Scentless Apprentice Kurt wrote based on his favorite book "Perfume" about a guy that traveled the forests avoiding people. Which Kurt related to intimately. He later gifted the book to Courtney Love's very talented bassist and singer Kristen Pfaff. Which she took notice of and was threatened by because he wanted to divorce her. This was the last "Grunge" album Kurt wanted to make. "It might be nice to start playing acoustic guitar and be thought of as a singer and a songwriter, rather than a grunge rocker because then I might be able to take advantage of that when I'm older. I could sit down on a chair and play acoustic guitar like Johnny Cash or something, and it won't be a big joke" You did Kurt and we loved it. He had plans beyond Nirvana

fyi Scentless Apprentice is Kurt’s f-ed up version of retelling of his favourite novel “Perfume” by Patrick Süskind 😅

He would read it always on airplane flights. I've got to read it! I mean come on. I've been listening to Nirvana, probably my "favorite" band, ever since 1991, me being 13, love this song and haven't read the goddamn book!

It's been years since I read it (knowing this song first), but -- I'm not sure that the song is any more f'd-up than the original story, I think it's actually right on par? 😆

This is not an easy album to go into blind or for a first listen. So respect for coming back to it and discovering what makes it great/beautiful. It's so different from Nevermind but it's still Nirvana and it shows Nirvana's ability to make 2 perfect albums while being so different from each other.

Frances Farmer was an actress from the Puget Sound area. She was famous for her on screen performances and her off screen behavior. She was wild and free. They lobotomized her and she spent the rest of her life in an institution, if I recall correctly.
