IT WORKED!!! I am a 50 year old woman. Money is tight. I am pretty handy with tools and always try to do things myself. My power window in my Nissan Frontier just quit. I knew that regulators are 200.00+ So, I thought I would give it a shot. There was a lot of carbon and grease just as you mention and the brushes looked fine. I did exactly as in your video...and the window works perfectly. Thank you so very much for your contribution. My hats off to you!!!

Thanks so much for this video. After taking apart my motor I noticed one of the carbon brushes was stuck down and not springing back into place. I applied some penetrating lubricant and gently worked it back out from behind until the spring worked again. Put it all back together and it works perfectly! Just be careful putting the worm gear back in. You have to move the brushes out of the way as you do and they are very fragile.

Thanks for the video! I didn't have time to pull the motor and regulator and needed to get the window back up before it rained, so I removed the door panel (but left the wiring connected) and pulled back the white insulator/protector. I located the motor and blew hot air from a hairdryer at the motor from a large hole in the door frame just to the right of the motor. The heat must have liquified the grease enough to get a connection, because after a few minutes, I pulled up the switch and the window went up without any issue. It took me 15 min. I plan to pull the motor and use your video to fix the issue for good in the near future. Thanks again for posting this!! HUGE help!!

Watching this video actually saved me $80.00 for the part and $35.00 for the switch. The rail grease hardened and the motor was corroded with carbon and dirt. Unfortunately for me the window was stuck in the up position and i had to use a ratcheting open and closed 10mm wrench to get the window mount out. I completely cleaned the rail with degreaser and re lubed using light white grease. I also used the same lube for the worm drive and both tips of the motor shaft. Thanks again sugarfreementos!

Thanks so much for posting this! I cleaned out the armature and housing the way you suggested and it worked great afterwards. One of the brushes had gotten gummed up and stuck in place, which may have caused the problem. There are a number of youtube videos that show how to replace the part, but that seems like such a waste after seeing how easily these can be cleaned up.

Another happy viewer here. My '04 Nissan Titan's window was intermittently getting stuck up or down. It seemed random and often if I hit the door or slammed it, the window would work again. The motor was easy to remove after searching for a video specific to my vehicle. Just as you said, the brushes were covered in carbon build up. I used mass air flow cleaner and a cotton swab to clean it. Also, I did apply a small amount of grease to the gears. Works great. Thank you!

I bought an old Armada a few months back and the drivers side window was the only one that would not roll down. I did your trick and had the window back in operation and it only took about 40 min. Nice tutorial thanks a bunch! One tip for others that might be trying this is i used some break parts cleaner on my brushes because they were not free flowing. You have to be careful not to spray it back in the gear area but you can spray it on the brushes and push them up and down and wipe them down with a paper towel and if they are like mine they came free and worked again.

Thanks for the help, I had the same problem. I would like to add a few additional tips. First off for those of you needing to remove the motor, look at the bottom of the door panel near where the 2 screws hold in the bottom of the window guide, and you will see a hole about the diameter of a quarter. Lower the window till the front screw that holds the window to the window guide lines up with the hole. Now you can easily use a ratchet with a 3 inch extension and 10mm socket to take out those screws. Then using a piece of wood about 1/2" X 1" in dimension, and about 20" long, you can raise the window glass up all the way by hand, and then slide the piece of wood into the back area of the door frame to hold the glass almost all the way up. As I had such a piece of wood handy, I found this easier than using tape to hold up the window. The main thing is to place the wood far enough back so you can pull out the whole motor assembly and window guide. I used 5 inch needle nose pliers to gently press in the plastic electrical plug retainer thing, and pull the plug out of the motor. If you can't unplug the wiring plug easily, your doing it wrong. Now remove the 3 screws for the motor, and 2 screws each for the top and bottom of the window guide and the whole assembly is ready to come out. Also instead of using fine grit sand paper, I cleaned the armature with a paper towel to get the build up of grease and carbon dust off, and then cleaned it again and shined it up using a kitchen scotch brite pad. Thanks again Mr. Mentos, you saved me $100 just for the part alone, and helped me feel the pride of fixing something myself.
@SnakeDoctor51044 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot!! Worked perfectly on my 2004 Nissan Maxima. I fixed both drivers and passenger side motors using your instructions, but instead of using sandpaper to remove the carbon on the metal surfaces, I just used Nevr- Dull. It takes a little more elbow grease, but doesn't remove any material from the contact surfaces, which potential could cause an issue. Especially if you do this multiple times.

I too was experiencing "the gap". I discovered there is a bearing/bushing at the bottom of the hole that the commutator assembly slides into. The problem is that the worm gear inside the motor housing pushes the worm and shaft of the commutator to catch on the bushing/bearing. I used some gentle and then less gentle taps with a hammer to seat the commutator. The result? A motor that gets hot but doesn't work. If you experience "the gap", you'll need to figure out a way to remove the worm gear from the motor housing (appears non-removable) or increase the chamfer on the bottom of the commutator shaft to get it to seat properly. Good luck!
@louisuga5 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is exactly what happened in my case. The little thimble-like cup that the commutator spins inside can become unaligned and very difficult to get the commutator to seat back into it. I was able to stick a long, thin screwdriver in there, past the white gear, and try to realign that thimble like cup, but I dented it in the process. While I do appreciate the money saving ideas presented, my window motor was original and thus 14 years old. It looked worn down as well as dirty with carbon. Happy to replace it for $50 and not have to potentially do it all again in a year. Thanks for the video though!

I don't mean to rain on the parade here, but I did the suggestions in this video step by step for my 06 Frontier. It worked initially as described, but a few days later it was back to barely working and needing to grab the glass by hand to close it. I took it apart again and thoroughly examined the regulator without the motor and found that the pulley that attaches to the cable binds in the pulley housing. I also think the cables are binding inside of the cable housings. I tried spraying WD40 into the housings (cables and pulley) then blowing it out with a compressor, then some Triflow, then pulled the motor apart again and noticed the worm drive gear had rough movement so I cleaned, blew out and lubed that. Then I installed a new Dorman regulator with the old motor- same problem, binding and barely functional enough to close while using my hand. So now I've ordered Dorman motor/ reg combo and we'll see how that works.

I really appreciate videos like this. My rear windows on both my 07 and my 2012...seems to be an issue like many other things...it's a shame a plastic part verses metal could be thousands of dollars... fortunately it hasn't happened to me yet...we need to start making stuff that lasts longer....nothing we buy doesn't last because they need to keep us buying so the rich get richer and we get shit...If General motors makes cars for 3 dollars per hour then shouldn't that reflect on the cost like cheap cars lol anyway thanks again.....

Sanding the commutator (copper bars) on the armature can scrape copper off and get it stuck between the bars (in the grooves between them) and short them which can keep it from working. So definitely clean out in between them after sanding or sand them long ways and brush between them with old toothbrush and you should be good.

So i bought a 4x4 Laramie Eco diesel 2015 now I'm averaging 17 to 18 miles to the gallon towing that boat and 28 miles to the gallon highway with no boat... and a ton of room I don't miss that little truck :-( :-) now 4 comments the gear housing to me was way over greased don't add any grease maybe take some out you can also try a black o'ring over that shaft if you're worried about it climbing over that seal I really don't know mine worked until I sold it good luck with your efforts and keep trying to save money

I have an 08 Xterra. I replaced the driver’s door switch as my window was down and wouldn’t come up. I bought a new motor/regulator in one. If I unplug the old motor and plug on the new motor without actually installing it-is that a way to see if the new motor works? I tried that but nothing happened.
