Great looking rig! We don’t have the Patrol here in the US. It honestly looks a lot like my XJ. I love that it’s an older cheaper rig that is getting you where you want to go. So many people in the States think they need to spend $50,000 on a rig and then another $10,000 in accessories to go off the pavement here. I am definitely more of a built not bought girl. Just my opinion. I enjoy modifying my rig myself as much as I do taking off road. Glad I found your channel. ❤️🐞

Thanks for the comment chick! Yes it’s defiantly the new norm to cash up on an expensive vehicle and hit it with expensive accessories. It’s a shame I feel, it makes it too easy for people and you loose the essence of what wheeling & camping is all about! I sympathise with your opinion totally!

Lovely vid. Hope you make a lot more! Exactly the type of content I love to watch. I have a GU and love it to bits. Got lots of bit and pieces as well. Just a bloody mess to organise the back eh? Definitely need drawers of some kind and a roof rack. I was wondering what make etc you have on yours? Is it steel or alloy? Cheers. Paul

Thanks mate, I appreciate that! Keep an eye on the channel - I’ve just got myself a GU so some of the content coming may interest you. Draws change everything, all of a sudden you just have somewhere for everything, can rate draws highly enough for any camping setup! I have a steel roof rack, it’s an older Overlander model. Does the job just fine. Good bang for buck ones are just the steel item from Supercenter even.

@@westralianoffroad Got yourself a GU as well! Great. Is it diesel? Mine runs nicely now (2004 with ZD30 motor). Had inlet manifold professionally cleaned - very clogged up. Also have a catch can and Dawes valve installed. I suppose I have been hanging out to buy the "best quality" rack and was aiming for an alloy job like Tracklander or Tradesman but there's always another big bill to pay! I totally agree with you about the drawers. I've had my GU for a couple of years now and been up to Exmouth and down south a few times. Rummaging around the mess in the back of the car is a nightmare after a couple of days. Was eyeing up the Drifta drawers. But recently been thinking about just putting in a false floor made out of Bunnings plywood and just getting a fridge slide for the Engel screwed onto it.Might have a rethink about the racks after what you say. I'll most definitely keep watching your channel as we have similar interests to you. Just exploring and being out in the bush, enjoying the environment and wildlife.Cheers and thanks for the reply. i had a tb42 really neat one as well and it outshowed alot of built rigs for a 5 grand car , but i was averaging 23 L per 100 >.

Mate couldn’t agree more it’s not about the $100,000 truck it’s about getting out to see the sights and build memories and experiences...theirs definitely way to many jacked up rigs with the typical kings gear winch and snorkel that don’t even get driven up a dirt road..keep it simple and just go try and get lost on an adventure with family and friends

Hey mat just wanna ask is that just the stock 4.2L petrol? I just picked up a patrol GQ with the same engine and everyone reckons there not that good? But mine is great I think

Richo Man dead stock mate! Apart from an exhaust it’s stock as they come. A lot of people do talk down at them unfortunately, but they are a good strong engine! Like anything, you treat them well, keep them maintained and they will look after you.

I moved it on mate. Bit over a year ago now. I was having maintenance issues and rust. So I bought the Patrol I have now!

@@westralianoffroad I can understand that. I love my 80, but I look at newer vehicles all the time thinking about how much I would feel more secure on longer trips. If I'm 3 hours from the house and I need to do some bush mechanic work, no big deal. But if I'm 2 days from home and I have something break on me, that's a different story.

I'm looking for a 1992 gq y60 (base model) with 4.2 petrol. What should i look out for?

coverts 44 a good start is to try and avoid one that has/is been on LPG mate. They don’t really like LPG, even though so many had it installed. And try if possible to grab an EFI model. I know you mention base model, but the EFI models are quite cheap these days, with power windows, electric mirrors ect. The EFI is far better for reliability, economy and drivability. Other than that, just your usual things you would want to keep an eye out for purchasing any secondhand vehicle.

Rb30 patrol is faster than tb42 but tb42 tows better

Loved my trusty reliable GQ had it 14 years & I still miss it now I have a GU TD42TI 2003 model I love it to but I hated my 80 series unreliable piece of shit fuck Toyota
