Marcel I would think mega packs like tesla is selling this would make a larger dent in making more money and much lower cost with lithium and perhaps salt they should use latest large battery contents that catl is working with?? Or someone more cutting edge??

but it only serves 1 purpose and can't be used to swap cars at the same time, therefore revenue streams are less diversified and it would have less value for the community. Also Megapacks are for large scale industry applications. Thats not needed for small communities.

MARCEL* i watched a video with Electric viking about CATLs new batteries. If different battery types are better in colder then warmer and vice versa. You would need to consider the climate you live in before buying the car.. wouldn't you say NIO can solve this issue easiest with battery swap. I mean you could change the battery to suit climate in the future or have winter / summer batteries in Northern & southern hemisphere as we do winter/ summer tyres?

Absolutely, NIO has winter optimised battery packs (ternary 75 kWh pack) that has a different chemistry to have more accurate battery drainage and better efficiency during winter. Users can use this during winter like winter tyres.

@@marsdam This is for getting a battery for your vehicle per month. As the post states. So instead of buying, you're renting it for that price per month. It's very cheap considering the cost of vehicle and battery repair costs currently.

Question for all, Should NIO Power leverage this position and build some "non Swap" stations? Much lower capex Sell energy at high profit with the Nio Charges to non Nio users (80% of users) Use "old" battery packs and keep "fresh" packs for car use. Extend the lifespan of the battery, add value to BASS model

That doesn’t create the same synergy effects of also being able to swap and generate swapping revenues ontop. Also just the grid balancing use case alone might not be worth it to build for small communities.

Tesla Megapacks are not as flexible though as they can only balance the grid and not offer swapping and an integrated ecosystem. NIO swap stations make higher use and have more differentiated revenue potential. Hence communities should own one.

Mega packs literally can support a swap stations, DCFC, and the community with a purpose built system. I’m more and more convinced Nio is inventing reason to prop up swap which is following its predicted lifecycle by skeptics

Sure swap stations can function as a mega pack but you are repurposing automotive batteries for this. I’m ok with auto 2 grid ist someone chooses to use their car that way but I’m not convinced that this use case will be effective with cost or replenishment long term.

I heard that nio was selling power back to the grids where is the revenue for the battery swap stations and the power that is being sold back to the Chinese grids I haven't heard anything about revenue the battery swap stations are making and most of our cash burn is going to build battery swap stations where is the revenue

I dont see how are they going to provide power to the grid when energy is expensive when they have to charge batteries and swap them all the day when cars arrive. I dont see what energy are they going to store and sell. I dont think this must be a great benefit of swap stations.

Its already being implemented. So it is not a question whether this can be done but how to scale this quick and big. This is where I think crowd funding could play a role too to make adoption even for small communities possible.
