That Calsonic R32 to me is definitely a top 5 iconic race car of all time. Despite its rather humble outward appearance, even in modern races and hillclimbs it always earns the 'Godzilla' nickname as it rips across the tarmac.

Just in case there's any cofusion (apologies if you know), the Calsonic-liveried R32 that runs up Goodwood and in historics events in Europe isn't one of Nissan's; it's a bolt-fot-bolt recreation by Ric Wood Motorsport based (I assume) on a road car but so similar to the original that it has a Technical Passport to allow it into historics races. However, at the Goodwood Hillclimb they're probably free to turn the wick up a fair bit... and why not!

Thoroughly enjoyable :) I loved the parts walk around too as I think that's one of the things us non-Japan residents don't get to see - the prices are almost half of what it costs to bring over here. KZbin isn't doing you favours as I've been watching your main channel since it started but I had no idea you had this one as well. The close up shot at 8:53 is the high flow motorsports grade catalytic, basically Super GT doing their "bid" to control emissions. Not sure if there is any info floating on the internet if it actually works or how much though.

Totally agree that it's a shame that they're moving towards featuring more consumer based cars vs enthusiast focused ones, though I understand it from a business perspective. Along that thread, with the financial issues Nissan is facing and the reports of the potential of some sort of merger with Honda, am interested in if you think Nissan may have been more successful focusing harder on enthusiast focused platforms (something along the lines of what Toyota has been doing recently) or if where they're at right now was a bit inevitable? Also, depending on how things go, are you worried that Nissan-focused events such as this one may disappear in the near future or do you think their heritage will carry them regardless?

They should have never turned their backs on enthusiast cars, they just assumed the GTR and Z were going to carry that side of things but they never did. Not building the successor to the Silvia was a monumentally massive error, Toyota at the same time came in and used the 86 to do a proper turn around and show it was ready to focus part of the business on enthusiasts. Nissan, mainly due to Ghosn management, ended up with an uninspiring line up, e-Power cars nobody cares about and a terrible reputation around quality and reliability. Now they have management that’s afraid to make bold moves, always has to appear its doing the best for the shareholders and the result of all this we are seeing now. The company needs a massive shake up, it needs to consolidate the workforce and get rid of dinasaurs that are sucking the money reserves dry from the inside. The main goals should be making cars that’s are interesting to people again, put engineers in charge and hire fresh talent.
