My problem started after changing batteries after a low battery warning. This video is great for getting the car started, but I found a solution that actually makes some small amount of sense. I believe that the root of the problem is that, though the instructions call for an CR2025 battery, many folks use the more common CR2032 because it fits and works most of the time. The problem is that the CR2032 is thicker than the CR2025. When using the CR2032, overtime, it pushes the negative contacts (the 4 spring contacts on the board) down far enough to make contact with the printed circuit board (PCB) metal pins beneath the contacts, causing an unexpected and unplanned for electrical situation in the circuit. By placing a piece of paper beneath the contacts to protect the PCB, this situation is avoided. I used small rectangular sections of the sticky part of a yellow sticky notepad and tweezers to do this, because the sticky side holds the paper in place. An alternative would be small pieces of actual tape and might work better because it is less likely to move from position. Like this comment if this worked for you. Good luck!

I tried multiple fixes...and I'll be damned this is the one that worked! Both of my key fobs were having the same issue with brand new batteries. I was using the CR2032 battery for each of them and I used the small piece of paper from a post it note under the contacts and it works now! Thank you for posting this fix @SteveSoundManEvans !

I found that this works even if the fob has no battery installed. There's a circular inductor on the fob's circuit board at the logo end of the fob, and I'm guessing there's a matching inductor inside the dash, either around or just past the Start button, and this wirelessly/inductively sends just enough power into the inductor inside the fob to allow the fob to be seen by the car. So as long as you still have the physical key to get into the car, you don't have to worry if the fob's battery dies altogether.

I am a Gram whose car (Nissan 2012) is in perfect shape. I love my baby girl. Today, though,- I went to a meeting. Went to hit top button to lock doors and secure car. Doors would not lock ! I struggled along for a few minutes,- and went in to meeting,- hoping my car alarm would protect my girl. And of course if your alarm goes off perhaps you locked the fob inside with a bad battery and you had to call AAA to unlock the car as I had to. Well when the door is finally opened by AAA then you can use the valet key inside to turn off the alarm.

I was having this same problem and what I found to work was to pull the key out of the fob and insert the key into your driver side door and lock the car twice and unlock the car twice. I was able to use the key fine for a month before having to repeat the process.

Have been dealing with this issue for about a year now didnt want to spend the money at the dealership. What i noticed was the contact points on the battery side were compressed. All i did was pull them out with some needle nose plyers so that when the controller is shut the pins touch the contact point on the circuit board. Hope this helps

Not sure if this will work for everyone but I found this while doing a remote start. Behind the instrument cluster is the ecu I believe. I had an issue for awhile and could not for the life of me figure it out. Not kidding, take out the instrument cluster (it's not hard) and push on the connectors on the box behind it. Took me over an hour of trying to figure out out. Pushed on the connector (specifically the 40 pin black connector at the top center) and it immediately recognized the key.

Great video, also just to make it to Autozone, O'Reilley's or Home, there is a key FOB holder close to where the Skid control button is - you can place the FOB in that holder and the car will start as well...Again, Great Video...Thanks!!!!

I've found that the battery contacts that touches certain points on pcb isn't making good contact. There are two places. One on the back cover, 2 prongs, and a 6 prong on the pcb. I gently bend them upwards, and clean the 2 small gold contacts with 90% isopropyl alcohol. Worked on both of my fobs.

I have a 2012 Nissan Rogue. It is not push button start, it has a regular ignition that you can put the key in even though you don’t have to. I had to call a friend and once I got a boost from him it started up like new, I haven't had the problem since then. I do keep good quality spare batteries In the glovebox just in case. I checked my charging system and it's okay, so I'm baffled as to why it happened in the first place.

Wow either I'm blind or there is nothing in the manual about how to start the car with out a working fob. Doing laundry I forgot my keys in a set of pants, needless to say when I realized it was too late. I took the fob apart dried it with a blow dryer and checked the battery with my volt meter. It said 2volt being a volt low I worried and went and got a new battery. The car started but I was so worried when I got to my local walgreens I locked the car knowing I could open the door with the key and left it running. Drove home and this morning dam thing wouldn't start. Watched your video and pressed the start button with the fob and it started but still will not start with the fob only by pressing. I don't think I can ever trust the fob very worried what this is going to cost to replace. 2016 Nissan Rogue.? Thanks at least I can get to the dealer now.

Did you try the break switch? Take it off and wd it and put back. Often people say just wiggling it works. Also could be car battery is low no? Should always update for others and you for years and years of references for millions too.

@@Vossen_Will there’s a module behind the glove compartment that links the wireless key to the car. you should be able to look it up on KZbin on how to find it. most likely it is lose or you’ll just need to replace it. It’s around 20$ on eBay I think. 30 minutes fix.

Hi all. I was given a spare key fob with my used 2017 Murano. I lost my other fob. Anyhow, it needed a new battery, so I put in a brand-new Energizer 2032. It wouldn't unlock the doors, so I used the key to get in. I touched the fob to the start button which then lit up. I was able to start the Murano, but the dash stated, "No key detected" with another message below that that stated, "key 2 detected". Both warnings together and those messages came up 3 times. The Murano would now start with just touching the button, but it would give those same messages and the door locks, tailgate wouldn't work. Moral of the story, after 30-45 minutes of troubleshooting? As someone stated below, "don't put the battery in with the positive side facing upwards! And I would like to also add "don't drink and perform the battery replacement at the same time". LOL Thanks for the advice, George. And everyone else.

If the primary keyfob and the spare are unrecognized, I believe the vehicle needs to be reprogrammed. A dead battery isn't always the cause.

Also check your car battery voltage because if it’s below 12 volts the car will say you have the incorrect key.

My Infiniti q 50s keys don't have a signal it's odd because the my key went literally the day after I missed my appointment at Infiniti I wonder if they have a signal jammer of some sort.. anyways. I picked up a replacement key from Amazon for $60 (FCC numbers match up) it's legit I don't know if a locksmith can program without a working key

@@davids5529 If you take apart the key fob you have the battery compartment with 2 prongs. Make sure they are not bent. On the PC board you have four prongs in the middle that provide the link for the energy to travel throughout the board from the battery. Make sure all of these prongs are pointing upward at a 35 degree angle as they were originally.

Poor quality car keys. I replaced batteries several times, doors (un)locks except key not recognised unless holding it close to the start button. Fix: open car key remote and inside carefully bend the contactpoints so they make better contact.
