Thanks for the vid! Bummer it makes the RPM's higher. The Rodeo rear for the LSD and Disc's was looking so tasty until you mentioned the lower gear ratio. I wanted a "Smudge" taller gears. Keep em coming! 😎👍

Thank you man!! There may be another rear end of the same dimensions with a different ratio(still 93-95 w leaf springs)! Not 100% sure but I’ll see if I can dig anything up for ya. It almost just feels like it needs a 6th gear now, maybe in the future if the trans blows I’ll see about adapting a CD009 or something similar

So my question. I have a 1997 N21 hardbody (4x4 4 cylinder). I drove it home, and the RPMs just seemed wayyyy too high. Even for a 4 banger, 3k rpm’s at only 63-ish miles an hour just seemed like it was too much on the engine. I’ve heard that some of these come with a stock 4.6:1 gear ratio and some with 4.3:1, is it possible to find a rear axle with a lower gear ratio for highway driving? If so, how will this affect its 4wd capability?

Yes, there are some different ratio axles throughout the D21s and Pathfinder(of the same generation) that should be mostly straight swaps but I’m unsure of all the different ratios and codes for them. 4WD shouldn’t be affected as long as all sensors are compatible.

I'm doing this swap right now but I've encountered a problem with the u joint, mine is not the same size as the dana 44 flange. I need to know what size/part# u joint you used and what year your truck is because the driveshaft may be different. I'm lead to belive this because your driveshaft uses snap rings to secure the u joint cap while my u joint caps are staked in place by a press that deformed the metal in the flange. My truck is a 91.

Is your truck a 2wd Manual single cab? Mine is a 95 Single Cab manual KA 2wd. I don’t have the part # on hand from the u joints unfortunately but I essentially took the yoke flange from the Dana and matched the u joint to it.

@Street Terror Garage Mine is a 2wd manual single cab, I did some research and the 91 truck has "non-replacable" u joints. Nowhere has that size in stock but I think a driveshaft from a later model will work.

@@tomakers57 Interesting. I have another driveshaft I pulled from a 92(?) and it’s almost identical to mine. Hopefully 92+ has the shaft you’re looking for

the only noticable difference under normal conditions is that it will chirp or skip when making tight turns at low speeds. for me having the diff plated & welded was cheaper and stronger than a locker or traditional LSD. Also more predictable in my opinion for drifting

Looks like I need to make a trip to the junk yard. A Dana 44 is upgradable right? I don’t need the gearing you’ve got, but I’d love rear discs and an lsd
@StreetTerrorGarage2 жыл бұрын
There’s a couple different ratios they come with and I know 4.10 is one of the others. I’m sure you could find aftermarket support for it pretty easily
