@rndmgy It does. The bullets as seen in this video are MUCH slower than they would be if I weren't constantly retrying the boss and driving down the rank as a result. All Touhou games before Imperishable Night have some degree of a rank system, though PCB's is almost unnoticeable.

Highly Responsive to Prayers isn't all that bad once you take the time to learn how it works. Learn the trajectory the slide kick sends the ball, learn to use the ofuda to fend off bullets instead of the gohei (the amulets instead of the stick), and learn how to score extra lives from bombs, and the game gets much easier.

Perfection would be a lot less frustrating if it were as easy to retry as this in every other game. Here, you mess up, you just run into the ball twice and start over.

1. Open the emulator and click on the config menu. 2. Find the "Video" tab and open it. 3. Under "Update Strategy" in the upper left, click on "Sync" instead of "Async." 4. Change the value of "Sync" to 1. This should drastically improve the framerate of the emulator.

Think about it. In this game, there are a few unused stages, right? What if they were supposed to be an Extra, with Sariel's second phase originally intended to be the Extra boss?

How the hell did you get HRtP to work so smoothly? On the anex86 emulator, it runs fine, but it still skips some frames. HOW DO.

Very cool, i wasn't able to beat after more than a full hour of trying, i managed to get to phase 2 once, i really tried. I don't really like how some atacks can just go into a blind spot, or how the ball randomly attains super speed and bounces across the screen at sound speed and hits you without being able to reflect it. Also having 3 hits of life is a bit rough, since i have no idea how to get extra lifes with the bombs, i wish i could obtain the endings by my self but i had to just watch them in youtube.

Also i can't seem to find any kind of save state in the neko emulator soo i have to replay the entire game if i want to rest.

I can't help you with Neko since I use Anex86, but the big trick to the scoring system is that how much hitting a card is worth goes up the more cards you hit without the yin-yang orb touching the ground. The reason bombs can get you so many lives is that they can remove large amounts of cards at once while the orb is in the air. So the basics to getting the most out of them is to build up the combo multiplier and then launch a bomb in a position where the orb will stay off the ground for the duration of the bomb. If done well and on the right stage you can easily get one or even two 1UPs with a well-placed bomb. Hope this helps you on your journey.

I saw short snippits of this game before, but never a long enough clip to understand how it all went together. It calls into question why ZUN ever changed it. Reimu's gohei, ofudas, and yin-yang orb all bring something to the table. It does bother me how in modern touhou games you just hold down the fire button because there's no downside to doing so. I guess it means the player only has to think about dodging, meaning crazier patterns.

Agreed, I like that in TH2 Lunatic upon death the enemies send out bullets just like the cards in this game, making it so that you can have an easier time in certain portions if you select which enemies to shoot down

@metakiluku I suppose it's more habit than anything. By creating a constant stream of bullets, I guarantee the orb will get hit when it passes by, but it's also just to give me something to do. :V

Wow.. very nice.. I just got the game yesterday, and today tried to beat this on lunatic and gave up after 7 hours lmfao.. A couple times I was soo close to beating sar.. >_> how do you do it XD

this fight is way, WAY more bs if you do it on max rank using gohei in most places just isn't an option because you literally get shot in gohei's downtime cancelling bullets with ofuda is, while at few parts useful, mostly ain't gonna cut it either, again, because of how fast the stuff changes it's position it took me 7 hours to NN her on max rank and it was with static rng seed because of the savestate
