ive been playing for a bit but just started with pedals and stuff and I was wondering what type of pedal you use to turn the clean guitar bits heavier? for examples of the types of pedals : Distortion and chorus

Depends on the sounds you want. I have a boss ce 3 for chorus and ive found that chorus pedal is the black sheep of chorus pedals, but it has a great nirvana sound. Now you said turn clean guitar a bit heavier. I can only assume youre talking about a boost. Look up transparent overdrive. Now for distortion, i use a ds 1 boss and though it may not be full on metal distortion but it does the job. Always experiment with sounds and controls and what order you put your pedals in. Also, most people think turning distortion up and every knob cranked is the best idea. This is a terrible idea. Try finding sounds you like on your own with trial and error and always keep in mind, "if a crowd hears this, will it hurt their ears?" If you cant find your own sound at first listen to songs and match your tone and pedals up to them. This will help
