Had to look up the video again on my phone just to drop my comment. So far this is the best video or info out there on how to Install the Flywheel the correct the way, im a certified tech and even I was having a hard time finding this info on the web and am talking about the dowel pin alignment.. thanks alot sr God bless

Thanks so much pulled flywheel off and seen ring after putting the bushing in and went crap thought I was going to have to put top dead center and go thru a lot of bs but you sir are my hero

Thanks for this video. Had by '09 frontier 4x4 clutch replaced just before hitting 100k. The shop that did it, AAMCO, did a terrible job because they failed to line the fly wheel up so the timing was off and truck wouldn't start after they put everything back together. Charged me $250 for a fly wheel resurfacing, and over $600 for a new clutch. total job was a little over $2,000. Not to mention they damaged my undercarriage and tore up my exhaust heat shields that made an awful rattle noise that I had them removed. Wish I had to tools to do it myself so I could pay careful attention to detail because I am very particular about the way it drives. As time progressed I've noticed the clutch is unforgiving in 1st gear... meaning no matter how hard I try, I can not seem to get a sooth acceleration of the clutch. I also smell a lot more burned clutch smell than I did with my old one. Im afraid they did not even resurface it.

Sorry to hear about your poor experience. So did they end up having to do the clutch twice since that's why we wasn't lined up?

I could never do this myself, but I have a great mechanic that gives me every detail about the repair and I like to know what he's talking about. I need a new clutch and he explained the job at length before ordering the parts so I came here to educate myself. Excellent video. Thank you. My 2013 Xterra clutch is slipping after only 50K miles. Do you have a lot of experience with these? Is that common...?

Yeah this is definitely a tough job to do on your own in the driveway. On a Lyft makes it much easier. 50k sounds a little bit light but it all depends on driving conditions clutch habits. In my opinion, this clutch is little bit undersized for the Nissan 4.0. That engine has some balls

Great vid. Have my truck in the shop and they didn't line up the flywheel correctly so the truck wouldn't run right. They're taking it apart to fix it tomorrow. Could there be any damage from the incorrect install. Thanks

Sorry to hear that and thanks for dropping a comment. No nothing would really be damaged. Just have to line about properly and then she'll purr like a kitten again. Let me know how you make out. Such a stupid design that they made it this way imo. Seeing as how the flywheel have to be timed, you should only be able to put it on one way

Thank you very much. I am getting ready to replace the clutch on my 2011 Frontier. Quick question: with tilting the engine trick, were you able to reach all bellhousing bolts from the back (didn't need to reach from under the hood) ? Thanks in advance!

No problem! And yes I was able to get all of the bellhousing bolts from the back with a long extension and swivel socket. Good luck on the job! You watched the part about properly timing the flywheel right? That's the most important part

​@@NoNonsenseKnowHow Hey man! I definitely paid attention about the timed flywheel. I've run into trouble: I just completed the job. When I start the engine, I get severe vibration similar to engine running on 5 cylinders. The vibration doesn't depend on clutch being engaged, disengaged, whether I am in gear or not. The new clutch works well - it bites well, the car accelerates normally (so it is running on all 6) but the vibration persists through RPM range. I am guessing something is very wrong with the flywheel? I had the original flywheel resurfaced. My plan is to pull the transmission back out and try starting the engine without the transmission, then remove clutch and pressure plate and try again... Any expert thoughts would be much appreciated!

Damn. I'm sorry to hear you're having troubles with it. You 100% marked the flywheel to crank before taking it off? Yeah your attack plan sounds pretty good as far as taking the trans back out and checking everything. Let me know how you make out and good luck

I'm not surprised to hear that you can't find a spec for the clutch cover because I'm not sure which part that is to be honest. Are you referring to the pressure plate that bolts to the flywheel? Or the bell housing?

Doesnt that PLAY in the clutch protect the engine because it absorbs the vibrations in the drivetrain that would otherwise make their way into the engine???

Well I suppose it really goes both ways. It also protects the Driveline from somebody snapping off the clutch. I'm not a fan of dual Mass flywheel as though. They get worn out over time and can fail. Also don't like the feel while driving one

Yeah definitely underpaid for sure! And seriously, tell me about it. A timed flywheel that can easily be put on wrong. Most flywheels have specific bolt patterns where you couldn't possibly put them on wrong.
