The base stat is an intrinsic value of the Pokemon that determines what the displayed stat number in game will be. Anything that affects stats changes that number directly. So for example, Azumarill has base 50 attack with Huge Power. This ability does not make it so that its base attack becomes 100. Instead, Azu's actual 218 attack as displayed in-game (assuming Adamant 252 ATK at level 100) will become 436, which is equivalent to base 149 attack. The same principle applies to a Choice Band. If Lopunny has a base attack of 106, it will hit an in-game stat of 342 (again assuming max attack at level 100 for ease of analysis, the math scales down with level). With a band it hits 513, which would be equivalent to a raw base attack of 184, not 159. That's 1 point less than Mega Heracross and would place it at the third highest base attack of any Pokemon. So that Lopunny was actually quite a bit stronger than Ant makes it out to be, and it's actually more immediately threatening than its own Mega because Mega Lop can't hold a band.

I know nobody will see this, but I have a challenge. Professor Oak's challenge, is a challenge where you get *all* available pokemon, before progressing in the story/gyms. My challenge, is a challenge in SMO where you collect all available Moons, Purple Coins, and checkpoints, *before* moving to the next kingdom. Glitches are iffy, so, while not necessary, if you want to CRC to get a couple more things before the next kingdom, I wouldn't consider that wrong. Extra annoying, if you wish, could be to get all available Costumes before progressing.
