The JGSDF is a fine army. I trained with them several times in the 90s. Tough field soldiers and very technically proficient.

How would you say the JGSDF would fare against the PLA without direct American support from your experience?

@@Cotac_Rastic The problem with that comparison is the sheer size of the PLA. On a head-to-head, toe-to-toe basis, the JGSDF is superior to the PLA soldiers I have personally observed and which can be studied in military history. But the PLA would overwhelm the JGSDF in any long-term conflict. One place the JSDF can match the PLA right now is on the water. The Japanese Maritime force is high-quality as befits a first-world island nation. But even there, the PLA can make up for their weakness with asymmetric weapons. By that I mean, who needs a good Navy to defeat the Japanese Navy when you possess tens of thousands of anti-ship missiles to give you the strategic edge?

@@Cotac_Rastic I'd imagine JSDF wouldn't fight PLA alone. Even without US involvement, Xi has made so many enemies in its neighbourhood whom Japan can ally with.

GATE anime isn't enough for drawing more recruits. The problem is incentives and benefits. And the wages. Furthermore, Japan has a NEET problem ever since the bubble bursted 3 decades ago. Google what that acronym means.

At nippon, everyone wears kimonos and eats sushi every day. At home, there is a Japanese sword on the kamidana (Shinto altar), and on weekends, people practice bare fencing in the family yard, wearing hachimaki with "SINKOKU JAPAN" written on it. On holidays, they spend time in the Tennno heika banzaiTennno heika banzair" and banzai sansho.
