Nissan Serena S-Hybrid C26- Auxillary Battery Replacement

The Nissan Serena S-Hybrid C26 has two batteries. One main and one auxillary. The auxillary battery basically runs the aircond, accessories and start/stop function. You would think that having two batteries would be like having some kind of back up plan should one of them died. Unfortunately both batteries need to be working for the car to start.
The worst time to have your battery die on you is during the middle movement control order when all car workshop is closed. I called Nissan service centre and they are only(probably) gonna be opened in 2 weeks time.
So I bought the battery online and install it myself. This video chronicles how I do it.

This is fantastic. I have purchased a serena 2011 and test drive was fine . When I collected the van the auto light was blinking . One sales man said it would go away . Bad man . This gives me power over them ....

first we got to jumper the old accu with other accu , plus to plus , minus to minus. the function is to maintain the voltage still on 12 volt dc if the voltage drop to zero then will reset the memory inside, after that we change the old one with the new one, then we may take away the jumper . so we no need go to service center anymore.

saya bukan seorang mekanik. jadi knowledge saya ni agak terbatas, mostly semuanya dari pembacaan dan pengalaman saya dengan kereta saya sendiri(serena model c26). Anyway, seperti mana tuan maklum, serena s hybrid c26 ni ada dua batteri, satu yg utama dan satu yg aux. kedua2 ni ikutnya depa suruh pakai enhanced flood battery(efb) bukan yg biasa. kalau ikut kata nissan, main battery ni yg digunakan untuk hidupkan engine, dan aux battery ni untuk membekalkan sistem electric lain dalam kereta, eg radio, aircond dsb. Main battery ni yg connected to alternator, so alternator ni akan charge main battery dan aux battery akan dpt power dari main battery. kalau ikutnya, aux ni sepatutnya battery yg jenis deep cycle battery(maksudnya batteri yg boleh discharge sampai hampir habis dan recharge balik) sebab dia bukan continuously charged by alternator masa engine hidup. anyway, menjawab soalan, kalau pakai battery yg tak cukup capacity ie 50b20l (dari kilang sepatutnya 55b20l), 50 tu merujuk kepada cranking power dan capacity, tapi ranking system battery ni pun pada saya sgt confusing. byk sgt standardnya. sebab mcm dia lain2 utk jenis battery lain2. so far rasanya tak de satu standard yg semua org pakai dan seragam di Malaysia ni😭 so far, sebab bila bercerita pasal efb(enhanced flooded battery) atau battery yg biasa pakai utk kereta yg ada start stop ni, rating yg saya rasa lebih reliable ada s95 utk main, dan m42 utk aux battery. sebab bila kita dok pakai 55b20l kita dok igt capacity is 55ah, tapi sebenarnya around 42ah je. so ada kemungkinan kalau capacity tak cukup untuk support sistem elektrik kereta, kadar discharge dia lebih cepat dari kadar charge dia dan mungkin menyebabkan hayat battery lebih pendek. with regards to alternator voltage, saya pernah check kat nissan service center, utk serena voltage masa engine around 13v adalah normal(sebab masa tukar battery, mekanik kedai luar tu kata kalau engine hidup voltage should be around 14v). saya tak pasti sama ada ini unik kepada serena or sama ada saya kena kelentong dgn service center. ha ha.😅 semoga membantu.

Hi My 2013 Hybrid Serena is going through the exact same problem Did you use a AGM Start/Stop battery or a regular battery?

How do you reset and get rid of the intelligent key icon after the battery change?

you can try the reset ecu method by pressing the brake and gas pedals. exact sequence linked below. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKuXdquvgqZ-prM however, when I tried it, it doesn't work for me. I just went to the service centre and get them to do it for me. it takes less than 10 minutes and they charged me rm30(around 7 usd). hope it helps😅

Can I use a M42 Varta battery .. it is rated at 60 AH instead of 55AH for the Hella battery used

hi. thanks for watching. it should be ok. as long as the difference is within 10% usually is no issue. besides having a higher capacity battery usually doesn't cause so much problem as having a lower capacity one. as long as the battery physically can fit then it should be ok.

@@masterofnone4608 I replaced the auxilliary battery with a Varta M42 60Ah for rm 290 .. analyses the old battery .. it was not an EFB battery and .. an ordinary 35 Ah battery made in China .. surprise that it last and work for the last 2 yrs

ada possibility mungkin bateri besar pun dah dalam perjalanan pergi😅 tapi kalau baru sgt tukar, kadang beberapa hari juga/kena drive lama baru auto start stop dia function balik. maybe utk bateri fully recharge.

Greetings from Georgia, I’ve bought C26 and Auto sign has been blinking from about a month now. I went to one of the best tech center and they can’t find what’s the fault. My car doesn’t go on Hybrid mode when stop at red lights or any stop. After watching your video carefully I strongly believe that this could be the issue. Should I buy and replace the auxiliary battery without a doubt? Because only auto sign is blinking but no key sign. Could you give me any suggestions? Thankful

hi thanks for watching. that sounds like what happened to my car before the auxillary battery give way. by the time the key light start showing up, the battery died within a week or so. I'm not sure where you are but the Nissan service center that I go to usually can check the status of battery whether need replacing or not. and if your battery is 1-1 1/2 years old it's probably need replacing. However, If I were you I'd probably just buy the new battery and keep it nearby in case the battery do give way and I can just replace it. hope this helps.

But that auto light is still on blinking, it’s kind of frustrating because car doesn’t go on hybrid mode at all. I guess Alternator doesn’t charge the battery. Or I have no idea what’s going on. I did go to Nissan center and they don’t check Right side steering cars (from Japan).

@@98004ajay high I also have that challenge I changed the battery but the start /stop sign is keeping on blinking and it's not making the hybrid part it is consuming lot of fuel I'm not enjoying it anymore please help

@@benjaminmujajati5078 Serena is such amazing minivan. I sold that one which I had problem with. Light kept on blinking on and off. Even sometimes it shows Red danger sign of engine problem, sometimes radiator failure sign, however, when I go to mechanic, they say everything is fine! I was so tired of all this. So I sell it with a little loss and bought another.

@@jamesryan2720 kedai jump dulu before cabut bateri and cabut masa engine running supaya jam/radio tak hilang settings. dlm kes kereta saya ini, actually saya dah jump and engine is running before saya cabut bateri(rasa ada mention). tapi kalau tak jump pun what will happen adalah settings utk jam/radio je yg hilang and kena set balik. should not cause any harm.
