Good to see you back on a bike mate. Considering the fact that you lived in Oz with your grandfather, I hereby declare you to be an honorary Aussie!! I'm from Townsville , North Queensland, and I used to watch your vids way back when you worked for Competition accessories. Nice choice in wheels, and I look forward to your future videos. Ride safe brother.

Omg yessss! I've been a long time watcher of your weekly rides back when you were with competition accessories. Started watching when i didn't even have a bike and now i've been riding for 3 years. Keep it up Reuben! So excited that you are bringing this back!

My addiction began on a 1979 KZ 1000 dresser that my cousin owned, took me for a ride and the rest is history, I was 10 and will never forget it, we still ride together.

I just got back into bikes a few years ago after a long hiatus. I haven't owned a Harley yet, but I have a similar nostalgic connection to yours in that my dad had a series of Electra Glides back in the 70s and 80s and used to ride me on the back. I hope to try one out someday if space and funds permit. Good on you for keeping an open mind. BTW, I just had foot surgery and have been binging your videos to ride vicariously while I'm healing--Thanks for the great content!

I went the other way, I’ve owned a Harley for 26 years then bought the Kawasaki Z900RS two weeks ago! Won’t be selling the HD though. Like you say, they are low maintenance with belt drive and solid valve lifters, so basically all you have to do is change the oil and check everything over, and they are reliable, never had any problems with mine. Also I bet it’ll last longer than the Z900RS because it doesn’t have all the electronics of a modern bike. Still love my new Z900RS though, done over 2,000 kms in 2 weeks.

Harley last longer than a Z900RS? In what universe? First valve check on the Z900RS is 26,250 miles. Japanese sportbikes have been known to go 160,000 miles and beyond with only basic maintenance and ZERO failures of any kind. Electronics are reliable. Since when was the last carbureted car sold to millions of commuters? Motorcycles are no different. Electronics are simply a few sensors talking to the computer. The computer is the same thing talking to the fuel injection.

They're really great bikes. They're not quite as comfortable for me as adventure bikes, but I know they're more comfortable for many different people. Definitely a solid bike to rack up miles, though. Quite reliable, tons of support, every aspect of that bike has been covered many times over in forums and what-not, so you can easily be set for life with that thing.

I ride my Road King Classic in Australia and across Australia and it has never let me down bar once after it had sat for a while, I was just working too hard to ride (sad story lol) and the battery died (after 5 years). Truly it has been awesome but it won't slow you down for long, after 18 months and 30,000k's I spent a pretty penny on the 103 and yeah, she goes now. Enjoy

She's a nice bike, well done on buying a bike that works for you and not just buying what everyone else wanted. I used to ride with my Uncle when I was a kid on his BMW R1100 RS sport touring bike and that style hits the nostalgic button with me. Hence why I went with a sport touring bike myself and so I can share that with my nieces and nephews as he did with me and that's something you can share with your kids as your Grand Father did with you. So yeah congrats on the new bike, will be looking forward to watching many more ride videos on it.

I have seen several bloggers get on their bike from the non-kickstand side. I tried it on my bike and it is much harder. I'm just wondering why it is done. Glad you are back. I was a WRR subscriber and quickly became a nitroRoo one as well, even before you added any videos. I am glad you are back.

I did not see this coming after the Kawasaki ride last week. It makes perfect sense with your family circumstances and I think you are going to have to hand out tickets to your kids to see whose turn it is to join daddy for a ride on the Harley. You have me dreaming now. Have a great time on the Harley. A wise decision and one I think your whole family will enjoy. Happy riding. I am going back to dreaming.

Enjoy the HD, but a 2005, watch for Cam Bearing issues, and Cam Chain Tensioner pads wearing out, and take your bike to a dealer and have them run the Vin # for Recalls 05 models had motor mount recalls and voltage regulator recalls
@davidfalgout73044 жыл бұрын
yea, they are last on the list of bikes that are reliable next to bmw..... as per consumer reports say, and as I witnessed when i worked for HD. For most, riding a HD has nothing to do with the bike. It is all about what the bike represents. In addition around here anyway.... all riders dress like pirate/bad ass wannabe's. 99% can't ride worth a damn, and just talk smack.

You're surprisingly right about the falling out of my chair part! :D Also waving to the other rider cracked me up, because in his place I would also be a bit confused. That said, I'm not against cruisers - although its not my cup of tea, I still understand other rider appeal to them. And got to say that your Ultra Classic is beautiful visually and sound-wise! Ride safe and enjoy the miles on this bike with your loved ones! :)

Glad you're back on two wheels, and great explanations as to why you chose your bike. I've been tempted by used Harley's mainly bc of the lower maintenance (no valve checks and belt drive like you said). Though for my use (and slightly more $ up front but even less maintenance) I'd love to have a Zero SR in garage to commute on.
@STOPsignforRT6 жыл бұрын
After the Z900RS video, it was a shock to see what you've purchased. But... you're getting older like the rest of us and our needs and tastes change with time. I'm well north of you in age and I no longer need to get there Fast. Instead, I just want to get there in one piece and with as much comfort and with as many conveniences as possible. Enjoying the ride is more important than reaching the destination. If you're going to review more bikes, I would love to see you test ride a 2018 BMW R1200RT. Not a big cruiser but a big sport / touring bike that is comfortable like the Harley Ultra Classic.

@NitroRoo4 жыл бұрын
Good question! I just rode it 900 miles over the weekend, to the Superbike Race at Barber. Nearly 400 miles on Saturday and over 500 on Sunday. It's a GREAT machine for traveling on two wheels which is what I prefer. It's also a great bike for commuting (something I haven't had to do since March). I bought it with about 18k miles and it now has 42k miles. Maintenance is very simple and it runs great. If I had the space to keep it alongside a bunch of other bikes, yes I'd keep it 10 years as my big touring bike. I'm up to 5 bikes and space is tight though... Might have to build a bike shed for the overflow :)
@brucesantacory13904 жыл бұрын
As a Retired Harley-Davidson Service Manager, you bought a VERY Maintenance Intensive Motorcycle, yes it has belt drive, and those need to be replaced at about 60K and watch the chrome molly on the pulleys. OMG did they sell you a Bill a Goods, the Harley Resale is a MYTH !! the Twin Cam Era HD Flooded the Market and the Resale Value has TANKED !!
@NitroRoo4 жыл бұрын
Bruce NHBeachBiker appreciate that you have a lot of experience with these, but I still feel the same way after owning many bikes. I do all my own maintenance. Have already done the cam shoes, inner cam bearings, and fixed a shifter shaft leak (the only real issue I’ve had). I put a lot of miles on my bikes and not having to adjust valves every 12k miles or maintain a chain still makes this one of the lowest maintenance bikes I’ve had. Also currently have a BMW R1150GSA and just sold a Triumph Scrambler. Both have had more to fix than the HD but I guess everyone has different experiences.
@brucesantacory13904 жыл бұрын
@@NitroRoo so you are used to high maintenance bikes, having had a BMW and A Triumph
@davidfalgout73044 жыл бұрын
Bruce you are correct. If "Roo" can do his own maintenance, that is a HUGE plus. For the poor folks that came into the HD stealer-ship ( BIG TIME STEALER) ...they would spend a months wages for shit that would break. Then, even though the work was done, there is still a very VERY good chance all that shit engineering would break again, with in a short amount of time. FWIW, I have worked as a tech at BMW and HD. I now ride a 2018 Vstrom 1000. I will never own another BMW or HD.....ever! I did own an indian Springfield for about a yr. Far and away better than a HD. I just do not like riding a bike so close to the ground. I prefer to look over traffic and if needed have the ability to do some fire roads etc. Even if a road situation / emergency required quick evasive action, the VStrom or the Zed900, would allow one to shuck and jive far better than a 900 pound HD or Indian. BTW folks, lay your HD or Indian down at home on something that won't scratch it. Try to pick it up. If for what ever reason you drop it out on a ride, there is a good chance it will stay there until some one happens along. ( unless you are in good shape. Most of the population these days ARE NOT. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cruising must be your thing. That's the only thing Harley's really do. If you want to talk about reliability, you have to compare to other motorcycle brands/models on the market that are VERY reliable. Reliability cannot be an subjective opinion.
