The fact that the same developers worked on Zapper is actually pretty gratifying to me because even though it was really good I always had that thought in the back of my mind, "This is a frogger 2 clone." Well yes, but actually no. Regardless I was glad to see the frogger formula continue on through whatever the future frogger games do because I hated these games since I saw the box art.

Mel Blanc's screams are available on the WB SFX library. Blanc's stock screams and vocal effects are used less (because the recordings are old and low-quality) but a lot of studios still own the library because it has a lot of great general cartoon sounds and other SFX. Nintendo used sounds from the library in the finished version of Mario 64, and modified versions of the samples still turn up in Nintendo games occasionally, even today.

I've noticed that a lot of Dreamcast versions of PS1 games run better. When I saw Soul Reaver on the Dreamcast the first time I was shocked. I didn't have the words for it, but I was seeing anti-aliasing versus no anti-aliasing in a game for the first time in my life. I don't know why the Dreamcast wasn't more popular, a lot of the releases for it were much more stable than PlayStation's.

@kile1885
@kile1885 4 жыл бұрын
@@phantomninja6079 Its not just that, the structure of the game is the same as a collection, but instead of collecting an object you get points. You're on a small open level with a bunch of things to do, on a mario game you would do something (like getting to the top of the mountain or bringing the penguin down) and be rewarded with a star, on thug2 each goal gives you a certain amount of points to unlock the next level, you don't need to complete all of them, just enough to go to the next level (just like you don't need all stars in mario). And you do them while you explore the map, they're all on a list on the menu, but you need to find where it is and do it by yourself. I think thug 2 is the one that fits best because in other tony hawk games they give you a timer to do as much as you can in one run, on thug 2 you have unlimited time and you will spend most of it exploring. Thug 1 is also different but it mission based, you need to talk to an npc to activate the mission first, then do it, if a mission is to grind on 5 cars you can't just go there and do it, you need to talk to him and be on the "mission mode", so exploring the map is not as interesting because you are just looking for npcs to tell you what to do, you have no reason to just wonder around. I didn't play american wasteland so I don't know if it's like thug2 too

One thing I think that could of been done is that the eight playable characters could have had gameplay differences; it felt like we only played as Frogger with different costumes. I even have ideas for the eight characters special abilities. Frogger: Able to take two hits from most things (some things still kill in one hit) Lillie Frog: Fast movement speed Tad: Able to glide extra long Treeby: Triple jump Wart: Able to eat any insect enemy Tank: Able to stun animal and robot enemies, making them harmless for a few seconds (no effect on obstacles) Roobie: Able to eat many obstacles, but not robots or animals Swampy: Able to eat robots and animals, but will get full if it's used too much, and will have to wait a little to eat again

Playing the Tron like mode was our favorite and in race we'd tried to pin each other's frog and time it so that if you wait for a trap or car to come by with enough time to get pass it but have the other person wait, but you can get pinned in the middle of the animation and the other person can get safe and put you in danger so this plan can and will get countered or reversed.

little correction: Inputs are not only collected in between frames or during a specific moment in delivering a frame to a screen. The inherit lag of 30 fps is because there is less visual information for you as a player to process and new visual information takes longer to appear and not because inputs are collected and recognized at a lower rate. In fact, each button press interrupts a CPU always. Besides that, great review.

I enjoyed both this one and its predecessor, even though there where parts to the previous one that where a bit too difficult (Frogger Goes Skiing, for one).

The gliding move isn't actually that implausible. Believe it or not, there are a few species of frogs that can glide using their webbed feet. Judging from his green color and yellow-ish webbed feet, the Frogger in Swampy's Revenge most likely belongs to a species called Wallace's Flying Frog.

Were you aware that the PC & PS1 versions used early versions of the Dreamcast final music? You can hear slight changes for example with Super Retro Theme and Super Retro Theme (Alternate) on my channel.

We always played this on our PC when I was a kid. It was definitely my favorite game. I recently downloaded it onto my computer from some website and it runs perfectly smoothe in 1024x768

Yo, I know this is 3 months later, but what website and what windows are you using? on Windows 10 for me the game is in purple and green colors only and runs on half the screen (altho that might be cause of my resolution

@@koraxx2085 I'm on windows 10 too. You kinda just have to mess around with the resolution a bit. It also helps to run the troubleshooter because it runs the game like it would on Windows XP

I said this on the other frogger video but I played this one a ton as a kid (PC version from the framerate issues weren't nearly as bad) and I got it down to a science. I could complete the entire story mode in about 55 minutes flat. Very fun!

My grandparents bought this game on PC for when I visited, I knew it would hold up! A little disappointed you didn’t bring up the music at all, the tracks are really tight and simple, and they kind of get stuck in your head!

With all of the problems you were talking about in this video, I have a feeling you’re going to love some of the later games. I grew up playing Frogger: Ancient Shadow and Frogger’s Adventures: The Rescue on GameCube. They’re so fun.

Frogger 2 is truly an underrated game that's really hard to not talk about. I was shocked you didn't initially use the Dreamcast or PC version primarily because they're probably the best ways to go about playing 'em. I hope if someone ever shakes Konami of the license, we can get a GOG version of this or a remake. I'd love to see them utilize the characters in multiplayer in the story. Tank could totally be like E-102 Gamma and initially collect frogs for him but then change to Frogger and Lilie's cause after getting beaten by him before the space stages.

6:30 I'm pretty sure there was also a sound wave when croaking in the first Frogger *on PC.* I remember using it quite a lot to learn which way to go to find the frogs (in that dark maze level especially). How would it even work without a sound wave?

There are actually real life frogs that glide exactly like that! You can find them if you search flying frogs- its more than one species, even! It's really cool, bc it implies that the developers were looking for inspiration from actual frogs and the weird stuff some of them can do.
