Nissan Navara 2021 Genting Hill Climb - The Mother Trucker Returns & Goes All The Way Up

Thirteen years ago I attended the launch of the first Navara - It was christened the "Mother Trucker" - I still have the T-shirt.
Now the Mother Trucker returns, and it is a good as ever, and fitted with loads of goodies.

Gear shift is a bit sluggish really need to anticipate the kickdown when u want to overtake in normal auto mode. Ride and handle like a sedan car.. no boaty feeling..

We were abt to buy the triton but opt for the new navara Vl. Reason:- no rear diff lock and still unassisted tailgate

@@flyingbong88 Mitsubishi Malaysia advertised as latest new model, upped the price to above rm 141,000, changed triton top end name from adventure X to Athlete, change color from black to orange, yet that's it. Nothing new for new price. Without rear diff lock as in thai or ozzie models of triton, our malaysia super select ii isnt really truly 4 x 4 hardcore. nissan navara, isuzu dmax X terrain, hilux rogue , etc all have rear diff lock already. What is Mitsubishi Malaysia waiting for?

It does not shift down if you are at wrong speed, so no need to worry.

Sir, at some point you have to review the monsterous Land Cruiser 5.7L 32V V8 Turbo.. Very famous here in Sabah & Sarawak.. We dont bother the brands of Merc BMW etc for power & luxury.. I still drive my 1993 Land Cruiser 4.2L 12V i6 NA, no power at the mountainous region of Mt Kinabalu, but yet still have the style.. 😂

We dont have any issues with this gearbox. Btw, the Navara does not come with a CVT.

The XLT has an older engine, and stiffer suspension. Depends on what you need.

Some say it is due to the quality of our diesel which is not compatible with the new engine. (The 2.3 tt requires Diesel with Euro4M standard if I'm not mistaken). Sure there are Euro5 diesels in some fuel stations but I don't know. Just my 2 cents.

Oh so the suspension have no leaf metal plate bars?. Mr. Khong, among all the SUV I notice the best you have ever driven hard was Toyota Fortuner. Would you say that's a better SUV overall?

You mean leaf springs, yes, this one has coils. Note that this is a pick up truck, and the Fortuner is a SUV. Yes, the Fortuner is a good and tough SUV, and it is good for certain tougher applications. Of course there are also comfortable SUVs and they are good for certain other applications too. What is best for you depends on your needs really.

Option to mod would be considered too. I saw a few mod Fortuner in Indonesia very nice. Not sure of the ride quality though.

Tried most of the pickups, the Hilux, the new D-max, and Navara. Picked Navara as I am not going offroad and I enjoy the coil spring suspension. As for the the Hilux and D-Max, not sure why when I drove them, does not warrant me to spend money on them

Not really, it’s actually noisier as Navara still using old engin 2.5L instead of 2.3L Turbo which being using by Toyota Thailand. That’s why Malaysian Navara fans are disappointed with this.

Most common issue of navara I found from my research is the problematic gearbox. I would choose either hilux or dmax for less headache.

They need to offer the Navara with the v6 the 2022 north american frontier is available with . The current engine is vastly underpowered . As far as the manual mode on the automatic transmission it's sluggish when changing gears but that's the case on majority of the automatic transmissions fitted to suv/ trucks , but that's to be expected since it's paired to a small engine . I like the facelift on this Navara from a esthetics point its the best looking pickup available as far as the engine and transmission it's pretty much the same as my current 2018 Navara. Im in the market for a second pickup and this is an option but I just don't like the engine. The only other choice currently is the f150 I just wish the f150 raptor was available in the Philippines that way I'm not buying another truck that I only like partially.
