Speak for yourself, I find the Sonic Heroes levels super memorable. ...May or may not have to do with Heroes being my first Sonic game, but I still think those levels have their merits. Also, I've Penny's Big Breakaway. It's a bit sad it hasn't gotten as much love as I feel it's earned, so thanks for throwing some attention this game's way. Surprised you were so mid on the last few levels/boss though. I thought they were really fun. Well maybe I'm just a sucker for when a final challenge bring a whole lot of stuff back to test you on all of them.

Really beautiful game, and imo the best survival horror since Darkwood, and now one of my all-time favs as well. I kinda wish they kept their inspirations a bit less obvious, but I'd lie if I said they detract from the experience.

one thing i started noticing as i llayed through the game is that there's no real consistent size for anything, like the ketchup packet banners are bigger than the soda cans, which have a similar size to bottle caps

I'm off and on with indie games still, but I'm always willing to try out weird games like this. I enjoyed Corn Kidz 64 after getting it (ending kind of left a bad taste in my mouth though, I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't played that game yet), but I'm gonna try this one out when I can, maybe I might like it a little better.

Those soda cans you pick up? It’s the soda from the first game Aggro Crab made “Going Under.” In that game you play as this intern for a startup called “Fizzle” making canned drinks with…interesting flavors. The fact that this is the very first kind of shell you get after going down into the sea. That game was also very anti capitalist so it’d make perfect sense this game, which is also anti capitalist, takes place in the same universe.

When I was a kid I was friends with our nextdoor neighbors kid and she had this game. And until recently, I completely forgot the name of it. I only remembered the character select screen and a little of the first level. I almost started to think maybe I imagined it because I couldn't find it anywhere and it didn't help that I forgot the title. I'm glad to know it was actually a real game.

IMO, if you took the monster design and use of the other world from Homecoming, and merged it with everything else from Downpour, you would actually have a *really* good western made silent hill. Nothing that will... ever approach what Kojima would've given us, that man is good at getting in your head without it being a horror game, but that said, My biggest gripe with this game is the monsters and otherworld are used poorly imo. While those are the only two things i think homecoming did get correct. (the crazy guilotine head monsters are actually one of my favorite monster designs ive seen)

I'm still relatively new to the Souls genre, I tried a couple in the past, had a super negative personal experience with it and gave up on the genre as a whole until I was convinced to try one more time. I tried Bloodborne and I absolutely fell in love with it and it became the first Souls like I've ever beaten and I was so proud of myself. Now I wanna beat them all. I've only been watching a playthrough of Crab Souls though, but I think it's so fun and creative, love it.

Those weird controls are part of what makes ghosts 'n goblins so interesting to me.

This might be an unpopular opinion but... I honestly think the survival horror gameplay is broken in the game, especially in harder difficulties, in a bad way. Once I realized that you will never get enough ammo to meaningfully defend yourself and that save points actually recover a fair amount of lifepoints for free any time you use it, it was over for me. Fighting stuff was almost always a waste of time and ammo, you can run past them, tank a few hits, and heal for free in the save room. You pretty much only need to kill some enemies inside key-item rooms that really kill you while picking up the items. The rest are just a waste of bullets and medicine that you can use in the boss fights. I say, save almost everything for the boss fights, use subweapons to down the few enemies you need to kill. Run from the rest, tank hits and abuse the free healing at save points.

if you loved this game's humor and writing, you should DEFINITELY check out Aggro Crab's previous game, Going Under, if you haven't already. They both have a lot of similar mechanics i.e your main combat abilities being random junk you find around the place that have different traits and that can break (the shells in this game, the weapons in going under) but instead of a soulslike it's a roguelike dungeon crawler. If you play that one, you'll also be able to notice a lot of little easter eggs referencing it in here, namely the soda cans are actually the product of the company that the main character of Going Under is interning for! Also the characters in going under are so fuckin charming I love Swomp (yes theres a guy named swomp) so damn much he's everything to me. Tldr play Going Under NOW if you haven't

Game is great, seems like it came out of nowhere. Also, just wanted to mention that Jedi Fallen Order is another pretty good soulslike that is a pretty good game for people to get into the genre. That's the game that got me into soulslikes

That's so sad, you younger guys. I was a teenager when these systems were out, and trust me we were telling your mothers to get you Xboxes and PlayStations not GameCubes and DS's. You should have been playing what we were playing at that time which is the PSP the PlayStation etc. Parents always get their kids the Nintendo console because they just assume that's the one for kitties and has all the kitty games. I remember buying a GameCube just for resident evil 4 and then I was mad when It got ported to PlayStation 2.

About pricing: Remember Corn Kidz and Psuedoregalia are made by 1-2 person team, whereas Evening Star is an entire team of people, who also need to eat and pay bills just as any of us do. Considering they didn't resort to using AI, $30 USD is absolutely worth a nice game of this quality made by real human beings, even if a bit glitchy.

absolutely loved this game and ive never had a soulslike click for me before. if you're on the fence and don't know if soulslikes are for you, i'd say give this one a try! it's a great way to get used to not only the combat and structure of those types of games but also that weird control scheme! also love the shortform nitro rambles, you should do more of these when you find surprise games you want to talk about

I like this but it’s just frustrating since it just shows that sonic mania didn’t have to be the same 2D flat looking stuff. We could have had a 3D classic sonic game that was decent with this team.
