To the uploader, thank you for this. We thought this was lost forever. I nearly had a fight with somebody over this interview. I am a friend of Donnie's and I run his channel. This is very good! Thank you for this.

Can't believe how good the quality is for 83. Both audio n picture are crystal clear. looks like its off studio master rather than someones old VCR tape

depravity gets a giggle from Jonathan 1:50 The word Cale is searching for regarding Jonathan is not anemic, its HONEST

Cale only produced their first album but it is a classic...

And Cale wrote his best songs without Reed around. I love both of them. Only 2.5-3 years together, though. Of course quality things were to come after VU from such great talents as long as drugs/alcohol didn't get in the way.

cale produced the warner brothers demos in 72 that were released by matthew king kaufman on beserkley in 1976.kim fowley also recorded demos of the same material later in 72 for a&m.those demos were released in 1981 as the original modern lovers.

Sure, I think these two interviews are up their with the best Donnie achieved, strange that they disappeared. Glad this stopped a fight! Say hello to Donnie for me :-)

@kristoscan11 жыл бұрын
kinda of tru. cale did most from demos in LA for WB records. then robert appere and alan mason of A&M did demos. it was fight btween record companies. richman changed sound quickly after the death of friend gram parsons(!) fowley stepped in twice and first as organizer and then as producer. dinky dawson produced some sessions with fowley organizing. the thing was cobbled by beserkley years later very strange story.

No I don't, I was only interested in recording the Cale and Richman interviews. I recall the other guys being on the show and how odd an inclusion Vince Sorrenti was in that lineup..

Hello! Thank you! Exactly what I was thinking. Who wants to hear more of the same John Cale bitterness, that BS about the VU not living up to its promise? He never understood - for a man like Lou Reed, a band is a vehicle for songs. Not Cale's antisocial tendencies, not experiments - SONGS! And Lou Reed wrote his best songs without Cale around. I came here to see what the young Jonathan Richman had to say, or what Cale might say *about* the Modern Lovers! But thank you for posting it, nirta26!

Where did you get this After Dark footage? Unreal stuff! What a great show-the show with Iggy Pop and his Asian Lady Boy friend was awesome!
@welovedonnie12 жыл бұрын
I will.. the 'fight' was nothing serious... do you have the rest of the show, including the Jello Biafra interview? I know there was a segment where comedian Vince Sorrenti is racing through his routine, to the amusement of John Cale, Jonathan Richmond, Jello Biafra... It was interesting seeing their reaction to that style of comedy.
