These transmissions have 2 filters in them. One requires dropping the trans pan (not very difficult) and the other is easily accessible by removing the driver side tire. You can do it without tire removal too. I recommend changing those filters.

After re-installing the overflow tube into the drain, DIYers should pour in most of the three new quarts of CVT fluid (2.5 quarts at least) BEFORE starting the engine. Pouring in only one quart before starting the engine (1:25) is incorrect. The CVT should be almost full of new fluid before starting the engine after the old fluid has drained out. Then, slowly pour in the remaining half quart until fluid is seen to drip out of the overflow. CVT fluid level is temperature dependent so don't do the fluid exchange right after a long drive on a hot summer day. It's best to do a simple drain and fill after the car has been sitting for a few hours.

@pauln61504 ай бұрын
FYI. If you go to the dealer they go by the service manual which says to drain the fluid, and remove the overfill tube. Then add 3 +/- quarts, go through the gears, drain it again, reinsert overflow tube, add 3 +/-quarts, go through the gears. Then they check it to see if it "properly filled", so basically at the dealer your paying for 6-7 quarts +/-. It's supposed to get most of the old fluid out. This video shows a short cut getting about half of the old fluid out. Yes the entire system takes 7 quarts for a complete rebuild, but that is not necessary. If you do the method in this video every 20k it should be OK. it's up to you if you want to change all the fluid or some of it and how often. It also depends on how much you love your CVT (Nissan's are junk, I've had problems since 15k). I also have a 2011 subaru CVT with over 100k, never done a thing to it, and it has been rock solid.

Hello, great video. Really appreciate it. It really helped with my 2015 Nissan Sentra. I changed it today. However, I am a little confused on how the whole overflow tube works. Basically, what I did is that when I removed the 19mm drain bolt, about 2 quarts drained out. Then, when I remove the 5mm overflow tube, another 2.3 quarters came out for a total of 3.3 quarts drained. I then put the tube and plug back, and replaced with 3.5 quarts genuine Nissan Transmission CVT oil. I figured I would replace with what came out though I did add an extra 0.2 quarts from what came out. Was this the right way of replacing the fluid? Thank you in advance.

Yeah I would make sure it is by removing the 19mm drain plug again while it’s running and make sure there is oil coming out.
