If you pay attention close look at the floor pan around the bell housing of the transmission. Thing was bucking from all that power form each shift. Insane.
@mikewillett5076
@mikewillett5076 2 жыл бұрын
Yep saw that. Looks like that front round part of the trans tunnel wasn't secured completely to the rest of the tunnel. If it's was buckling THAT much I'd be worried about the chassis becoming riddled with cracks especially after all those years! (But you did say "bucking" not "buckling". I assumed it might've been a typo.)

Wow, that is some awesome driving. Kudos to your dad for it! Lay off the badgering about the brakes guys , have a look at how that thing goes down the track. I'm pretty sure if there was a issue with the brakes he would know, after all it says he has been driving and wrenching on it for 42 years. Impressive for sure.

For those who don't know what car he drove, it's a 1965 Chevelle.
@rexosteen5451
@rexosteen5451 11 ай бұрын
At 17, I had a 1965 Chevelle 4 speed 327, because my father was a Chevrolet dealer. The shifter seemed flimsy and the 2-3 throw seemed longer than with a Hurst. I felt safe power-shifting my friends '65 442, but not with the Chevy. I always cheated a litte by lifting my foot a little between shifts. (Please don't tell anyone.) My friends thought I was good, but I'm sure I my foot woud have tremors at a drag strip. It was my father's car. I had a friend who was a successful contractor who only drag-raced El Caminos. He was a strong man, and he'd have this same objective, except he'd let his left foot 'slip' off the clutch, so it would 'pop back.' I don't know how good this way was, but the 'car' would go sideways between 1-2 and 2-3.

Way to shift old man. Hit the next gear at top RPM and it will jump out.. I used to hit the clutch like that with a muncie 4/peed .at 6000 rpm.1st to second would just peep and jump out. '65' malibu 300h.p.fuely cam and solid lifters. Lifters were $ 1 a piece and corvette cam was $32 . No headers , only laker pipes. &48 plus tax was $50 for a 13.98 et at 101 - 102 mph. Drove it to work every day in Chicago.Bought the parts at Nickey Chevrolet . I am 74 yrs. Forgot a 4:11 posi , from Nickey also.

There is definitely a brake problem. I've been a mechanic for over 35 years. That is not a normal pedal, most likely air in the system or a by-passing master cylinder. Even might be a mis-match oi parts that he has not sorted out yet but works good enough to run? lol

When I was a teen only concerned with going fast and very limited budget. My '67 Chevelle drum brakes were just like this. I had to pump them to stop. Older wiser gearhead road with me and made me change the master cylinder before I hurt myself or other people. My pedal was now tight, high and no need to pump brakes. I didn't have a line loc. But pumping his brakes so much at end of run.....there is a problem!

Why keep pumping the brake?
@janj0n
@janj0n 9 жыл бұрын
The brakes are fine and it's a routine. OK. But why would I want the pedal to go almost to the floor, and why would I WANT to be pumping the pedal all the time? And I'm speaking as a person who has driven stickshift drag cars; I'd sure want that pedal high and hard, no wasted motion all the way to the floor, and pumping on shutdown, NO!
@blownonfuel
@blownonfuel 6 жыл бұрын
janj0n The pumping is to build brake line pressure for the burnout. If you take a close look you can see him pump the brakes then press the button on the switch on the shift knob. That is the linelock, it keeps the front brakes locked until you release the button. Pretty much everything up to pro mods use this technique.
