For me, it's the fact that it comes with all the tech and features all other brands are removing from their top trims due to "the war" now they can't blame C19. You can pay for all the now additional extras that used to be as standard and still have your car arrive 10 months later with none of them installed. That's unacceptable. But not with this car. I'm hoping to test one later today!

Sorry to be nerdy, but the infotainment screen is 12.3 inches the same as the digital instrument panel; on the Nissan Qashqai epower, not 11 inches. They have also fitted it to the rest of the range, as a model year 2 upgrade. I know this, because I have just ordered a Qashqai Tekna Plus. Brilliant review by the way. I know it's a Japanese company, but the new Qashqai was designed, engineered and built in the Nissan factory Sunderland. Probably as close as you can get, to a British built car these days. 😁

Hi all, I'm umming and ahhing about hybrids. I was looking at the Seat Leon plug in hybrid, which has decent electric range, but can get over 50mpg in real world tests. I've heard and seen reviews that say that this e-power is not as efficient for mpg as the Toyota RAV4 hybrid and the Honda HRV hybrid. What are your thoughts on this? I'm loathe to go full electric at the moment.

Hondas dons break very often. I had a Nissan xtrail that a parted company with at 125k miles and 9 years of service. It had new turbo and several other bits and bobs. I currently have a Honda civic it had 4K on when I purchased it 9 years ago it has 124k on the clock it’s tyres and break discs. But I am also considering the same two cars. The Nissan looks better value when standing on the show room. But in 7years time the Honda may be better value But I am still undecided. I would like to know what you choose and why. Choose wisely.

Do you drive a lot of motorway, say around 100 km/h or over? If so that is the reason. All hybrid cars loves the city, likes the country roads but hate the motorway/highway. For motorway/highway above 100 km/h a lean diesel is more economic. Outside of that a hybrids is better.

@lazlo09
@lazlo09 9 ай бұрын
@@christostsikouridis7674 I cant know for sure but if your highway driving is mostly over 100 km/h and fairly flat road then a lean diesel will almost certainly have better fuel economy, depending the size of the car. Also depending if you have far higher taxes for diesel cars in Austria (like we do in sweden). One thing to consider is also the very nice driveability and almost quiet driving experience in the E-power. Diesels can knock quite a bit and you will have a normal transmission. The e-power is like driving an electric car without gears. Ideally you should lend the car for a day from your dealer and drive the route you take to work. Measure the consumption and see how it is. Then wage the nice quiet electric driving of the e-power against the possibly leaner diesel.

@ram64man
@ram64man Жыл бұрын
No it’s like the honda jazz no direct link between wheel and. Engine yes it does go through the small Battery. Others are right it is similar to the i3 Rex but not quite the same since the petrol part doesn’t ever stop and won’t get you out of congestion charges , it will just be a smaller engine overall acting as generator. Effectively the equivalent of a 2.5 equivalent from Toyota with better fuel economy, the down side the engine noise will vary a lot due to demand a bit like a cbt gearbox when you put your foot down hard it will be louder that can continue even when stationary for a moment but not as long like the i3 Rex did . What this all boils down to is it’s a different take on a standard Prius without the slow wheel speed
@mondotv4216
@mondotv4216 Жыл бұрын
No - the Ampera had an electric only range of 35 or 53 miles depending on the version. This has an electric only range of practically nothing. A 2kWh battery really can't deliver enough power to do anthing more than maintain speed at about 25mph. The motor pretty much has to run all the time the car needs power to drive the wheels. It certainly couldn't accelerate under battery power alone. This is similar to a range extender technically but without the benefits of a large battery. Both th i3Rex and the Ampera/Volt had large traction batteries with the petrol generator acting as a true range extender. Here the petrol generator doesn't extend the range - it essential to get the car rolling.

The best purpose I can see for this new Qashqai is as a Tow car, What's it's towing capacity? as with a 650 mile range it could work really well as a tow car and would be incredibly smooth and responsive with the electric engine. The noise you mention in the honda and Toyota has nothing to do with it being a hybrid car. @ChorleyGroup

The Toyota and Honda use an eCVT gearbox, which do not use belts (they use the electric motor and engine to vary the output gearing). The drone under acceleration is from the engine revving at a constant high RPM to give enough power to enable the motors to increase their output. e-Power has no mechanical link between the engine and the wheels, so doesn't suffer from this in the same way. The engine doesn't NEED to start under high load, unless the battery is low, whereas in the eCVT, the engine NEEDS to increase RPM to vary the output ratio of the gearing.

A total engineering fail. The claimed power will never be delivered - a 115kW generator and tiny battery driving a 140kW motor? Just a weird choice by Nissan. You can buy this car which does a claimed 5l/100kms or you could just buy a Prius hybrid which does 3.5l/100km. Or the ICE version which does 6.1l/100kms.

I was thinking the same thing. Obviously the car doesn't need to use the full 140kW of the motor, but even so what exactly is the benefit of this design - unless Nissan has decided it's better to have an electric motor than a gearbox. I read elsewhere that the battery is only 2.1kWh - so I guess it may be able to use the full 140kWh for about 54 seconds provided you're happy to drain the battery and there is 100% efficiency in delivering power from the engine and generator to the battery and then the motor.

So much talk, sorry, but motors are not powered by engine but generators. Generator are not drive by horse power, generator work by RPM or rotating speed and torque. Seems you was not paying attention in physic class, that a kw in a engine is different from one in generator. You spreading the nonsense about engine kw, Nissan did not disclose how much kw in electricity or kw the generator push. They said the ENGINE made a 115kw, so here you misleading whoever read the comment. So comparing a car to taller SUV, lol. Wait the cross with 2.0 l does not do any better, so that why you go speak about prius. Oh , I guess you have no idea there are many of them in Asia, so all you doing is making complains, which nobody who owes one have said. Even when the battery is low, never seen any videos or blog about power loss or drop.i bet you never seen the video of the e- power Qashqai getting 4.4 l/km in real-world independent test via KZbin.

@@kingscres what nonsense, first Nissan never said anything about any generator, they clearly said the engine made 115kw, the generator power is unknown. what does the power of the motor have to do with power of engine?. Are generator driven by Rpm /inertia or is it driven by horse power? As engineers generator are driven by RPM, the faster it spin the more it generates, electricity, a 47 HP engine can rotate up to 6,000 RPM, so what nonsense is this talk about 150 HP or 115 kw has to do with the motor demand of electricity. And I am lost why people keep on taking old past system and attach to new modern technology, series hybrid was less efficient because motor had 80% efficiency, engine only had 20% thermal efficiency, modern days engine are hitting 40% thermal efficiency, motor are now 99% efficient, but yet some of us still stuck in the past. A gear box was not necessary because, Nissan leaf in 2010 had an efficiency of 96% at 1000 RPM and 89% at 10,000 RPM, Nissan have gone thru 3 generation of motors, although not disclose the EM47 had to be much more efficient than the EM61 first came out in 2010. There are few video around with independent test, the car can go as low as 4.4 l/km around city and as high as 5.5 l/km on motorways, it not different from the 2.0l corolla cross hybrid. If they do come out with a 50% thermal efficiency engine in two years time, the engine operation will surpass a diesel economy.

@@cb5110 Sorry, the engine power is known and it's 115kW - that's the engine part of the generator. Because no engine is 100% efficient at delivering the power to a generator then there will be losses. It seems you weren't paying attention in physics class or you'd know about the 2nd law of thermodynamics. And the battery is 2.1kWh - even if it could deliver 10C for a short beriod of time that's a maximum of 21kW for say 10 seconds. It's a crazy inefficient design and it's more about marketing than engineering.

@@mondotv4216 You the one not paying attention in class, because clearly I said the engine power is known, the generator power is not, it does matter loss of the engine all ICE have losses, the epower is 42%, thermal eff, the thing you are try to assume, is the generator loss which you have no clue about , duty cycle, Av, kw power or HP, or it efficiency, so what if the engine have loss? The engine loss had nothing to do with the generator, the energy is not transferable, the k and p are not driving the wheels, so it not mechanical, generator only use the inertia to output current and voltage base on rpm, not on gasoline burning. The engine can consume 1.5 l/100 km turn a generator at 1000 rpm using setup gearing, with ratio 7:1, Yea similar to how you bicycle operate, big gear drive a small gear, the same engine can drive a generator at 8l/100km at 1000 rpm without gear. Since you think you so verse at thermo, is the 1.5l/100km consuming more than the 8? Oh since you believe you know everything, the Nissan epower have a setup gear. By the way since you think you know it all, the Lotus Evora 414e hybrid which the epower is based off 1.2 L engine only output 47 hp, but it hybrid system output support motor of 400 HP. Yep since you are so verse and I was not paying attention in class, why not tell us how a 47 hp engine can power a motor of 400 HP.
