Nioh vs Nioh 2 Gameplay Style Comparison

Showing how style and combo looks like between Nioh 1 and Nioh 2.
From what I have experienced so far, playing in Nioh 1 style vs a yokai boss is more difficult to bring their maximum ki bar to zero. I do not deal enough max ki dmg with only weapon skill (including purity & corruption effect). Its pretty much how Nioh used to be back then.
In Nioh 2 style, Yokai skill, burst counter & items help a lot to bring their maximum ki down. Along with items cancel, there is more combo opportunity to make, and these combo gets more flashy. (with many "assist")

Well we gotta remember that nioh 1 is about Williams and how he fight and using living weapon and in nioh 2 Hide (our character) is a half yokai who can use soul core and yokai shift.

I'm leaning towards a mixture of the two. I think the soul cores can be used for some really cool combos and finishers, but leaning away from using a lot of burst counters in boss fights. The burst counters can break up the flow of a fight for me and are just too easy to land (most of the time).

Yea, burst counter shouldnt be the main part of a boss fight. Dodging by yourself is still better than just using feral dodge or extending combo with brute.

@@LasttoLoad I know this is like years ago but I always had it in mind that what would've been great ( and what I feel is missing) is that identity of combos built in. Yokai felt separate to the point that the canceling is our way of making it work rather than just neat to me - if the yokai form instead was built into our combos like some ninja gaiden/demon form shit it would've made the game even crazier but more fun to me. (Some of the bosses already give off this vibe in nioh 2 so I know it can work) Plus, dark realm would've had more use then too with our "demon combos" gaining more power and trading hits (like brute) against bosses or something idk

A true gamer. The first time I played nioh 1 I thought everything was about being high level and over powered. But the game was no fun, when I started doing combos and mostly weapons only the game went up by so many levels. Brilliant game

@@jonathansailsman on way of the Nioh, there is no "overpowered" lol. You've got to be really good to survive on that difficulty, no matter what level you or your gear is. Nioh 2 is more balanced, but it's too easy. I'm hoping the new difficulties make it so you can't just level up, make a strong build, and you destroy everything. It's nice to have to play carefully and strategically, knowing you can be one shot by any enemy, no matter how strong you are. Both are great games though. Can't wait to play the dlc when it finally downloads! Cheers

This is on point.. nioh 1 really has alot of stance switching.. nioh 2 is more technical with the cancels with the yokai ability and guardian spirit activation.. the flash attack is more on nioh 1 style, since u can do non stop combo in nioh 2 even with 1 weapon, because of the yokai ability for the fillers, really good vid man.. one of the best game play.. i love both mechanics, but i will pick nioh 2, for more diversity.

some of moves of same Yokai in Nioh 1, it faster and hitbox more dangerous, but in Nioh 2, it change to system that allow you parry it by Shift skills, more slower, easy to react and you have a lot of tool in Nioh to counter it, and in Nioh, it's like impossible, you just can dodge it

Never played nioh but love souls and considering nioh, but I need some insight because superficially, it looks very hack-n-slashy even though I can see there’s a stamina bar. Does it feel and play that way too? Or is there a lot more going? Edit: Also, when it comes to nioh 1 vs 2, are there any rehashed bosses when going to the second one? Should I just play the second one then, if it’s just the gameplay I care about and not the story? I’m sure this question has been asked to death, I’m just kinda late to the nioh party

There are a lot of things going in this gameplay which it is not considered beginner friendly. This example is done at high level experience that can not be easily replicated. Everyone who started Nioh for the first time will be playing traditionally like souls game in the beginning (you hit an enemy and stand back to recover your stamina). As you gain more experience with the technical aspect of the gameplay, you will start playing like in this video. Nioh does require a bit of your time to play like a hack n' slash game, but there are lots of guides around that can help you play at fair level of gameplay. Of course, you can still beat the game in a souls way, but you are not getting a nioh experience that this game is known for: action gameplay. Nioh series used to be a little rehashed but, with newer updates, there are lots of new mobs, enemies get new attack move at higher NG+ and dlc bosses. its ok to play the second one first. Even though playing the first one would be ideal for the story. playing in different order can give some unique experience.

@@zerothehero.takeasip6612 your dash depends on your stance, however if your weapon is sheathed, you will do dash + roll. so his current stance is low meaning he is dashing without rolling. mid is dash + roll and high is rolling only

I played Nioh 1 and never got past the first area when I had it with PS+ then I went on to beat bloodborne 3 times. Definitely got to give this game another try

Honestly I struggled so much in Nioh 2 because I was playing it like Nioh 1. Learning to chain your yokai attacks with your weapon arts made combat that much faster. I hate burst counters as the game essentially tells you to stop your strategy and press this button or you die..oh? what's that? Your out of Anima you say? Tough

why would people dislike this video? both videos take place in Nioh 2 but what Last2Load is showing is the gameplay style differences No burst counters and yokai abilities in Nioh 1 Last2Load has the best Advanced gameplay guide video there is for nioh 2. Everyone should watch it, I would of never figured out how to Ki pulse properly using the passive "flux 2 skill". There is so much the game does not tell you. Once I learned how to use Flux 2 properly the game got much more enjoyable/playable now add in sheath cancels for Quickdraw attacks and animation cancels using yokai abilities. Nothing better then throwing out some ninja feathers instantly followed by a ippon-drata yokai ability for insane damage. The combat mechanics in nioh 2 are awesome and they are the main reason I keep playing. *I found Nioh 2 to be much easier/funner because of the burst counters and yokai abilities*

there is only but a few attacks on each weapon that allows you to do item cancels like evasion attack with katana or spear. you use an item at the end of their attack animation, and press ki pulse right after you finish casting an item. I will be making a vid about it very shortly.

Because I wanted to see the comparison on how much we can put the boss into full red ki bar if played in Nioh 1 style. As a result, it is almost impossible to put them into free grapple than in Nioh 2 play style. In Nioh 2 game play, the ki dmg from yokai skill, burst counter and items does change the meta how Nioh game play work.

Don't know if this was intentional or not, but I feel like the comparison is misleading considering that you didn't use ninjitsu (like bombs) at all in the Nioh 1 playstyle but used them in the Nioh 2 playstyle. It seemed to imply that you couldn't use them in Nioh 1, as if Nioh 1 was just purely attacking and dodging.

I used items in nioh 2 because there is a recent trick to cancel item end casting time with ki pulse (which allows you to perform different action right away). We even have different option like burst counter and yokai ability to do that as well. If I tried using item in Nioh 1 (which its not possible to cancel for some reason), it will slow down the action a bit.

Again, it's a fair point to make. Items shouldn't be used despite being able to cancel it, and focus on raw skill play than items consumption that can be used only once (unless I get myself an infinite item build)

What i'd remove form Nioh 2's gameplay is Burst Counters and yokai having that weird Max Ki reduction, makes them too easy. Burst Counters could be balanced if they didn't interrupt animations, costed more to do and had a smaller window.

while there are some problems with burst counters, by the later half of the game said burst counters especially on late game enemies tend to be put into attacks that are generally easy to dodge away from like the enki belly flop or as a learning mechanisism for some bosses since bosses like naotaka has their big 7 hit dual odachis combo turned into a burst attack first playthrough which becomes a normal attack and his grab which was pretty easy to dodge becomes a burst attack so you have to face it head on, some enemies have basically no recovery from being burst countered too like otakemaru dlc3, it's mostly a balancing act really

nioh 2 new additional mechanics are not bad they are alot of fun. but in some parts of the game they are implemented in a bad way. i literally fought the giant castle boss hours trying to feral phantom counter his hand in my first run. some boss battles force you to play in a certain way. another thing bother me in nioh 2 is human bosses. first their ki is very low, you can put them in ki break loop simply doing same attack over and over, to compansate that they gave them fast getup and counter moves which made slow weapons like axe very unreliable. some human bosses literally stands up while cloud crash cinematic animation is still going on and hit you as soon as animation is over and you are vulnurable. nioh 1 had very reliable physics to its combat, nioh 2 is like good ideas bad implementation.

Yeah, It's more deliberate. It takes more planning. I played only with A agility, so mobility was easy; but 1-2 hits and you're dead. You can't just power level, make a strong build, and destroy everything.... Like the first 3 difficulties of nioh 1. I'm hoping when we get to dream of the wise, and dream of the Nioh, that Nioh 2 gives some better challenge though; like nioh 1 did at the endgame. 2 is definitely better, smoother combat; but I like the systems and the challenge in the first nioh's endgame. Though they took it too far on the dlc and multi boss missions on upper difficulties... Dlc for nioh 2 is going to be EPIC though!

it would not work because their health and ki bar is vastly different from Nioh 1 to Nioh 2. Using Nioh playstyle to Nioh 2 shows that it is nerfed, and Nioh 2 encourages you to use yokai skill and item to fully take advantage of the gameplay because of its higher dmg and ki dmg.

I'd prefer Nioh 2 style without the ninjutsu/onmyo talismans. Using yokai abilities, I think getting max ki to zero is in a fair spot! Talismans make it a little too easy, and aesthetically it's less impressive for me. It's flashy, but not as satisfying for me.

It is impressive how consistently you can do the item cancel, maybe I didn't practice enough but the timing feels so tight, but for watching I prefer just being able to focus on your weapon play. Burst counter is OP when used to cancel moves (like kannagi for everything) but still ok since it has a resource meter that competes with yokai abilities

Yea, I feel like using weapon skill and yokai skill should be my main focus. items are just consumable, and can only be used once (unless I make an infinite build for those ninjutsu and omnyo). There are very few attack that allows you to easily item cancel (and hatchet can do it very well for that canceling). I will be showing which attack can be done in a vid guide shortly.

Last to Load i run flying kato 4 pcs with yakasani. 15% untouched ninjutsu and from armor pieces each like 5% more. 6 feathers last most of the time untill next shrine.

Nioh 2 is still sort of incomplete. We still have DLC in the future with new weapons and such, Nioh 2 will almost certainly be better than Nioh 1 by the time it's done.

@@Zoran69 The third and final DLC will be released on December 17, 2020. Thus, Nioh 1 is complete while Nioh 2 is incomplete. It's only fair/accurate to compare them when they're both complete.

@@lax4352 oh ok, makes sense. I thought you meant Nioh 2 (even with final DLC) is incomplete in terms of quality or something compared to Nioh 1 which could be due to Covid. What I do know is, people are saying Nioh 2 is kinda dumbed down in terms of difficulty because of burst counter, where the gameplay is now centered around the new 'mechanic' making the game/fights easier compared to Nioh 1. I'll have to see for myself but I'm excited regardless 😊

I understand the comparison that the creator is trying to justify but unless you are actually playing Nioh1, it is not a fair comparison because the battle system in 2 is a bit more fuild than in 1, just setting the charter up gear wise as if in the old one isn't the same as actually playing the old one.
