Thank you Kim for making this video. Very informative. I think I might start doing this in the next few months. Gloria

Thank you for the kind words. Please if you decide to go this route, make sure to be careful and open windows to have proper ventilation as nitrogen gas can be dangerous if not used properly. 😃

Very good info Kim! Also, very interesting and informative! I won’t be doing this any time soon but I found it interesting.

Thank you Robin. Do you think the “Airgone” might work for you? I know it’s not nitrogen, but Pure Argon Gas is used for preserving wine, coffee and food. That was the alternative I was meaning to tell you about. 😃💕

@@kimmididwhatI’m going to let my husband watch and get his thoughts. The food preservation is my “thing”. Especially the freeze drying. I may give it try.

You always have such informative vidios and I'm just surprised you have so few subscribers. How long have you been doing this and is there another format your using?

I’ve been fd’ing coming g up on 9 years in Jan, 2025. I’ve only been making videos here and there. I made my first 2 about FD’ing back in 2017, hated the way my voice sounded, made them private and then made them public again in 2018. I also was trying to be respectful to Betty because she did the videos back then and she was the one that started the fb groups and taught us in the beginning. I don’t want to get kicked out of the fb groups for posting links so I I usually only post in Laura’s and my group, Amanda’s who I moderate for and sometimes the “better” group. Steve and I have known each other a long time. 😃💕

How do you know the right amount of nitrogen to use?

How did you freeze dry bacon?
@kimmididwhat26 күн бұрын
Cook your bacon, drain, I pat dry on paper towels. I line my FD’r trays with a layer of payer towel, and a layer of paper towels over. I FD my bacon at 100° to 110° max on a full cycle. 😃

Hi Nikki, were you looking for the can seamer I used in my video? Or the large one to the right of the continuous sealer?

@@kimmididwhatboth please. Also what is the apparatus you are using for the nitrogen?
@kimmididwhat2 ай бұрын
@@nikkithornton8424, , The can seamers are an Ives way can seamer and an all American flywheel seamer. The parts of the nitrogen flush system are the 1. Nitrogen tank 2. Regulator 3. Hose 4. Trigger 5. Cannula 😃

If you insert gas and then use the vacuum sealer, doesn't that suck the gas right back out?
@kimmididwhat26 күн бұрын
The reason I do this is that the nitrogen gas is much heavier than oxygen, so when you flush the container with nitrogen, you’re flushing 99% of the oxygen out. Then when you vacuum, you’ve removed even more if it was left in there. The OA will absorb any tiny amnt that may have been left behind. You don’t have to vacuum after, I choose to ( except for delicate foods) because I know that my bags haven’t failed by sight. I’m in my food storage daily because we rotate ( fifo) and consume our food storage. It’s really up to you if you want to vacuum seal or not. 😃💕

What size OA do you use?
@kimmididwhat25 күн бұрын
That will depend on the size of Mylar, mason jar or seamed can that you use. Both PackFresh and Top Mylar have charts on their websites. 😃

It called a “Continuous Band Sealing Machine”. You can get them on Amazon, restaurant supply stores or Vevor. 😃
