I have a 2013 Sentra SV with 175,000 miles and I've had most of those problems. Last year I replaced the front shocks and the new ones bang when I accelerate and hit 20 mph. This year around March I had to replace the coils and SPs, then on June I had to replace the starter, then on October I had to replace and reprogram the MAF sensor. But over all it's a good car.

Catalytic Converter! My Nissan Sentra 2015 100k miles was always slow to accelerate, but during a trip in the hills of Pennsylvania it broke. It wouldn't go past 60 MPH. I think it was sold to me with a bad catalytic converter. Here is my story: I had the MAF sensor P0101, changed the sensor. Nothing. Took it to the Nissan dealership, and they wanted to change the Throttle Body Control. I changed it myself. Nothing. I changed the PVC valve even though it was working properly. Nothing. I changed the filter. Nothing. I took it back to the Nissan Dealership and they said "Brake booster." I agreed to pay the $1600 even though I knew damn well it wasn't the brake booster. Then they come back with, "It wasn't the brake booster. But we found out it was the catalytic converter. We took the catalytic converter off, drove around with it, and it works fine. Your catalytic converter melted inside and is restricting the flow of exhaust. So we'll only charge you $2000 for both the brake booster and the catalytic converter."

I had a 91 Nissan Maxima that i bought brand new. My co-worker at the time kept saying Nissans didn't last many miles. That Maxima SE was the one of the smoothest and best driving cars that i have owned, but just as my old co-worker said, when it hit 90,000 miles,it went into self destruct mode. Transmission, oil leaks, electrical problems like windows, transmission interlock, etc, etc. That experience soured my affinity for anything Nissan except the small trucks. Every Mechanic report i have read says they are unreliable and give big problems when they get mileage.

I have a 2014 Sentra. I am always trying to keep up with maintenance on it. I have a lot of service records on it. I had to have it towed to the repair shop several times. First was the PCV valve throwing MAF codes. Car would start and then shut off immediately after. Second was the rear wheel brake cylinders exploded leaving a pool of brake fluid under the car, had no brakes. Had to tow it to the shop in a hurry. The third time what happened was when I got to the shop for routine maintenance, the mechanics found both control arms cracked, had them replaced for $1500. Been in a minor accident twice with this car and total repair bill for this car was over $9000. Aside from other problems like AC completely failing, had to replace an HVAC hose and the compressor for $1350. Both struts and shocks were replaced costing around $1100. New all 4 tires around $750 all season. Needed snows for winter, paid around $900 for 4. Multiple suspension components failing - creaking, clunking, rattling when going over small bumps and potholes. I guess it’s cheap? Uh uh, nope. I am no mechanic, but stuff braking down on this car is unbelievable. Every time transmission fluid is replaced on it, it smells like burnt wires. Have to open windows to let the smell out of the car. When it’s something simple like air filter, I do it myself to save some money, but speaking about the cabin air filter, it is in one of the stupidest places. Its on the left passenger side near the feet, behind the glove box. You basically have to remove the entire glovebox assembly to get access to it. For some simple repairs, I do it myself, with some instructions - replacing the MAF sensor, checking the fluids, replacing the headlight or taillight bulbs, checking tire pressure, changing the air filters, replacing a flat tire… I am also planning to replace the ignition coils on it too in another 10000 miles, on my own. It currently has 110500 miles. I would not recommend owning a Sentra, but it’s just my opinion. If you’re struggling financially like me, get a Toyota Corolla, much better choice, or any other Toyota or Honda. Nissan quality has gone down the drain. I don’t know what happened to them, but they need to return that quality work for cars they make. Because personally, I don’t want to see another Nissan again, until they bring that back.

ALSO, if the Sentra won't go past 40 mph or it seems like you have reduced acceleration (with the exterior lights switch to on) check the taillight assembly for moisture accumulating along the inside! If so, you are going to need to replace the entire assembly to correct this issue. From what I was told, it shorts out the LED panel which misleads the computer in translation that the brakes are being applied while accelerating which why you have reduced power. I found this to be TRUE! I replaced my rear passenger assembly and I haven't had any issues since. . .I also believe NISSAN was cognitive of this because the next model that came out (along with the Altima) no longer have LED taillight assemblys.

I just looked into this problem for my vehicle (2015 Nissan Sentra S), and you were right. My right tail light had moisture, I unplugged it, and it solved the acceleration issue. Thanks for the advice because I was having trouble finding out why my car would not accelerate quickly when my headlights were on.

Reading a lot of the comments, I must be extremely lucky. i have a 2016 nissan sentra SV that i bought at 40k almost 5 years ago, now at 123k miles. It has been incredibly reliable, and has not been trouble at all. Struts finally went out(damn small town railroad tracks with deceptively large bumps leading to the tracks), but other than changing the brake pads and routine engine oil changes, nothing has failed me yet. The transmission seems to not wanna catch right away anymore when coming to stop signs and rolling off, but reverse and everything else are still tight, i just slowly apply the accelerator when coming out of stop which seems to help slow whatever degradation that is happening in the cvt til i can afford to do something about it. I must have the miracle sentra, considering the apparent nightmares other people seem to have with theirs. i guess morale of the story is, its not a hot rod, and treating it like such will be your own downfall.

I got lucky with my 2013 Nissan Sentra. The CVT Transmission went out at 70,000 miles and they wanted $4800 for it. They said they would go in half with me to replace it. I found out there was a class action lawsuit and ended up getting into it and got my money back.

@gianfrancoa4 жыл бұрын
Nissan recommends 60k mile Interval to replace the transmission oil, if you wait that much the transmission won't make it to the second oil change. I'd do every 20k mile. In addition of install an additional cooler for the cvt.

Lol hahaha the car barely has any miles on it lol reply back at 115,000 miles when your CVT transmission fails; then you join the class action lawsuit against Nissian trying to get them to replace the trans. If they don't its about $4,300 and only a 12 month 12,000 miles lol

The only problem is the Nissan Front-Wheel Drive Transmission. Do not buy any Nissan with a CVT. Last November, Nissan admitted in court that their Jatco CVTs are defective! And they are still using the same defective design for all of their CVTs. DO NOT BUY ANY NISSAN WITH A JATCO CVT! You have been warned!

I didn’t read this in the manual but I’ve just kind of felt it intuitively? Lol but I don’t like to push my car too hard on the rpms and can’t stand I just cringe when anyone else drives my car because they allllll hit 4k when initially accelerating and it’s just so unnecessary. Drives me nuts

Good day, I own a 2018 Nissan Sentra (Thailand) with over 227,000 km on with minor wear and tear issues. The vehicle is regularly maintained and serviced. However, I would like to know if there is a manual transmission for this particular model of Sentras as I don't want to encounter the common CVT transmission issue seen on KZbin videos.

Bought my 2015 Nissan Sentra brand new. Around 30k miles car would jerk and shake a bit during acceleration and if I hit 80 mph on the freeway the RPM’s would go up and down. Pretty scary. I had the transmission fluid entirely changed at 60k miles and all the problems went away. I’m at 100k miles now and I have a motor boat sound in the front now that gets loud at 30 mph up to 60 mph. Some are telling me it’s a leaking exhaust or flex pipe and others telling me could be the trans again.

My Church just "Gifted" me a 2018 Nissan Sentra SV, 1.8L 4cyl., at our Christmas Service on the Dec. 3rd; how cool is that, right!!! WOW! I went from a Grandma Dodge Grand Caravan(2005) to this! Quite the difference in the "drive!"...lol...I DO have an "OLD" Racing Background and typically like to "tinker"; change my own Oil, etc. Probably NOT this car; I'm used to working on OLD Race Cars; Camaro's, Chevelle's, etc....so, I "understand" quite a few things when it comes to cars; but not so much with these newer models; I know my Dodge WELL; mainly because of KZbin and "experience" in fixing it or mostly having "someone" else Professional, fix it; I'm clueless when it comes to this Nissan; I took it to the local dealership and all's they wanted from me was a total of $775.00 for all this "preventative" maintenance for it; I just smiled and then left. I didn't want to be rude, but NO WAY! LOL....just because I'm an old Granny doesn't mean I'm stupid; ....the car "does" have some issues I'm concerned about; one is the transmission. It "surges" sometimes, meaning, the RPM's have shot WAY up as I was just puttin along at 10-15mph....I pulled into a business parking lot, pressed HARD on the Brake, put it in Park; then put it back down into Drive; it hasn't done that since; not sure what that was all about but the trans slips alot; I went into Advanced Auto and the "seasoned" Gentleman told me to buy some Lucas No Slip fluid; he says it helps alot of cars with that stuff; I use Lucas Oil when I change my Oil in my Van, so I'm already a FAN of the Products....I've not heard of this "slip" stuff before, tho.....any advice for this old lady?

I’m having an issue that sounds similar to the ctv portion of your video. Around 40-50, it will stop accelerating and cruise, but the rpms will continue to go up even too red line with no speed increase. Could that be the CVT transmission? I’ve read as well about possibly the ctv idle air sensor causing this problem as well.
@jacobsoronen3 жыл бұрын
I've had this problem since I've owned my sentra. If I'm going up and down on a hilly road, or interstate. My car will randomly loose power, and I'll have to floor it to accelerate.. it will also be almost 700 rpms higher to maintain the same speed it was just doing. Then an hour or so, it will fix itself. Worst road trip car ever

2015 Sentra bought new: 30K - transmission replaced (under warranty). Would fail to go above 40mph. Happened to me on the highway. NOT SAFE. 40K - Airfilter and intake vibration 50K - Air Compressor failed 70K - EVAP issues. Tube coming out of fuel tank leaking, mpg went down a lot. Replaced gas cap and then it was still complaining after that. Always taken to dealership and maintained as suggested. Shittiest car ever.

I totally regret buying my 2017 Sentra. The transmission started failing a little after 100K miles. Nissan refused to give me a new transmission. Two Nissan dealers near me confirmed that the transmission was failing and quoted me $4,450 for replacing. I’m mad as hell. I’ll never buy another Nissan and I tell everyone I know to never buy one. I should have bought a Corolla instead as I was initially planning to do.
