Fam, I'm not looking for another rhythm game. I want to run around and fight things. Hi Wuthering Waves fans! Just want to let you know that being weirdly rude and aggressive in my comment section ISN'T actually gonna make me check out the game! I was actually thinking about giving it a try once it comes out, but you all prove that the fanbase, and game, aren't worth my time. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Being rude to others isn't how you get them to play your game. And yes, it's still a genshin clone, even though the colors or desaturated. Sorry, but it's true 🙃

Your argument is the real-life equivalent of bringing your friends to a restaurant with no vegan options and when your vegan friends say they're uncomfortable you tell them "you can always eat at home" which is obviously NOT THE SAME THING, LIKE AT ALL. Telling people to go to Tears of Themis is sad because you're reducing the game to a "crybaby zone" and because Mihoyo CAN make good male characters, and making genshin cool for everyone, particularly those who find men attractive isn't really betraying anyone. Same as adding a vegan option to your restaurant menu. Except you don't only add one to make any vegan customers happy. You add more because it doesn't cost you anything, really.

As one of the "audience who's attracted to women", I too am annoyed about the waifu only casts. Sometimes, boys want to play as guys too. Sometimes, we don't care about the gender, but are tired of seeing the 100th waifu with quirky personality in a row. They all start to blend together at some point.

In WW you litteraly have as a starter pack now 9 women for 7 men for 2 childs. Its more balance than genshin with litteraly 3 husbandos who were introduce as new character. @@Chadedit55 They still have more women, and I mean a lot more women, and male characters very rarely get costumes where as female characters get them pretty much every patch. Almost all of the "best teams", the meta (which is really important in this game, you probably won't clear content without the so called best teams) have no male characters in them, with only one of them, the fire team, relying on the new Lee S rank. But even then he might get replaced anytime. Most male characters are A ranks which are simply budget replacements and as such, liablities. Lee, a fan favorite character, has two "characters" to his name at launch. No new ones since then, until they released one where he's just a normal, vanilla "husbando" all smiley and that. The other two protagonists? They're female, and one of them is on the 5th one I think? 4th or 5th. The other is probably on the 3rd or 4th. And skins, the skins... So many skins for female characters, and for Wanshi all you get is a police costume. You can go to the gray ravens website (that's the site's name) and it'll show you all characters. There is some variety, more so than in other gacha games, but most characters you see are below useless in current content. They're releasing a very anticipated buff male character called Noctis in the chinese server, but he's an A rank and as such probably dead on arrival. Wanshi is another popular male character which will be made useless once his replacement (a replacement with bigger assets, skins, numbers, you know the drill) called Alya arrives. I'm pretty sure all somewhat old female characters got their S "characters" eventually but Wanshi was just left on the dust, same with Changyu.

Its quite rare for girls to like fast paced combat games so i think thats what they are thinking. At least it has male characters rather than Honkai who has no playable male character at all

What peeves me the most is how Hoyo shows they CAN make attractive and diverse body types, make them function as appealing characters in the overworld, and still reuse the same 5 models and animation cycles they have been using since CBT. Why can't we get the Eremite bodytypes? It just comes off as lazy devs. At this point, the only thing I'm looking forward to are the interesting battle choreographies each character has in their attacks because that's all the uniqueness they have to offer. Even in teasers and leaks, I can tell how a character will walk and move overall simply because their height and gender will determine which of the 5 bodytypes Hoyo will shove onto them. 💀

These games aren't "clones" they are just in the same genre of open world, action combat, gacha. If you actually took time to see these games for what they are you would see all the differences in these games. For example Tower of Fantasy has alot of MMO elements. Wuthering waves is focusing alot more on having a deep combat system, closer to things like Devil may cry and Nier Automata. Wuthering has also already shown off some very attractive men, from a young and handsome guy using a spear, to an old silver fox who will punch you alot, and some others. Also how is Higan a "Genshin clone"? Its a turn based game, not a open world action game. Saying "oh because it looks like anime" isnt really good enough. It's also very hypocritical for you to say some fans being angry is gonna turn you off from these games (pinned comment) when in you're video you are being extremely rude to the developers of ToF, WuWa, Higan, and Genshin, saying that all of them are just uninspired clones. Honestly I agree with what you said about guys in these games often being way less interesting then the girls. But just screaming into the void calling all of these developers lazy and just stealing ideas from others isnt really gonna change anything. Genshin, tof, WW, has a distinctive difference in terms of character design lmao, especially genshin and tof since I play both of them. Genshin model is very obviously more rounded, cartoonish and childish, whereas ToF has more mature design. And moreover ironically genshin is the one that don't have the due diligence to make every character has their own figure, instead they use the same three model figure (loli, teenage, adult) for every characters lmao.

Wuthering Wave's CBT live test literally sidelined the waifus and showcased an array of very interesting, very handsome, and diverse male characters. They have a great track record of releasing a lot of well-written, beautiful male characters that take the spotlight just as much as the female characters do. What are you even on about? Also, being passive-aggressive in your pinned comment does nothing but showcase how ill-informed you are about the game you're supposedly critiquing. Being an open-world, anime-style gacha does not immediately turn a game into "a Genshin clone." Genshin didn't invent the concept of open-world, anime-style RPG gaming, and pretending as such is willfully ignorant at the very least. You do make some valid points, but it's very clear that you lack information that you didn't bother to go looking for in order to make this video more credible. And for the record, Punishing Gray Raven, Kuro's other game that shares the same vibe, artstyle, and color palette as Wuthering Waves (meaning, these devs have showcased a pattern/preference when it comes to atmosphere, art, color palette, general vibe), was released in China in 2019, a whole year before Genshin was launched. Leaving snide comments toward people who call you out on your lack of knowledge is not a good look.

Just to put a fine point on this, even to laypeople just looking at Genshin and Wuthering Waves, the games' art styles do not even look similar to each other. Completely different color palettes and textures aside, one has a very round aesthetic while the other has a sharp and angular one. They're blatantly distinct at a glance, obviously due to one borrowing from the harshly sharp designs of PGR and the other compressing the long noodly models of HI3. And that difference in appearance is a recurring argument within the Genshin community for why some are not interested in Wuthering Waves. The clone remarks from players and journalists exclusively stems from both games being open world action games with climbing and gliding systems. And while I agree that it's an extremely reductive assessment due to the games having entirely different combat systems, gameplay mechanics, and design outcomes, that take is at least rooted in some empirically observable reality. Saying one is a clone of the other based on their looks is just absurd. Aside: the male character complaint is indeed ridiculous as well. While it's definitely true of most gachas, WW is possibly the worst example she could've pointed to as (so far) it literally has a 50/50 M/F split with tall, full-bodied men making up the entirety of the male half. Definitely should've used something like HI3, E7, or AL for that one.

Hi Twiins iink! There are a lot of open-world gacha games coming out now. But I do think WuWa is trying to do things differently. (Sorry this is going to be a long post) We won’t know what Wuthering Waves will be like until it gets past the beta stage and actually releases. But from the CBT preview stream (not the trailer) Kuro has stated what will be in the game. -The darker themes mentioned aren’t about the desaturation of the world (that’s caused by it being post-apocalyptic) but the story. Like Danjin who has dissociative identity disorder. I have faith that they can handle darker story telling well because “Punishing: Gray Raven” has already done so. Things like suicide, death, survivor’s guilt, etc. -Echo Collection, which allows you to collect and use the enemies you defeat in combat and traveling. -The combat is going to be more like PGR but just not as malding. With parrying, and perfect dodge mechanics. -Kuro also doesn’t shy away from making actual male characters with well-written stories and move sets. One reason why I picked up PGR. In WuWa, I am really looking forward to the an older man in blue with actual facial hair! The thing I still think games need to work on is the different body types for female characters. Kuro has different male bodies, ranging from skinny to muscular and so ons but it’s like girls can’t!? Unfortunately I can’t link the WuWa CBT stream because I can’t find it, I can only find vids of people reacting to it on YT. But if you’d like, check it out. I’m sorry for all the discourse, it is everywhere it seems. People get really offended when things are compared to Genshin. And then there are people from Genshin that call other things copycats so there’s just a lot of arguing. I wish others could relax and just enjoy their games or both! Why not have the best of “all” worlds? I’m just excited because I really do love Kuro Game and am hoping WuWa will stand on its own, but only time will tell. P.S.-I’m serious, the male characters in PGR are awesome. ❤ Edit: How do you feel about that RWBY x Justice League crossover movie? I love DC and like RWBY but it just feels weird to me. Yeah, like why don't they think darker skins tones, real muscle, facial hairs, and scars won't sell? I play Genshin, and the 2 people I find the most attractive are Kaeya and Dehya. Both of which have dark skin, Kaeya lost an eye so that sort of counts as a scar, and I would be even more attracted to Dehya if she had muscles(and I mean I think we can all agree she should have them anyway. Also I think it would work for her to have scars too). They need to realize that the typical anime beauty standards aren't the ONLY thing people are into

This is one of the few videos of yours where I don’t exactly agree with your takes. Which is fine since you encourage discourse and differing opinions. But for this video it feels overly dismissive of similar games to Genshin and assumes the position that Genshin was the progenitor of its iconic gameplay features when it just popularized them, not created them. As someone excited for Wuthering Waves, it left a sour taste in my mouth when you called it a Genshin clone. Of course Genshin proved that this genre of gaming is a lucrative and viable market, but I wouldn’t leave it at just a clone. In fact Genshin got a lot of attention AND flack for being “anime breath of the wild”. Just because there are similar elements doesn’t make it a clone imo. Genshin was released during the pandemic, meaning people were at home doing nothing and Genshin had tons of content to do. It also panders more to a casual playerbase, which enhances its popularity. Its combat system is very simple to understand: spam elements to create reactions to make big numbers. Characters with shields, particularly Zhongli, invalidate any danger enemies present because shields both absorb damage and prevent knockdown. Even with the release of enemies designed to bypass shields, you can still invalidate them by spamming damage and reactions. Wuthering Waves from its prereleases content is already proving itself to be significantly different than Genshin in game design. Exploration may be similar, that I can agree with, but its combat is wildly different. WW also uses elemental reactions, but from what we’ve been shown they are not meant to dominate the enemy so fast they can’t react, but moreso rewarding player decisions to benefit their play styles. They’ve yet to officially release what reactions do what, but that’s what I’ve been able to glean from the gameplay that’s been shown. The combat is also significantly more dynamic with the use of Echo’s which is basically transforming into your Pokémon, enemies being much more active and harder to dodge, and for now the absence of shields. WW’s developer’s other game title Punishing: Gray Raven has shields, but they only exist to absorb damage and do not allow the player to skip dodging entirely, as you can get oneshot even with a shield or punished for not dodging. PGR also has mechanics like parrying enemy attacks and Matrix, which functions identically to Bayonetta’s Witch Time, both rewarding the player for dodging at the right time. Perfect Dodge rewarding is something WW has too while Genshin does not. Now I know your video was mainly about anime gacha game design overall, which I agree is problematic. The overrepresentation of female characters in these games can be annoying, but in recent years more male characters have not only been released but also become meta dominant in these games. Of course the ratio is still abysmal, but you have characters like Arknights’ Mlynar who is both male and the most broken burst physical damage dealer in the current game. In PGR’s CN server, Noctis is getting a lot of hype for being both a muscular male character and also his incredibly fun and engaging gameplay. I may be a PGR shill, but I have to say PGR’s male:female playable character ratio is rather balanced as far as gacha games go. There’s even physical male fanservice for them with Entropy Lee’s wetsuit and Crocotta Camu’s boob window part of his base design.

Good evening, first let me say that I understand your point and mostly agree with you. But, I want to see how Weathering Wave’s plays out in this discussion when it’s actually released. As Punishing Gray Raven’s player the ratio is about 70/30 female to male, BUT the women an PGR are mostly not sexualized and aren’t the cute and dainty girls either. They are strong female characters and are designed and written to be. Kuro games dose a good job designing their male characters in PGR and so far they’ve shown 3 male characters that look cool in Weathering Wave’s. But we shall see, who knows maybe Kuro games will do what you’re asking for with the male to female ratio, as far as design’s outside of an open world they’ve already done that with its theme which is more like Nier than Genshin. Completely disagree with the Wuthering Waves take, the game is not just a Genshin clone like Genshin is not just a BOTW clone. Already the atmosphere it's completely different with a post apocalyptic, depressive world besides it's 16+ so expect more mature things like Elden Ring for example. No to talk about the combat, completely different and require a high skill(dodge, parry) with enemies that actually fight you. WW definitely will have it's fanbase because it has strong aspects that make it unique. And it seems you didn't check the males in WW, because there are already 4 playable in the beta which is pretty good.

Ok, let's all sit down and I'll try and be as fair as possible 1. The term is not "Genshin-like" or "Genshin clone", it's open-world. Genshin is not the pioneer of open-world games. 2. Yes, the combat of ToF, Wuthering and Genshin all look similar, they don't flat out just look like blatant copies. ToF can interact with certain bosses (such as mount on them to deal some free DMG), Wuthering has fast-paced combat and the ability to summon enemies you've defeated, and of course, they all have their super/ultimate moves. It's open-world, and regardless of the engine used, it's very hard to try and make the combat not too similar and thus boils down to the character, their weapon, the idea behind their weapon (like for example, Annabella and Chixia/Red-haired Wuthering Girl if you don't know) and their unique trait. 3. As of now, Wuthering's gacha system (pity, amount of currency needed to make a pull, and rates) are not known. ToF's 80 pulls 100% pity and Genshin's 80-something pulls with 50/50 are the only things we can work with here. In my opinion, ToF has a slightly better gacha system since I never liked the idea of finally reaching pity only to not get the debut character (i.e. you pull for Haitham for example and got yet another Jean). I'll leave this discussion at that since everyone has different views and opinions on both games' gachas. 4. Lastly, the colors. ToF and Genshin have a very similar coloring to them, though you can choose a filter in ToF. Wuthering is muted colors; a thing most people seem to have a gripe over when, in my opinion, it's like that because it reflects how its world is f*cked, and it wouldn't make sense for everything to be cheerful and saturated when a devastating event (on the level of the Cataclysm, to give you an idea) has just happened, and that's not like 6 millennia ago, perhaps around just a few years or even months ago. ToF and Genshin's colorings are similar since they are set in worlds that have sort of recovered from a very life-changing event (ToF's Omnium Explosion from 50 years ago and Genshin's Cataclysm from 500 years ago). All worlds have gone through an event that has altered the landscape, and the event itself decides what will happen. For example, ToF's world has enough time in 50 years to make suppressants so the remaining humans won't turn into Aberrants (Human-zombies with Omnium, basically), and Genshin's world has seen changes in their Archon lineup (5 out of the OG Archons are ded and have been replaced, but by now, it's only 4 since it's not believed Nahida is the original Sumeru Archon), the establishment of the Fatui, the yakshas being summoned and dying one by one over the years, and Ei making Scaramouche... who ultimately joins the Fatui until defecting in present times, then becoming the Wanderer after a ton of drama action in Sumeru. The color and tone of a game has to be connected to the lore, especially if it involves something like Cataclysm: how deadly was the event? how did the humans of that specific world found a solution? and lastly, how long did it take for society to recover? The last question is dependent on the impact and scaling of the event, and the consequences it leaves behind to be answered. I'll make it clear here; ALL games are worth the shot... except those cringey ones we see in ads most of the time. Just give me male characters, an interesting world to explore, interesting lore, and DRIP, I won't mind it. As long as I see effort in making the game, the devs being competent and apologizing if something like s login issue happens and so on, I will still play the game regardless, especially if I'm hooked on the story.

That’s why I loved the Sumeru arc in Genshin. The main cast was primarily men this time. The head of state is a man and the god of sumeru is not a waifu (anymore) it was so refreshing and while yes we did have Dehya she was not as much in the spotlight as Cyno, AlHaitham, Wanderer and Nahida were. I think the big problem is these games try to be "original", as in not from an established franchise. Alot of anime looking games come from an established anime that tend to have a dominantly male cast. My guess too is just data cos even amine games with female dominant cast, tend to sell better to male audience for type of game they making. My guess is if they made a non pre established male dominated game, they feel it would not sell to well. One of the things you mentioned they'd have to do is put effort into it and think they are just trying to make a quick and easy buck, by following in coat tails of what's popular. The fact that they all sicfi shows how much effort they went to, to not be label a genshin clone. " ok how do we copy ghenshin, with out it looking like we copying genshin?" " well genshin is fantasy, so we'll be a sicfi!" And think there are by using your 4 girls to 1 boy character ratio, there are likely 4 players that like girls to every player that likes boys. Since they ultimately just want money they going to go with safer bet of 4 potential whales than 1. I don't think it's impossible, but to have game you want you need a development group that has same interests and wants to do it more for the art than the money. That’s just an Ill interpretation of how they works. Kuro is not copying Genshin, their main inspiration has always been fast paced action apocalyptic games like DMC, Bayonetta, NieR and recently Death Stranding. You can see a lot of references to those games in Punishing Gray Raven. Kuro loves action games and they want to make action games that is an ode to those games. They value player having fun with the characters, so much that you can get almost all characters in the games or get to try most of them out in different game modes. There not clones when other open worlds exist before these ones. Genshin is a copy of BOTW, because if you notice mihoyo copy or is inspired by a lot of things. Even in their manga and honkai itself. Tof is like other mobile games like Dragon Raja. Example: Gran Blue Relink's new open world is coming soon. You need to remember or search it up because, there's a lot of open world. I played some (or lot..) Gacha games, and I *absolutely* agree about the lack of playable male characters. Heck, within the around 10 Gacha games I played, 7 of them, the male characters are about 35% or less of the entire cast of the characters if not non existent (looking at you Blue Archive, Nikke and Azur lane). The only Gacha game that have a fair balance of male and female characters that I can think of it's Limbus Company with only 12 playable characters, 6 woman and 6 man, and I really like that. As much I think wide-reaching games need to focus on everyone for best engagement farming to advertise all their "stuff", their profits of waifus vs husbandos remain unbalanced. Until husbando hunters start throwing mad cash at them, game devs won't make more of them. One of my friend groups has 2 omega Alhaitham (hot character) simps in Genshin... and, iirc for these, his banner only took in 12 million USD (estimated at CN iOS). Top banner as of writing is Hu Tao (cute character, though seemingly many females also love her) + Yelan (hot character) double banner at over 40 million USD (estimated at CN iOS). All 3 characters are also very powerful and perform well in terms of gameplay and this is how it rolled (no pun intended) especially in a game that has a very broad cast. So if massive Genshin can't do it, then I don't think anyone else can. At least not at a commercially sustainable scale for an f2p game. The closest at the top of my mind is Final Fantasy XV. Even the pre-launch presentation interviewed a group of young women toting around a poster asking others to put a gold star sticker on who was their favorite boy. And a close second is Fire Emblem Three Houses I suppose. My Genshin friend group's girls went la creatura over the guys in those 2 games.

This actually made me pull out a calculator xD. As of version 4.7, there are 83 characters in the game, the current ratio of characters is 31/52 with (as you can guess) girls forming the majority, putting the "male population" of Genshin at around 37% Now, I can't say about how good that is as far as gacha games go, since I don't have much experience with many outside of GI, but considering how this video seems to frame the problem, I can only assume it's usually worse than that.

They're pretty much do the right job because now the female: male player ratio is 45:55. Some male player just want to play as male because they're cool (kind of like how my brother like Tartagliq because he's OP and I like Kokomi because her colour aesthetic).

(Not meant to trigger anyone or spread hate, just my experience on the matter. hope it helps) Kuro Games (Wuthering's devs) and Mihoyo have been competing for a while now even before genshin when it was just honkai and Punishing Grey Raven. Mihoyo has taken things from their studio and vise versa all in the name of a better gaming experience. Though it may seem like just a clone with a sci-fi coat of paint, it's only natural to try to one up your competition with your own style of the genre. I highly vouch for Kuro Game's music choice, storytelling and vision. As mihoyo was inspired by Evangelion, Kuro was inspired by Nier. All that to say, while genshin is very bright and happy with dark undertones, at their core, they are different. Kuro usually has dark as hell storytelling with glimmers of hope and great character drama. As for the art style, that style seems to just be really popular in general. They've had it for just as long as mihoyo. It's fine to want something new, but if you're not going to give it a chance to breathe then it'll be much easier to dismiss a game as a clone. I know i've made that mistake. On a side note. As a fan of both companies, i felt that the lack of men in honkai was kinda meh. However, when i started playing Punishing Gray Raven (wuthering waves predecessor), the male rep was insane; they got as much love and were often the funnest to play for me. The difference with Kuro Games is that their combat is never as simple as a beat em up like genshin, but makes you feel stylish like dmc. its okay if you dont give it a try though. i can understand getting swallowed in the sea of sameness. Im just here to say, knowing them, its going to hit different. Enjoy

I don't see how WW is a Genshin Clone, I mean, ¿just because it's open World?, not even the combat or gameplay is the same, and you would know that if you had seen some of the latest footage that has been released (Genshin itself it's unique by having the Elem. Reaction system, something that either ToF or WW is copying), ¿you want them to walk with their hands and swing their weapons by tying them on their hair or something, would that make you think it's not genshin-like?, I don't get your point of view about that aspect at all, the character models are really distinctive between each game you just mentioned too, and gacha games having too many waifus and very few male characters is a topic that has been touched upon many times, and in better ways than what you just did in this video, even for a rant this was really something, in all the wrong ways, and playing the victim by people correcting your point of view just gives you an even bigger bad look, hopefully you'll give yourself a chance to enjoy new games by what they are, by their own characteristics I mean, good luck with that mindset if you choose to keep it the same.

I agree that these games really need to make some more unique character designs that make them stand out. I don’t think they are copying genshins character design though. None of these other games have a character like yunjin, xinyin, razor etc. genshins art style is also very different to these other games like wuthering and tof. There’s a reason why genshin became the most popular gacha game and they definitely couldn’t do that if they had “generic” character models and character design. You can almost immediately tell if a character belongs to genshin solely based on their face model, not to mention the clothing and drip where genshins character design actually shines the most.

I don't think I've cared for guy in genshin since Diluc and I think that's my bias cause he was my first 5 star. Every guy in genshin has like, 4 personality types and you can easily take a guess on which it is based on their body type. When comes to gameplay I just really don't like action games like genshin because as soon as I catch up, I have to wait to play the story and the content dries up. Then by the time update for event or story comes I just feel no reason to play. My first break was waiting Inazuma, then once it came out, it took me forever to finish it. Now I can't even bring myself to play despite the new area having been out for a bit now. Arknights is the only gacha and care about banners for, because even though it is very waifu leaning like other games, it still at least has a very large male roster (if more of them events about them that'd be cool though). I play Crash Fever and Alchemy Stars, but that is still super casual rn

Yooo, try Path to Nowhere. Super amazing and engaging story, Great gameplay, Hot character design. The male is hot, the female is hot not in this 'kawaii' way. They're all baddies. They have this interrogation system so you could build that parasocial relationship with your fave character but the dialogue is amazing it feels like visual novel.

I play Ensemble Stars, which is mostly all men (with a few exception) and it's great I also play Tears of Themis, which is also fantastic. I'm also planning on playing Tale of Food, which looks like a really cool male only gacha game that's releasing tonight!!!!

I don't really see how the games aesthetically are the same, personally, but I do agree they need a more balanced gender ratio. Only one that comes to mind that is close is FGO, and that's a very, very old-style gacha that has no open world. Even then, it might only seem that way because of the sheer size of their roster, and they still refuse to make summer male servants you can roll on. They have White Day events, though, which is nice. Even so, you can tell most of the time and budget went into the waifu side of things.

While it's turnbased and not an action game, a gatcha that I absolutely love is Limbus Company, a dark emotional story but not without levity, highly enjoyable characters with a even balance of male and female, great unique art style, free to play friendly and the best part next to no horny at all, the story is not finished yet only going up to chapter 3 with chapter coming next month but I highly recommend it Oh and the best part is that the according to the April Fools event the main waifu type character is Virgilius and depressed, grumpy middle aged man who during the event takes the role of several main waifu characters in references to other gatchas
