers 3 PSN (PS1 version of course) Japanese PS1 version (disc is flawless, but music won't play in my PS2, nor 2 different PS1 emulators), Vampire Hunter on Saturn, Vampire Savior on Saturn, Vampire Savior EX PS1 basically what we got as Darkstalkers 3 on the PS1 here in the US, and the much coveted by myself, Vampire Darkstalkers Collection on the PS2 (Japan release only). I'd say I have this series covered, other than the PSP port, which was basically the Dreamcast version squeezed onto a PSP UMD.

Pretty cool series to get into, IMO Capcom's best fighting game series, with tons of sweet animation with each and every character. The PS2 collection is so damned nice to have, 5 games in 1, all pretty sweet to play.
