I plopped down a Bola's citadel, cast 4 vampires and Malakir Blood Witch, then tapped the citadel to finish the game. So yeah, sometimes downhill matchups aren't impossible.

i've run into the Tabernacle a few times. now i just don't play with that guy. totally coincidentally, the rich dude with the 12,000$ stax deck is vehemently opposed to proxies. God forbid anyone else have the power that he does bc he "earned" those cards. i get stax to an extent, but why play commander at all if you don't want anyone to be able to play with you?
@tonyngo18852 жыл бұрын
Stax is a game of cat and mouse. I’m trying to stop you from winning, you’re trying to find a way to push through and win before it’s too late. Stax is a lot of fun in high interactive games like in cEDH. It forces players to think and play creatively and it also puts a lot of weight to your resources and interaction and it can feel like trying to solve a complex puzzle. Reactive control with instance speed stack interaction is not the same kind of control as stax. Stax answers a problem by presenting a problem where as traditional control is a game of timing and balancing resources to stay ahead of everyone. It’s the opposite with stax. Instead of controlling the tempo, you reset the pace of the game and then it becomes a question of how are you going to play through this and when is the right moment when you should try to win? It keeps games from becoming a rat race to the finish and also introduces some elements of politics into the game as well. Sometimes it’s best not to remove the stax pieces because although it might be slowing you down, it’s also slowing your opponents down and it can give you some time to relax and gathering your resources to break the lock and win all at once because if you break the stax but don’t win, you may have just allowed someone else to steal the win. The person playing stax is constantly weighing their decisions of what pieces will impact which opponents the most all while trying to survive being the archenemy. If they lock the game and prevent everyone from winning, they successfully outplayed everyone and it’s very satisfying because stax is a difficult strategy to play.
@Zelphiez2 жыл бұрын
Superiority complex I'd say as someone with just the information you've presented and past experiences with people of similar ilk. They feel better than others because their deck has the power level it does and being vehemently opposed to proxies give them an easy out as opposed to playing against other people with a similarly powerful deck with proxies and losing they can just feel superior because they think thousands of dollars worth of cardboard makes them better.

I play tab. im not rich just old, I don't put it in stax but rather run it in low creature builds which is a tough strategy to play. I used to run Humility with Night of Souls Betrayal in my Oloro deck. The deck had no creatures and Oloro works without being in play so it was completely one-sided. What's especially backbreaking about Humility is that a lot of the enchantment hate people play in green and white is on creatures like Reclamation Sage, Druid of Purification, Skyclave Apparition or Bane of Progress while grixis colors have very few ways of dealing with enchantments at all. ETBs don't work with Humility in play, so many decks literally have nothing or just one to two cards that can answer it. Lands like Cradle and Tabernacle make me glad that we now have access to Boseiju, who Endures, giving every green deck the ability to answer such oppressive permanents reliably. Strip Mine and Wasteland existed before, but in my experience not enough people were playing them whereas Boseiju is in practically every deck that can run it.

I think the last straw was roaring it from Jhoira to Ghitrog to Lord Windgrace and playing it a total of once. Finally sold it to help pay for roof repair and have never looked back. Survival definitely deserves it's spot though. I tend to play "fairer" decks with it and it still puts on so much work when it sticks. In Vintage, Wheel is definitely stronger because it doesn't recur your opponents Force of Wills and because you may wish to set up a Yawgmoth's Will, which Timetwister is not so synergistic with. But in Commander, I agree it's the opposite. Not fueling your opponent's graveyard is important. Further, there aren't enough copies of Force of Will in your opponents deck to worry about recurring one that has been cast.

Your list is a bit biased toward cards that became (unreachably) expensive only recently, Tabernacle excepted. Mishra's Workshop (despite the mention) and Bazaar of Baghdad are glaring omissions and those are probably the two most objectively powerful cards in the format. They do require build-arounds but if you want to watch your graveyard deck operate at level 12, get Bazaar out and see what happens. Mishra's Workshop in artifact decks is similar, being like a superturbocharger when you draw it early. Timetwister is also a big omission; it's designation as "power 9" feels like a product of its time but I think if storming is your goal, it's better than Wheel because it doesn't accidentallly fuel graveyard decks. Humility over Moat also feels like you haven't experienced the debilitating feeling of Moat. Humility shuts off value but it does to you as well; Moat is always going to be asymmetric if you build your deck for it. No one attacks you. You attack. Humility can still have you beat down by 1/1s and any deck making tokens can still get you; anthems still work too. I think you guys probably haven't experienced all these cards because they've all been hundreds of dollars since before commander was a format.
@NotSoSerious694202 жыл бұрын
Neither cards are particularly good in commander, casual, or competitive. They HAVE uses but even in artifact decks (mono U ususally) I would basically never want workshop ever. Oh boy I can cast my trinisphere turn one but am now unable to cast anything else because I have a land that doesn’t do anything for most spel cards. I play Urza in both high and mid power variants and have never wanted workshop even remotely. Also oh BOY let me draw 2 and discard 3 in commander! I’m now down 2 advantage for a land that does nothing for casting spells! Both these lands are usable in other formats but not in commander on any power level. Also for the most example I think you’re missing something, lots of newer commander decks don’t actually require attacking to win at all. Also someone (if they’re losing or are behind or don’t care) are WAY more likely to help protect a humility over a moat. I’ve never seen anyone help protect a moat but have for humility.
@JD-gk7eh2 жыл бұрын
@@NotSoSerious69420 If you're saying that your artifact deck doesn't want Workshop because you don't have enough artifacts to cast, you don't have an artifact deck. If your graveyard deck doesn't want a *free* way to put cards into the graveyard, it's not much of a graveyard deck then.

@@JD-gk7eh I play Urza THE artifact deck and you never want workshop. A land that cannot cast Urza is really, really bad. You do not want bazzar in most graveyard decks.
