That's the difference between a KO and a TKO: a regular KO is when the opponent is unable to get up before the count of ten, a TKO (technical knockout, not TOTAL knockout as most people think) is decided when the referee, manager, ringside doctor, etc. determine that the opponent is unable to continue.

I like that Mr. Sandman isn’t necessarily a villain but he pulls looking intimidating off that makes him look like a scary game villain, and his “put you to bed” thing makes it much better and more intimidating, the fact that you can also hear your bones break as he hits you makes it look like he can kill you *even if he didn’t try to.* EDIT: Ignore the thing above, instead focus on this edit since it is cleaner. Earlier opponents had unique sound queues (Not counting voice lines) and movements before throwing their punches, not Sandman. He's a clean boxer. Not to mention, you can literally hear your bones break after every punch is landed on you. And once you knock him down, there's this bassy sound that plays as he's trying desperately to just walk off the punch before inevitably falling down. If you listen closely, you can hear a little music box that plays right as he falls! That means you put this guy to sleep instead. While he's taunting he literally acts like he lets his guard down, until you go in for a punch: he quickly dodges it, unless you manage to hit him on his "Boo!" On his knockout, as he falls over on his head first, it sounds like metal, screaming "THAT'S HOW TOUGH HE IS, MAC BABY!" in your face.

it's a total crime that they omitted Mario as a refereee. The game feels too americanized, character designs are hit and miss. Plays great though! and title defense was just awesome. But there's something missing from the presentation that i can't put my finger on, and the soundtrack was kind of iffy...Plus, the boxing rings are usually dismal and lifeless. I think Super Punch-out!! has aged much better in the visual department.

Not gonna lie, Mr. Sandman has my favorite intro in Contender Mode.
