So, here i am again, decided to tackle a G37. 2010. I installed 370Z heads from a good motor. MR16 headbolts, oil gallery gaskets, all seals EXCEPT, THE VTC cover seals & gaskets. ( seeing what i could get away with ) Now i have P0011-P0021 along with P0524. P0524 correlates with INT/V timing. I did a gallery gasket job on another G37 last year with VTC gaskets & seals, along with water pump etc & a VVEL module. His car ran perfect from the jump. Mine has intermittent dips at idle & shoots for limp mode after trying to bleed the coolant system too long due to ECU picking up the issue, going to fail safe mode. I am aware of Jim Wolf Technologies tech support section showing you what a slipping reluctor wheel looks like. I have ordered the gasket set from Z1 on the notion i believe oil is pissing out of my Cam Sprockets because, like i stated earlier, my buddies G37 ran perfect with gasket & seals replaced. Mine does not. Would you say this is a strong argument?

I had P0021 and P0524 codes, changed the bank 2 VVT solenoid (with cheap $40 unit) and it didn't fix it. Read the oil pressure, good at 2000 rpm and low at idle at opr temp. Replaced the GG and still have both codes now have P0300! I bought 6 of the washer gaskets and lost one so I only installed 5. Not sure which side I used the old one. Me and several others did the GG R&R and now have the same three codes. Could this be the issue, the washer gaskets or my "old" one? I am stuck and want to get another Hitachi unit if the cheap one is not 7.7-7.8ohms or just swap it out due to it being an intermittent problem. The car misses cold or hot and I replaced coils (cheap again) and still P0300.

I'm at this point as well, I just put a G37 together with a G37 bottom end, 370Z heads, seals & all. Oil gallery gasket,the works. What I DIDN'T DO !!! Was change the VTC gaskets, seals for cam phaser, & now I'm getting p0011-0021 along with P0524. I have just ordered the Z1 gasket set to see if my P0524 goes away due to like he said," Oil pissing out of the seals being worn, broken, or worse. P0524 is an oil pressure related code, would also throw p0011-21 in correlation with each other. Oil pressure on cold start (85-90PSI) Warmed up 194°F (about 15-16PSI)

When replacing vtc cover do you have to use and sealant on vtc cover gasket?

Nah, brand new nissan gasket only or it will leak...u can use a scotch brite pad for any extra corrosion around the edges...a cleaned surface with acetone

Have you ever had a vq engine rev to around 1000 rpm and lag, but on cold it’s fine? Trying to figure out what it could be.

That rattling noise at about 15% load i've seen a few times. I've pressure tested and logged and found during this noise one of the VTC is unresponsive and struggles to get to the same angle as the other up until 3000 rpm which then stabilizes and matches the other bank. While this is happening oil pressure fluctuates about 10-20 psi in an erratic way similar to heart attack on an ekg. This can be even after gaskets were performed. Your theory and explanation makes sense being that the cover can be receiving pressure but the rings in the cover might be leaking or the ide of the receiving end of the VTC could be worn causing oil pressure to leak between cover and VTC until 3000rpm which receives 40+ psi which is significan pressure and volume to force it into operation.

So i got my heads cut last week right. Not sure how many thousandths he took off or how warped the heads were, but will a stock head gasket be fine or would i need to go with a thicker head gasket? If so, is my motor now useless? Sounds to me like the timing cover bolts won't line up anymore because what your saying does make perfect sense.

They have very minimal milling clearance...if I remember it's something like .008 between the deck and the head..like a 5 cut on heads and a 3 on deck...they make thicker headgaskets..u need to know what those cuts were....like..a guy can't just do a 10 cut on the heads, that would never work

Wish me luck on this one. I got the motor running in an S14 240sx. The Exhaust manifolds kept glowing red Hot , l Iike dyno pulls red hot at idle. Noticed it always had fuel pressure but the needle was bouncing .. then 1 day.. needle drops to zero but pump still works.. Today!!!! I post this comment, No gas.😅 . I put 10 Gal in today battery died so will charge tomorrow after work, will update .

@@ryanwingfield8127 yea did a timing job 1.5k for the labor from my mechanic excluding parts from Z1 for all of the timing set, camphasers, water pump and Rockauto for the exhaust spockets. Basically changed everything in the Galley and now she's 168k strong.

Good Morning, fantastic video, I have a built VQ37VHR Turbo that is going into limp mode due to the phase not reaching required range, the motor functioned well for 4000km, and still runs perfect when not in limp mode, then started this error, it has had the block and heads cut, fitted with Wiseco pistons and Eagle H rods, after spending over $87,000 on building the car, the company that built the motor and the car has washed their hands of it (run out of tallent) Unfortunately there is no one that I have been able to find in australia that has the knowledge required to diagnose the issue, after watching this video it makes sense to me that this is what is occurring, is there any way of further diagnosing to be sure this is the issue prior to tearing the motor down? I really appreciate your input

Nahhh...but do have paper towels and brake cleaner ready when u take em off...oil will drain out

So ima having an issue had the car sitting for about 3 months oil is dirty now I’m having a limp mode situation not sure if it’s the solenoid or the vvel relay but car won’t rev past 5k on start up it does go to 7k

@@sethjoyner391 the real time data shows rich fuel and lean switching back and forth fast also it does backfire at 7k then goes limp but if there’s no load applied drive fine

The first years till around 2012 I believe, but u can see it on visual inspection of the rear case..loose screws, gasket protrusions etc

Me again 😅 1st rebuild never had a p0011 code. However the 2nd build runs amazing but its throwing that code and limp mode at 3500 4000 rpm. I changed the oil i bought new oem soulinoids even tho i tested the old one with 12 volts 😅. I reset the ecu after each fix and clear the code but keeps coming back in limp mode. I managed to figure everything else out (vvel issue and fan issues) but if i can just dial this last thing in i can have my car back with fully built motor. Should i change the cam sensor next?? Also want to add i got my vtc and timing cover powder coated. Should i swap out vtc cover and inspect the rings?

Powder coated vtc covers can 100% cause problems, check the obvious vtc solenoid harnesses aren't backwards etc

@brandenlaferrara9467 let's start off with this, u have ecutek or can read data streams...u want to look at the vtc advance angle...observe both banks and see how synchronized they are...that way u can see what's acting funky...are those new or old sprockets? Also make sure the mag pickup is clean on the sensors

@brandenlaferrara9467 also...at that rpm is when the cam should be making its 2nd advanced if I remember correctly..hopefully it's not a sprocket problem

@sethjoyner391 so while observing the vtc angles for both banks on my scan tool they need to have the same or similar readings correct? Also want to add it doesn't go in limp mode right away. I can drive the car normal for a little bit untill the ecu detects the problem causing it to go into limp mode.

@@sethjoyner391I pmed you on insta and TikTok. 2009 g37. 185k miles. Only code I’m getting. Will go in limp mode can’t go over 2.5k rpm’s. Then when I clear code. It doesn’t go over 3.5k rpm’s. Already replaced the solenoid and cam sensor. It just randomly popped up after a week of buying the car. Engine oil has been good and clean

@ryanwingfield8127 ahhhh....can u get any real time data video clips of vtc intake sprocket #2 advance and desired advance...if you have changed the solenoid and pulled the cover and inspected the seals and all that is good...given the year and mileage I would assume timing chain stretch and/or a failing intake sprocket....have you replaced the timing chain?...those years have known intake sprocket failures
