Doing the same job next week when the parts finally arrive from ebay, switching out both the cam and the crankshaft sensors, Cam is easy but struggling to get access to the crank sensor, your video has helped alot, thank you

finally got the job done, Cam sensor, 90 seconds, crank sensor 90 mins, hardest part is pulling the sensor, recommend needle nose vice grips, lock on and wiggle until it finally releases, not a comfortable job but beats paying hundreds of $$ paying a mechanic to do it

It gets better with practice, LOL! I did my 2005 XTrail crank sensor when I first got it in 2015. Now doing it again and hoping it's the fix for my hard starting. Fuel and spark are there, but likely disorganized by a bad sensor...) 405K km on this beauty, with original motor and automatic tranny. I found it's easier to remove the mass flow sensor, to get a better visual and a bit better arm access. Leave the air cleaner base alone. Just pull back the filter top housing and air feed. I disconnect the cable when the sensor is out. Easier - but not easy. If you can't finger-squeeze the release, use a long screwdriver to press the release while gently pulling the old sensor out. Update: I had trouble getting enough twist and push on the new sensor - but I was being interfered by the annoying bracket on the back of the motor, that supports a few heater hoses. There's a 14 mm bolt that is easily accessed. Get that bracket out of the way and you will get a little better access to the sensor location. Belly on the fender and feet in the air... and I got the right twist and push on the sensor to get it in place. Here's hoping it solves my troubles. Further update: no joy. :( I have spark and plenty of fuel - but it makes a few attempts to catch and just goes back to futile cranking. Pull the plugs and they're soaked in fuel. Used my air compressor to totally dry out the chambers... and back to a few pops before going back to grinding it out.) Later... Ultimate fix: I read elsewhere that you can try starting with ONLY the camshaft position sensor disconnected, as the crankshaft sensor is THE sensor needed at starting. (I'm guessing the computer needed some time to reacquaint with the new part?) This worked like a charm, then I plugged in the cam sensor and things have continued working fine this week. At 405,000 km, I'm sure there will be other issues popping up. Glad I have a fairly simple vehicle to work on.

@@barrystewart3950 Hi I had similar issues 2004 model, it was faulty O2 sensor. Have you checked for fault code?
@barrystewart395010 ай бұрын
@@concernedcitizen3159 Thanks. I've updated my situation (above), as I'm up and running again. I saw elsewhere to try disconnecting the cam sensor before starting with a new crank sensor. This worked brilliantly, then I reconnected the cam sensor and it's happy-ish. Either the catalytic converter or the resonator (or both) are making an awful buzzy/rattly noise when cold, so that's my next issue.

Thanks for sharing! Hopefully never have to do this on my T30 (2006), but now I know what to do thanks to you. Looks like a PITA, patience required :-)

I had this componet fail on my X terra. It started acting up with odd engine running characteristics until the engine just stopped. You could start it up again but it would happen again. No service engine light was illuminated but the shop got a pending code. Still have the original cam sensors in the 2009 X. Nice to know that the cam sensor and crank sensors are identical.

Last night I replaced both the crank and camshaft sensors on my T30 (2008) What no one tells you is how extremely difficult it is to remove the faulty sensors. The o ring sucks to the body and it was a real struggle to pull it out especially the crank sensor. Also. The car didnt want to start the first two times. It did start on the third try after leaving it for a few mintues. I guess the ECU had to its thing first.

Oem sensor or aftermarket? If i install aftermarket will it be ok or only original sensor from the dealer?
@rudijones Жыл бұрын
Either one is fine. I used aftermarket
@barrystewart395011 ай бұрын
For the camshaft sensor, which is SO easy to do, I'd gamble on the aftermarket. The crankshaft sensor is a pain, though, so I'd say seek out the best of aftermarket - or from the dealer.

Hi I’m a new subscriber as of today. You were very helpful when putting in my blower motor today. Im having a problem installing the new sensor. It seems floppy in the hole it came out of. Im wondering if it’s not fully seated being it’s a cold day and the o ring may not be letting it seat. It seems fully seated and I was going to try and use the bolt to seat it the remainder of the way. It’s getting dark and I’ve called it a day.

It's worse when you get a cheapo sensor and have to do it again after paying out again for a genuine part. I'm not confident the pin out is the same, earth and signal reversed?.
