Nissan Ariya OTA Software Update

I've owned my Nissan Ariya for a few months now and in this video it receives its first over-the-air (OTA) software update. I also talk about Fully Charged Live South and why my ticket is in pristine condition. There's also a rather strange thing that happened while home charging my EV recently and why the Nissan Connect app did something unexpected.

Hi Andy, yet another interesting video for us Ariya owners. I have the same model as you, with the 63 kw battery, just a different colour. I spoke to you a few weeks ago about the App stopped working. There was a line across the Car symbol on the top left of the Nav screen. Well I contacted Nissan Connect Services and after several emails, they told me to take it to the dealership to have the Telematics Control Unit reset, it only took an hour to have the car back. But on re-stalling the App only the air con part of the App worked. So after contacting Nissan Connect Services again they escalated the case to their technical team for further investigations. Now suddenly all is working fine again. I must say the people at Nissan Connect Services are very nice to deal with and certainly do their best to resolve any issues you might have. As regards your charger switching off when opening the car door, mine does the same, but starts up again when I get in the car and shut the door. My charger is a cheap dumb charger that’s a few years old, but works very well. Although my “present” power supplier doesn’t support it for the cheap night rate, they only support their expensive ones. Most chargers now need internet to communicate with the suppliers. They like to be able to turn the charger off when they want if the grid gets a bit overloaded. They can’t do that with my old one. I just thought this might be of some interest. Must say I love the car, it must be one of the best electric cars around. Keep up your good work. Take care.

Thanks for the update. So interesting to read! I'm pleased your app issues got sorted eventually. It's interesting what you say about getting in the car and then the charge starting again. I must try that and see what happens! I agree about the car. Any excuse I get to go out in it and off I go. I've never felt that about any car I've owned previously.

Andy, once again, great video!! I’ll have to check mine today and see what version of software mine is running. Not had any OTA notifications since I got the car in March so let’s see. Just some info for you on the public charging experiences I’ve had on my Cornwall and west wales trip, well it’s been fairly hassle free to be honest. The only issues I had were the very first charger that the sat nav took me to, didn’t exist 🤔, then the Shell recharge around the corner was out of order! But after that, fairly pain free I’m pleased to say. Anyway sorry to “Ramble” on but thought you might be interested

Hi Tony. Thanks for your kind words - glad you enjoyed the video. The software update happened in mid April but I didn't have a decent opportunity to include it in a video until now. I suppose it's possible that your car, being new quite close to April, might've already had the update installed? So pleased to hear that your rapid charging sessions have been (virtually) hassle free. The South West is a place I like to visit, so I'm very interested in how things progress in that part of the country. Thanks for your feedback. 😊

The Ariya is the EU spec is designed to unlock the cable and stop the charging when unlocking the doors, that's correct, BUT for 30 seconds, after that it will resume charging because the car supposes that you didn't want to unplug it after that.

You're correct. If you don't open the door then the car locks itself and the charging kicks off again. I'm not sure I agree with the logic (especially when it stops as soon as you unlock) but more experienced people make those kinds of decisions! Thanks for watching. 😊

A question from a new subscriber - Have you tried pre conditioning the car? There’s a lot of owners reporting that the alarm goes off every time they try and warm the car up on the app a cold day. I’ve got an Ariya on order and wondered if has been fixed yet? I enjoy the way you describe your voyage of discovery on EV’s. Keep it up😁👍

Hi Charlie and welcome to the channel. I have another video coming up soon about the Ariya. The alarm issue you mention is something I'll be including so check that out when it drops! I've experienced the issue with the alarm going off but it seems intermittent. I may be way off the mark, but it seems to happen when the weather is on the warm side. It's a bit frustrating but so common that I'm hoping Nissan will be able to fix it. I noticed that a new version of the Nissan Connect app was released this last week so perhaps that has a fix in it for this problem, although I'd expect to see an OTA update for the car as well as surely that'll be needed too? It's not something that would put me off buying the car, but Nissan really need to sort this out! Thanks for watching and subscribing! 😊

I am surprised fhat it stops charging when you unlock. Our VW continues until we gell it to stop either via the app or on the infotainment screen. Perhaps you have a setting somewhere in the depths of the system which stops charging on unlock?

That's interesting to hear. As soon as I unlock the car there's a noticeable "click" as the car releases the lock on the type 2/CCS port and the vehicle immediately stops charging. I can do it via the app also. It's a great shout about checking the settings. I may have a look at the manual but it's hundreds of pages long and I slowly lose the will to live whenever I try to read it 😬😂

I have a Nissan Ariya here in the US - mine does not stop charging when I open or close the doors.

VW have messed up OTA with the ID.3. I am waiting for a dealer summons to take our car to be updated. The car doesn't really need an update but if they have improved anything related to charging and consumption for the better then it should be worth having. As it is we are getting almost 5 miles/kWh just now so it is costing us just over 3 pence per mile in electricity. Not bad, eh?

Hi Michael. 5 miles/kWh is excellent. I'd be curious to know if you're actively moderating how you drive the car or just not thinking about it (or perhaps a bit of both). Whatever you're doing, it's the right thing!
