If you're really looking for a way to turn these scavenger hunts into a multiplayer game/competition, you could probably do a bingo format. You could have more than just two people playing at once if desired, and it would add more strategy to choosing which item you decide to take from each island. (Also, I'm with you on the Elf issue)

If you did Scavenger Hunts competitively ... would you: A: See who could get all of the items first, first to all ten wins, or ... B: Every time someone gets an item, they "win" the item and both people scratch it off their list. Whoever "wins" the most items at the end, wins.
