You have to squeeze the release tab to "unlock" it while pulling at the same time. It tends to get stuck because it's under the car and obviously gets dust/dirt in it. Give it a good squirt with water before hand and some silicone spray to hopefully free it up.

@@ScottElliott152 Yep its fairly gummed up, also have you heard of or experienced surging and black smoke going uphill related to the NPS not working correctly?

@@kymf06 No I've never experienced that nor have a I heard of it. The CC is just operating the throttle based on a feedback loop from the speed signal so I can't see how that black smoke problem has anything to with the CC system. It would also happen if you were manually applying throttle to go uphill. As soon as the NPS switch is triggered the CC goes off and stays off until you hit "Resume" or set it again.

Did this and worked a dream but must have put too big a spot on it as now 4wd low and engine prewarm not working which require neutral to be registered to work. There is continuity when in neutral, will have to remove and grind back a little - don't suppose anyone knows what the exposed length should be?

@@1961wilco I have a spare new NPS. I'll measure the exposed length and put it in the video description. Check in 24 hours as I'll measure tomorrow.

Just looking at fixing my sensor, can you just wire it together and forget the switch all together? This should allow me to idle car up with cruise controls while stationary?

@AdvenTourAus check for yourself but I understand if you disconnect the switch the CC will set because the switch is normally closed. No, you won't be able to use it to idle up. The CC can't be activated until 30kph (or it maybe 40kph) ... besides the throttle adjusts trying to keep a constant speed that's been set. If the switch is disconnected, then your engine will run away if you touch the brake or clutch while on cruise so you have to be cautious.

I don't know as I've not had it out. If the switch is the same style then perhaps. It's simple to remove so maybe do that to investigate if the same repair is possible.

I haven't had that problem so I don't know. It could be any number of things. For these types of problems you have to work through a methodical process of elimination to isolate the cause of the fault. The Nissan Dealers have the diagnostic software that would probably point you in the right direction.

Is this switch open when neutral is active or closed. My plan is to link out the connector underneath to make my cruise control work on demand.

The switch is closed when the transmission is in neutral and open when in gear. So, if you disconnect the switch the CC will set because it thinks the transmission is always in gear.

@@LAW-fv6ys You have to be aware that if you knock the lever into neutral whilst the CC is set the revs will suddenly increase as throttle is applied to try to maintain the set speed. The engine will quickly over rev. That's the reason the CC set is turned off when the transmission is in neutral. When you say "work on demand" are you trying to have the CC system active (that is ready to set) as soon as the car starts?

HELP...........I have a 2012 Nissan Navara D40 dual cab ute and my problem is i put it in to drive it changes from 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and thats as far as it will go it wont change to 4th even when I swap to manual change it still wont change gear I'm hoping it needs a oil refill otherwise I dread to think anything else with the gearbox. Any ideas boys that anyone has had that problem themselves.

This is a video about the neutral position switch on a manual transmission and how it affects the cruise control. Your question appears to relate to an automatic transmission not changing beyond 3rd gear. First step is to check the ATF level. When was the last time the ATF and internal filter were changed? If you have no record or it was done years ago change it.
