Nitro HV Hooded Crows With The 17 Hornet Lots Of Hooded Crows

I am controlling hooded crows on a hill farm to help protect sheep and lambs during lambing time in the spring. Hooded crows will pray on young lambs or even fully grown sheep who can get stuck on their backs when heavily pregnant unable to protect themselves. The crows will generally go for the soft tissue areas like the eyes tongue and anus and i have seen the damage they can do myself, this wont kill the sheep right away but will leave it weak and injured with a long suffering death unless found by the farmer.
Magpies and crows will also take any eggs or fledglings of ground nesting birds that they find.
This can legally be done through the Department Of Agriculture, Environment And Rural Affairs Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 (As Amended) Licence.
This Licence hereby authorises for the purpose of preventing the spread of disease and preventing serious damage to livestock, foodstuffs for livestock, crops, vegetables, fruit, growing timber and fisheries ANY AUTHORISED PERSON to kill or take any of the following birds:-
Crow, Jackdaw, Magpie, Pigeon (Wood), Pigeon (Feral), Rook, Sparrow (House), Starling.
Rifle CZ 527 Varmint .17 Hornet
Scope Meopta 4-16x44 Tactical
Ammo .17 Hornet with 20gr Vmax hand loads
Bush Wear The Bush chair hide
Range Finder Bushnell Scout 1000
Tactacam 5.0 and FTS unit

Nice sbooting, I had 8 about two weeks ago with the shotgun. I use a buzzard that I carved from a piece of closed del foam and painted up with glass eyes. The hoodies go wild and I set different cenerios, I havnt had much luckk with the rabbits here in Fermanagh Happy Christmas

That's a decent number and you must have spent some time carving that buzzard out, i have a few plastic ones but haven't used them for years, as for the rabbits i hope to try for a few with the night vison and rim fire some time.

@@NitroHV I carve realistic wooden decoys and wildlife , so it was not too difficult but I was supprised how much effect it had on the the hoodies and carrion crows I usually set up with the decoy on the ground near some sitty trees where the hoodies are more comfortable to settle to observe what's going on. That gives me an oppertunity to my have a shot . The farm where I shoot is quite extensive and there is no possibility tie pellet will land outside the farm and the site it remote.

In 1960, I had a savage, a 218 bee converted to a., PO Ackley 218 /17. Jack rabbits, crows, hawks were almost never out of range. Outside the high winds in western Kansas, USA. Most of the summer, played hell with the 20 grain HP's.

David, great to meet you sir! I am in Southern Oregon, and have vermin galore here. Born and Raised in the Greater Los Angeles Area (the beach!) moving to Oregon was a culture shock. But as I love firearms, it is a natural move. You are getting me excited about the 17 Hornet, and I bought a 17 HMR to see how rim fire in that caliber works. I am pretty sure I will get a bolt action, as I see your really good shots spoiled by a semi-auto in 22 LR, I think the value of 22 is in short, and long, and not just long rifle in 40 grain. Your videos are so good, and your narration so good I have watched ALL your videos, and do hope to see more of the wife and family. Yours at a distance... Great video, that hornet is some weapon, I started using the 22lr as cartridges are so expensive, I have a small trailer with a brown plastic cover made by Cunningham Covers in Tobermore! I use the 17hmr too get a lot of ideas from your videos but I don’t have your patience mate, Happy New Year David!

Yes Ravens are protected in the UK that includes Northern Ireland though i think the land owner can apply for a licence to control them but its only three birds a year.

Yes i use one of the Stealth Ghost camo nets with some raffia grass tied into it to help it blend in.

Bring your PCP rifle too for the ones in the trees . I despise Corvids myself, for the damage they do to other birds eggs such as ducks. My .17 Mach2 "splats" them pretty good.I am in Georgia U.S. and the Crows are an absolute Plague this year for some reason. I live out in the countryside and simply shoot them while sitting on my back porch.. I sometimes have 3 or 4 guns out there with me ! .17 Mach2 for close, .17 HMR for the lower field, long barrel 12 ga. For fly overs.. and a Break Barrel gas ram Rifle for the tree rats that are unlucky.. Every now and then I can get a shot at Ducks and Canada Geese flying by to the river and even some White Tail deer with My 30-30 Winchester. Hell, I guess my porch makes a pretty good hunting stand. I am in a Sandhill Crane migration route as well but none of my Scatter Guns will reach that high.. Don't think I would shoot them anyway., I love the way they sound.

Well i do like my wee 17 Hornet for the greybacks and it is fox capable but someone told me to always take enough gun with you and if your after foxes i'd look more at a .222 or .223 as their a lot more fox capable than the 17 Hornet and will blow chunks of hooded crow all over the place.

Oh! David on another thread... Why do you only take one gun with you when you are doing pest control? I would see you doing better with the shotgun, air rifle, and the 17 Hornet as they are each good in their own ways. Are you not allowed there to have more than one weapon out at a time?

Well i carry enough stuff with me at times with hide decoys etc so carrying another gun or two and the ammo would be too much plus the police here don't like you leaving any spare guns in you car unattended.

I do use high powered air rifles and slugs on my other channel HuntersVermin but up here on this hill it can start out a nice day only to quickly change into a wet and windy day which makes shooting with an air gun or even rim fire very difficult but with the 17 Hornet the wind isn't such a problem.
