LEAF is a great commuter EV. Got a 2018 recently. The 40kWh LEAF has a 100 miles range which is fine for my work commute and occasional journeys up to 200 miles with a charge en route. I wouldn't personally do longer journeys with it but others have done and coped ok. It's great value as a used purchase now. Less than £10k in the UK. If you can charge on AC at home and don't need a massive range, it's highly recommended. These are solid, reliable EVs.

I couldn't believe it is 100 miles range. It has to be above 220km range no matter how you drive it. I own the China's version of leaf with only 38kWh battery. I bought it in 2019 and still have a range of above 260km.
@decimal1815
@decimal1815 5 ай бұрын
@@Xunxunism Typical energy efficiency is 4 miles / kWh for me, so if you have 31kWh usable battery capacity remaining after 6 years, that's 124 miles max, assuming you don't want to run the battery down to zero. A new car will have more like 140 miles. In winter, with a headwind, at 70mph, with heating on, efficiency will go down to around 3 miles / kWh so my 31kWh will give me 93 miles max.

I would always consider a Mk2 Nissan leaf if you daily commute is less than 120 miles a day. They seem to be very reliable and spare parts are plentiful. Also available are CCS to CHAdeMO adaptors which are a bit pricey at the moment, but I'm sure they will a cheaper more reliable.

We had two Nissan Ariya, and just exchanged one of those (it was a lease and we gave it back) for a used Nissan Leaf+ (the one with the 62kWh pack). Reason was the monthly cost of owning two Ariyas just was a bit excessive, as great as they are. We are super happy with the Leaf. It's a commuter car, my wife does travel 100Km a day to get to work and back and the Leaf does that perfectly, using about 20% of charge for each leg, so she usuallly comes home with 60ish % SOC, plugs it in (240V only) and the car is at 100% again before we even get up next morning. It saves us 180 bucks a month, and there is not much we are really missing compared to the Ariya. Number one on that list would be the Matrix LED system, which is just phenomenal on Ariya (the static LED lights with LED cornering lights on the Leaf are as good as it get's though), number two would be the electrically controlled seats, since these just make it a lot easier to switch drivers, but with that we are talking first world problems already. Apart from that, the Leaf was so ahead of its time, that short of the finish inside the car and the charging performance, which with the Ariya obviously is on another level, in day to day handling it really feels like a car of the same generation as the Ariya. This is mainly due to the fact, that Nissan did a really good job with their App infrastructure, which makes it so the Leaf has exactly the same remote control options via the app as Ariya. So you've got both cars in the same app and you can do the same things with it, seeing what it does, preheat the cabin, let the lights flash and honk the horn to find it in a car park, open and lock it, up to using it as a Wifi hotspot. The car even looks nice and contemporary. It's super comfortable and reasonably quiet (not as quiet as Ariya, but it is a compact car and not a premium mid size car, and it is as quiet as I would expect a current EV in that price range to be), it's got (a slightly older variant of) Pro Pilot which works great, it's got emergency braking, blind spot assist, 360° cameras, heated seats and steering wheel, the Leaf is of comparable efficiency as well, which is pretty amazing given that it is a generation older. ...you really don't have to give up a lot when switching over to the Leaf, and what you give up is well worth the money you save. Most importantly, just like Ariya, EV or not, it is a really good, well thought out car that is super reliable and just works well in day to day life. There actually are some things we even prefer on the Leaf. It has a button on the dash and the key fob to open the charge port. That is so much better than the way this is handled on Ariya. Also, I actually like having actual buttons for heated seats and heated steering wheel. And then there is E-Pedal, which on the Leaf is just better than on Ariya. If only Nissan had brought a CCS version of the Leaf, they would have sold orders of magnitude more of those. That said, at least in Germany, thanks to Aral Pulse and EnBW, there is a very good coverage of modern Chademo chargers now, so with the Leaf+ (I wouldn't dare it with the 40kWh one), you can actually do the occasional longer trip. All in all, for what it is, I think the Leaf is one of the best cars you can get right now.

Recently got 2022 40kwh sve spec with 10k kms. Was very apprehensive getting it but man it is great to drive. The pro pilot is a dream. Switch it on keep a leg touching the wheel and it will bring you up and down the motorway with very little input. As an FYi I have a 120km round trip a couple of days a week into the office made up of mainly busy motorways and I get home with 50% battery. All in all.. for the price of low mileage second hand ones, I couldn’t recommend them enough. Sure it’s not a m5 but come on… most of our driving in this country is in stop go traffic!

This great review shows why old tech and low tech works at the price. The killer for me is the now well out of date charging tech, but otherwise it works. A bit over 8 seconds to 60 mph is about what I had with Alfa GTV6s in the early 1980s and it did not feel too bad then though probably sounded quite a bit better.

On my third Leaf. Why? Reasonably price and practically maintenance free. For example all three Leafs: one new 12 volt battery, two new wipers one new tire, one tube silicon, one recall to replace a bolt under driver's seat and one page added to Owner's Manual. Plus fun and easy to drive.

I drove the first gen leaf for 6months as my first Ev , fantastic car it was, 17kwh usuable battery after about 10years. I really like the car but 2 things put me off when i did upgrade, lack of active battery thermal management and CCS charging port. I was stocked at slow chargers for hours on several occasions as the chademo i planned to use where out of service while ccs where abundantly available at those times. I now drive an MG Zs despite having the chance to own a 2022 nissan leaf at a cheaper price than the MG. The MG isn't perfect but coming from a gen 1 leaf with only 17kwh available battery,the MG is far more suitable for my use and knowing that i can charge at all charging stations is an additional peace of mind. But overall the leaf was a good car but Nissan failed to listen to customers about active cooling and ccs. In Sweden you can get the leaf top spec at a bargain.

I have had a leaf for 4 years as my daily driver. No issues at all. It's a strange thing by Nissan. Fantastic to drive, big enough, small enough, quick enough, comfortable, quiet. But for some reason Nissan did not bother to put in CCS and improve both the battery and install cooling for it. Very odd. Outstanding as a second car for a family but only as long as you can put an EV plug on your property.

i've driven 4 million miles in 45 years. owned lots of cars vans and motorbikes. our 2020 40kw leaf is an incredible car. in 4 years only had to buy one wiper blade. has cost us almost nothing. cheaper than the bus. never fast charged it. never serviced it. no need to is there? the mot is the service on an ev imho. 2023 cost us 190 quid entire year in electric 15k miles. the range is the same as the day we got it. not fast charging is the key to long battery life. in fact we have only ever charged using the nissan supplied charger. if you rarely drive more than 100 miles in a day just go buy one. you WILL NOT REGRET IT. the leaf drives like a rolls royce and costs less than takin the bus. utterly amazing car. we will keep ours untill it either rusts away of breaks down

The leaf uses the Japanese standard chademo for DC charging and either type 1 AC charging 3.3kwh or, on later cars type 2 which is 6.6kwh. the AC is what it is and for 99.9% domestic property that's fine as you are usually limited to 7.6kwh in any case. The issue is the DC. The EU decided on CCS as the standard plug so all new cars get supplied with that. Most existing on the road chargers have both, so no issues, but some just have CCS. There is an adapter, although it's expensive. If this is to be your second car, and you can install a plug at home, it will be perfect. Longer journeys will be fine but you will end up avoiding some charger brands which means more planning.
@patrickjr11
@patrickjr11 5 ай бұрын
Residual prices in 4 years? Not likely to be that strong. Chademo will be less and less in the market so less and less support for the chargers on the road. They won't be that desirable in 4 years time I am afraid. Buying second hand now, is fine and keep long term. New as a PCP now, I would think carefully about it. It's an excellent car, just not great technology any more.

And a lower boot lip than the Soul, that’s the main car here. Home charging mostly anyway, so Chademo wouldn’t be an issue. ( Think there’s a converter plug now too, anyway).
