Nissan screwed up their product line. Installing unreliable and unwanted CVT transmissions, switching to front wheel drive in cars like the Pathfinder which most buyers prefer rear wheel drive in. So to many buyers their product line is a turn off. All by their own making.

Finally a channel from Canada. I've been looking around here in Alberta and they won't go down a cent for trucks and larger SUVs AWD. I'm at the point to find out if its cheaper to order one from USA and bring it through the border. Due to my severe bad back issues I found out I cannot drive a small SUV . I tried out 3: Blazer RS, Rouge, and Terrain. I had trouble getting in as to low and difficulty getting out. I've been in bed now over a week . I have a 2009 Pontiac Montana SV6 extended I bought new and has now 170,000 km . The problem is I need an AWD for this province. Plus I need a vehicle I can slide in and out of seat without bending or needing help to get out lol . These sales people just don't understand disabilities and trying to place a person from a truck into a floorboard. glad I found your site

Problem today is that you have to have all the bells and whistles, backup camera, apple car play/bluetooth, all the safety features, has to be fast, god forbid it doesn't have 200+hp, even though back in the day that was a supercar lol. They just keep adding things that people NEED in a car and we get what we have now, entry level cars that are $30K+. I would love to be able to just buy a Honda CRX, like I had in 1990. Lasted for over 300K miles and still running when I sold it. Cheap as hell to maintain and easy to fix. I love technology etc, but now a car is something to get me to where I need to go, reliably. I'm past my fast car, trying to look cool days lol. I'd rather invest my money, than throw it down the drain in a new car.

I just can't believe Nissan stayed with the CVT for so long! When they saw the damage piling up they should have dropped the tranny and went to traditional transmissions. Nissan's name is so tarnished it is time to drop the name and go back to Datsun and start making quality vehicles like they know how to do. What has happened is everything went way up, but wages stayed the same and they just kept on making them.

None of this is a surprise, there are just to many auto manufacturers selling cars at astronomical prices. Most are all for Unions, but as soon as they wont their last benefit and compensation package...I immediately said "well the cars are going to go sky-high to pay for that" and they did. Too much waste and excess in the auto market and something has got to give.

It's a damn shame! First Japan I ever bought was in 1990. I owned a 1980 Volkswagen Rabbit that was a complete bomb. I called it my Wonder Car! Because I literally wondered every time I turned the key if it would start. This was no joke, the damn car stranded me more times than i had fingers and toes. My Dad bless his heart, had mercy and lent me $4000 to buy a 1983 Nissan Sentra. It was love at first drive with that little car, I drove the 5-speed all over Southern Calif with complete reliability. In 200K miles it needed one headlight, a clutch I changed myself, plus a timing belt, preventatively. But that was all. I bought 3 more Nissans, a 1988 Pickup with 4 speed I drove to 250K, a 200SX that was the only dog in the manger that pretty much just sucked, and the last one a 1994 Sentra, equally excellent until my goofy wive totalled it(she didn't get a scratch). Switched to Toyotas after the bad experience with the 200SX, the writing was on the wall after the Renault merger, and very glad I jumped ship when I did. As Nissan has sadly been downgraded again and again, into the junk they are now, for the last two decades.

It's not just the price, they aren't making what folks want...................... and then once you buy something the thing seems to live at the dealer, for the first little while, to get the bugs out of it. So now you (and the bank) kinda own something, and the cost of everything is through the roof, and you don't dare to grow old with this vehicle as the frequency of repair is increasing the older it gets. So you gotta get rid of it before it hits 100,000km (best trade in value) just to start this stupid game all over again. Loose-loose.

You can't cost effectively fix new vehicles there made for the lease market, engine duty cycles on new cars isn't long coupled with built in component obsolescence, after three years and outside of warranty your buying into a financial pit of unforeseen expense. New cars are built for the three year lease market and then scrap them onto private second hand market

Over here in the United Kingdom people are buying motor vehicles that were made up and till the 1990's. Right now on the market, a Volvo 850 with 60k miles on the clock, you could pick up a decent one for £3K and those cars back than were reliable.

Even an Indian working in USA in 90's and early 2000's could buy 4 plots of land in indian Metro cities back then even with 30000$ saving in under 1.5 years. Now it would take 10 years in USA to buy 1 plot of same land in India. Inflation has skyrocket and salary has almost remained the same.

The U.S. is going to be a nation of old cars since the new ones are too expensive with crappy turbo charged engines!
@carljr.99
@carljr.99 2 ай бұрын
Not all turbocharged engines are bad. The main issue, they put small engines in big vehicles, which will strain the engine due to the weight. Ford and General Motors are some main manufacturers pushing this with small engines in giant SUVs and trucks.

You know what my Alberta bro, I used to be exclusively a new car lease type person for 2 or 3 years, and I avoided used cars like the plague. Nowadays, I've totally flipped the script, the main reason being I'm seriously hating all the tech that's crammed onto new vehicles. It's like they're more into creating a tablet / smartphone on wheels, and don't give a crap about the underlying platform (engine, steering, handling). I get it; distract people with blinky tech and they don't notice how crappy the car has become. So now I buy good quality used cars from the era in which the tech was minimal, not much for nannies, knobs and buttons in the dash and in the cabin to access climate controls, and a lot less needless. complexity in the engine bay. I'm really digging older Porsche and Audi products at the moment. They cost a lot to buy in good condition, and they cost a fair bit to keep on the road, but they're actually nice cars to drive, with some fun factor, and they aren't second guessing all your driving decisions while you're on the road.
