Nitro HV Hooded Crow Mayhem With The Hornet

I am controlling hooded crows on a hill farm to help protect sheep and lambs during lambing time in the spring. Hooded crows will pray on young lambs or even fully grown sheep who can get stuck on their backs when heavily pregnant unable to protect themselves. The crows will generally go for the soft tissue areas like the eyes tongue and anus and i have seen the damage they can do myself, this wont kill the sheep right away but will leave it weak and injured with a long suffering death unless found by the farmer.
Magpies and crows will also take any eggs or fledglings of ground nesting birds that they find.
This can legally be done through the Department Of Agriculture, Environment And Rural Affairs Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 (As Amended) Licence.
This Licence hereby authorises for the purpose of preventing the spread of disease and preventing serious damage to livestock, foodstuffs for livestock, crops, vegetables, fruit, growing timber and fisheries ANY AUTHORISED PERSON to kill or take any of the following birds:-
Crow, Jackdaw, Magpie, Pigeon (Wood), Pigeon (Feral), Rook, Sparrow (House), Starling.
This was filmed on property that i have permission to shoot on with legally held firearms in a way as not to prolong or glorify the death of the animals.

Don't no if you want to pack more than one decoy bird.But it sure looked like,when the numbers 2-3 got up there.The birds seemed to have less fear. Enjoyed the video.I'm a airgun guy.take care

I think what might be happening is as i set up the birds i've shot the other birds in the area maybe recognise them and feel more confident to land.

My hide is a Dexta tractor with a Duncan cab, they kept coming to a nearby ash tree, they lay untouched for a week, in a neat row at the bottom rung of the gate!

Yeah its wondaful how much bird song you can hear just sitting in a hide like that I've even had the odd one landing on the hide and even gun barrel at times.

I really like the 17 hornet. I Normally just punch holes in paper at 200 yards with it at a local range. One sunny afternoon I noticed some chipmunks running around in front of the 200 yards target's roughly 180 to 190 yards from my bench. Normally I enjoy watching them run around but that day I decided to see what a 20 grain bullet traveling 3600 fps would do. I'll just say this. It looked like the little thing was turned inside out what was left. Wich was very little.

Yeah it will do the same on the smaller magpies but it seems to depend on where they hit the bigger hooded crows as to how much damage they do.

Yeah young at heart at least. I think with all the crows i've shot with the little 17 Hornet i've only had two or three runners and one of them didn't get far before the second round found it.

A good mornings work, I love the thud the round makes on contact. I've heard some criticism of the. 17hmr suffering cases splitting, is the Hornet better in that regard?

Its pretty good so far i have only split three cases while making up fire forming loads out of PPU .22 hornet brass as i've found the primer pockets in the factory Hornady brass isn't great for reloading as some were so lose they wouldn't even hold the primer.

Looks like its about £25 for a box of Hornady 20gr - Superformance Varmint V-Max though i haven't bought any ammo for ages as i prefer to reload.
