I am wondering why you give up Tesla X 100D to get NIO? Only for better interior and NVH control? General speaking, 100D still have much better energy consumption. The quality upgrading is much better than their very early ES8. The 1st Gen ES8 for some of the early owners were headache.

Battery swap is just another option besides super charging. It's very popular in China. Moreover, the battery can be upgraded easily and the user need not worry about the quality of battery.

I believe many “issues” you have mentioned were already “fixed/improved” in the Chinese version. For example, you can continuously talk to NOMI without waking it up for each command. And for the trips info, I think you are able to find them on the app, at least the Chinese version. so, guess for the English version, it will be improved over time.

You may watch the whole Honkong thing and maybe think twice 🤷‍♂️ … at the and I buy many devices and products from china and be happy with it. When it comes to cars and engineering, I better invest in my own country. 😊 But my field of view is strongly infused with Volkswagen and that company. 😄

The issues you have seem to be all linked to things which are controlled by software. It would not surprise me if Nio have not watched your videos and taken on board what you have observed and will do a software update.

these software issues are fundamentally hardware issues because the car first launched in 2018 so first started developement in 2015 ish. The AD driving chip for example has computation power of 2.5 Tops (or 3.5 can't remember). It was the most advanced back then but kinda outdated now.

NIO cars with battery swap will be the deciding factor that makes it better than the rest. Battery technology is advancing fast, so in the year say 2030, a second hand NIO with swappable batteries will be worth a lot more than a Tesla made around the same time.

Charging power can be found using the app. You aren't supposed to use the car without it, that's why some things might look like missing, because most Chinese consumers will get it from there, not the car itself

Great video thanks! I think with some software solutions it will be a great car.. battery swap is best thing always the latest model battery. If tesla is out of factory warranty its not so wanted is it. But Nio is less of risk to buy not everybody got the money for a new EV.

Bjorn Nyland, unfortunately you're wrong about the battery swap. Each user can swap, bad batteries are removed from the system. Each battery is going through the maintenance. There is less degradation just because batteries are charged slower. As an user you get free swaps. During the holiday session in China, there were massive queues to the fast charging stations, people had to wait for hours. NIOs swap stations were empty. I think it is a well thought concept for the market in the future when majority of cars will be EVs.

Not having to wait for a full charge is always an advantage but if you can wait then it’s definitely fine. It’s like you are about to go out but the phone battery is low, you definitely anxious to get it charged ASAP.

@@anvoong2510 It depends...even with ICE I do 90-120mins cumulated breaks while doing 1k kms. With 200kW+ chargers makes no difference for me. I had model 3P and the car wa actualy waiting for me so swap would be irrelevant and even hassle.

No it wouldn't. Battery swapping will never become mainstream and there is barely any battery swap stations in Norway, nor customers using it. As for the "speed advantage" it depends heavily on how many customers are going to use it throughout the day. You will get more total charging throughput for the same amount of money by just installing regular fast dc chargers instead. But NIO seems hellbent on wasting money and resources on this technology.

Regarding battery swapping. Let's remember that it's in addition to being able to charge / super charge. I've been watching a number of your Nio videos and so much of your time is spent charging! Long cables, slow charging, fast charging, charging issue......just charging period. Did I mentioned charging!? I never owned an EV but I gotta tell you, all this charging turns me off. Swap me a new battery and I'll be good to go!

Hi Nyland, I watch your NIO videos to learn about the car and learn much. You made some excellent observation of ES8 on your roadtrip. I strongly recommend that you send a copy of your video to NIO Corporation so that they can improve their software. Without valuable driver feedback like yours NIO would not know there are some shortcomings, including different preferences between Chinese n European drivers. In terms of too many audio feedback from NIO, I too don't like to be bother or distracted by the machine and I'm Chinese. Those audio feedback becomes information overload for the driver, souring the pleasure of driving. This, I think, applies to any driver/pilot, irrespective of ethnicity or culture, ie applies to both Chinese and Europeans. Again, please sent the link of your video to NIO, it is an excellent feedback.

Seems like a lot of car for the money. It should not be a major issue to update and fix issues with the software. At least if the makers are open to constructive criticism. A good thing is that warning sounds. It sounds like the sound from the ice cream truck. If it can play the “Norge rundt “ jingle you can use it to deliver ice cream.

there are lots of things that I want to share with you guys as an ES6(smaller ES8) owner/Nio's graduate program candidate personally, I don't recommend anyone to buy this ES8 in this and the coming year, reasons: 1. the console is powered by an Nvidia x1 chip, if you don't know that, it is the same chip that is inside the Nintendo switch, it is very slow in 2021, and NIO's software, the NIO OS aspen is running not natively on hardware but it is a customized Android running on the virtual layer, this means the console might be very laggy in few years, and the bad chip caused nomi acting like an idiot. The good thing is in near future they will install a new Qualcomm 8155 chip inside the car, and with 5G compatibility, the even better thing is they will provide an upgrade program to upgrade the current car's chip to the 8155(for a price) So why don't you wait for they install the 8155 chip in a factory then buy the car? 2. the seat is not very friendly to people who is a little bit short, no offence, I think they just use white adult's data to design those seats. the seats cause back pain to my 160cm tall mother, but my 175 dad seems fine. in china, they offer a service to put extra Stuffing inside the seat to make it softer, I'm not sure when/will it become available in Europe. 3. The voice recognition seems very bad in Norway, I'm pretty sure they will work closely with the local(English, other language recognition) service provider to solve this issue, I mean it is very impolite to make customers speak English instead of their own language. the voice recognition problem will be solved, and it will take time (in a year or more) 4. some people claimed that the 360 camera has too much distortion on the side, which makes them cannot see the obstacle properly. they said they will solve this problem in near future, but it seems to need newer hardware(camera on the side) to solve this issue, also, the same situation with the build-in dash camera, the resolution rate is so bad that you cannot clearly see whats the plate of the car in front of yours, this part will need new hardware for sure. so even they offer services to change it later, I think the better choice is to wait until they solve the problem in their factory. Lastly, Nio defiantly want to solve the software issues, they hired lots of experience software devs and tons of graduates in their console/nomi software team, and they hire experienced autonomous driving related engineers such as people working on Lidars, algorithms etc. overall I think the future for the company and its product is bright, but the better idea is to wait, at least for this year.

Very useful video, didn't feel like 1 hour long. Regarding the battery swap or battery lease, one big advantage (besides lower initial cost for the car) is the resale value. You should be able to sell it on the used car market for a better price than an EV with a beaten down battery that might cost you 10k to replace. Also, you can buy a Nio with 75kwh battery but temporarily swap in a 100kwh (or 150kwh in the future) only when you take long trips.

I read the es8 can tow 1500kg. My boat weighs almost 1400kg with engine trailer and full tank of gas. So yes the car can tow. But how is it on a boat ramp? Is it going to its limit or will it pull easily. I had a van before that could tow 2000kg. But was struggling to get boat off the ramp. So im really curious how that goes with less tow capacity but more power on a ev.

I really feel Nio has a great product here, it’s just ashamed that it’s a little thirsty 😜 Nio is really the only Chinese car maker trying to position themselves as a international brand, when you look at Xpeng, BYD, Hongqi, they’ve already failed in a sense that everyone knows they’re Chinese. I’m not saying being Chinese is a bad thing, in fact I am Chinese too, but not china chinese. If you know smartphone stuff, Nio is the equivalent to OnePlus, where although their chinese, they try to position themselves as international. Xiaomi, Vivo, Huawei did not even try. I believe the ET7 will be a great car and I hope it will come to Norway soon after it’s launched. I expect the ET7 to be more efficient (mainly because of aerodynamics) but still feel like it would be quite thirsty (because of all the new LiDAR sensors). Saw photos of the first battery swap station in Oslo almost completed today, let’s see you do the 1000km challenge with battery swap, should be quite an interesting video 😁

@@yourcrazybear Some areas are so packed with buildings and whatnot that it is not that easy. Yes there are gas stations but let's say there are 10 gas stations in a neighborhood that has 300 thousand people. Not sure if this will be enough.

@@danielpenov No. That number is way to small. I know of an urban area with 3000 residents where there are 3 gas stations. Another urban area with 130 000 residents that have 30 gas stations and so on. There is usually enough gas stations to meet the demand of fuel. But like I said, it will not only be gas stations that will build chargers. They are being placed at gas stations, at malls, at fast food places, in connection to highways, apartment buildings, parking garages, etc. And many people will mostly charge their cars at home to cover their daily driving as well, reducing the number of people visiting the public charging networks. And if you only drive within big cities you don't have to charge very often at public chargers anyway. Electric cars are very efficient at that kind of driving scenario (efficient drivetrain, low wind drag, regeneration, almost no power consumption when standing still, etc).

I think the sound is important because it warns you that it’s going to make a move so you won’t be hit by surprise but it is annoying. NIO should change it to more pleasant digital sound and make it customizable.

Thanks for sharing the “yellow peril” mentality in the west. In China, people can choose level of merchandises. If you have little money, there are cheap bottles of water. Nomi asking Bjorn, option 1 or 2? Bjorn selects 4 then proceeds to say nomi is not working properly. Also, I think nomi is not responding too well to Bjorn's instructions is because of his accent. I'm, as viewer, is also having a hard time understanding Bjorn's accent sometimes. Was Bjorn asking nomi, cancel or console earlier? Don't get me wrong, obviously, nio has alot of ways to go especially in software development but to blame everything on nio is just not fair.
