Big long now is probably my favorite nirvana song. A real shame there's no high quality recording of this song live...

It's a shame that there aren't any bootlegs available where they played Big Long Now. According to Nirvanalive dot com, that song was played only twice in the band's lifetime (apart from the Krist's house rehearsal). Awesome you were there to experience it! Greetings from Mexico, amigo.

I remember being a little bummed and talking to them about it. Why didn't they put it on the album?

the Observer I read somewhere that Kurt felt there was already enough slow heavy stuff on Bleach, so he decided not to put it on there.

I love the lyrics to Big Long Now. One of my favorite songs on the Incesticide album for sure. Before youtube came along, I went through the same agony over finding a live version on Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle. Great Video, thanks for sharing. : )

Big Long Now and Aneurysm are my favorite Nirvana songs! They are both very powerful songs although the first one is more of a slow trippy ballad! I saw a cover band play it on a KZbin and it’s sounds great live but you saw the real thing! Lucky you!
@guitaristcam55734 жыл бұрын
This is my favorite Nirvana song. That and Paper Cuts. It’s such an eerily heavy song apart from all the other songs they’ve recorded from then on. If Nirvana did a “reunion” again like they did at Cal Jam and played this song, the world of grunge would be complete.
@grimmcalypso94577 жыл бұрын
There has been speculation that BigLongNow was played at the Feb.89 KDorm show/party. Now we finally know for sure thanks to you!! I hope that full show surfaces one day, so far there's only been like 4songs from it that have surfaced, Paper Cuts being one of them

There's a video of Nirvana playing at Krist's mom's house in December of 1988 where they played Big Long Now, followed immediately after by a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song". Chad Channing on drums. It's on the DVD part of Nirvana's With The Lights Out box set. That was said to have been filmed by Krist's brother. This is it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXjHZWOIrM6abtU

New question. How had Nirvana exceeded your expectations by the time you heard In Utero? Also, was there EVER any talk on the underground of replacing Kurt Cobain once he died?
@JohnPurkey17 жыл бұрын
I didn't really look at it like that. When in utero came out, I was stoked to hear another record. I loved it! Other then that it was just crazy how huge the band was and everything that goes along with it. No talk of replacing Kurt.

I made a playlist of Bleach with Big Long Now between Swap Meet and Mr. Moustache to try and incorporate the song into the album and it's actually a great fit in my opinion. It adds some atmosphere to the last half of the record. Kurt should have allowed it on the album. It would have made the original album a nice even 12 tracks as well.
@davidchez5134 жыл бұрын
According to LiveNirvana, originally the band wanted Bleach to be like this: Side A: Floyd the Barber Mr. Moustache School Scoff Sifting Side B: Love Buzz Swap Meet Paper Cuts Negative Creep About a Girl Blew

Right, he might have been the first to go public. Especially for broadcasting through his community access tv show the footage of Kurt in the greenhouse, and made sure to point out the lack of blood compared to what was reported at the time as a point-blank shotgun blast to the head. And he brings up a lot of striking points!!!!

Cant remember where I read kurt saying they only played it a few times because it was too difficult. That's saying a lot because Kurt's ability to play and sing totally different rhythms at the same time was uncanny

Late but no, it's more like they hated that song for being too slow. There's two shows where a long time fan of the band requested Big Long Now twice (once in 1989 and another time in 1992) and both times Krist just told him: "We don't play that one anymore"

Hi i was wondering if I could speak to you personally? I'm hugely inspired by (the) Melvins, Nirvana, and Soundgarden (just to name a few). I have so many questions about creating my own original music in the same vein as these bands and you seem to be the perfect guy to talk to. I hate to get all gushy in the comments section but I eat sleep and breathe this style of music, I feel like if i'm not jotting lyrics or strumming out riffs i'll croak lol. Hope to hear from you!

the Observer well, here is the frustrating part. If it was the K Dorm show in '89, then it was almost taped. The '89 show has a circulating recording from the show featuring around 5 songs, but the recording is incomplete. We were that close to getting Big Long Now live. There is allegedly an uncirculated video, but who knows how complete that is.
