Ich glaube, das Problem war eher, dass wir etwas zu früh an der Hochplatte waren und weniger Geduld als Hansi, Felix und Max hatten. Am Sulzburg mussten viele auch ewig in der Luft warten. Ich kenne die Ecke wohl nicht so gut 🫣

Thanks for watching! I believe they are very different. The Cure 2 has longer and softer brakes, but is a bit more dampened in roll movements. The Artik R has very direct brake control (similar to Sigma 10) and reacts quicker. Wing overs and sharp turns are easier on the Artik, flying tight circles for a long time is easier on the Cure.

Another great video. Getting ready to fly my Photon this afternoon in moderate thermals. Disregarding for the moment the longer brakes travel on the Photon and less brake authority, can you compare the glider movement and workload of the Photon vs Arctic R?

Hope you enjoy the flights on your wing! I found the workload pretty close on both wings. While the Photon requires less attention to the outer brake even in turbulence, it can sometimes surprise with a sudden "loss of control" feeling when the brakes become really weightless and the canopy shows a deep-collapse-like movement. You have to act quickly. The Artik always lets you know what's happening in the air, but requires you to provide precise and quick brake input.

​​@@dymanoid Have you experienced a "smiley" (wingtips bending backwards) when entering strong lift (5m/s and more) on any of your flights? On my first flight with the Artik R (6h, 138km) in strong conditions (thermals were peaking at +7 and had high sink around them) I experienced my R taking a smiley shape once. I was on app. 20% break and flighing too light on the lower end of the weight range. So this behavior might not be representative if correctly loaded. Just found the R preferes no breaks when entering strong lift. Ideally even a touch of speedbar.

@@haukeplambeck I haven't seen that, but I can imagine it might happen even with a slight brake input. The Artik R tends to get a high angle of attack when entering really strong cores, so staying just a bit on brakes might cause the wing tips to (almost) stall, thus the banana over your head. I hate this "feature", so it was a no-go criteria for me about this wing. On my Peak 6, which probably has similar genes as Artik R, I can sometimes sense a massive increase in brake tension on entering strong cores. It also tends to slow down and to rock back a bit, but far less than the Artik R. If you are comfortable in counter-reacting with your speedbar, you can do it. I prefer not to do that, because it might get nasty if the core happens to be pretty narrow (as in my video) - you'll just hit the downwash accelerated with all the consequences.

@@dymanoid Thank you for your additional feedback on this. Much appreciated! That day I wasn't in a mood to accelerate into the thermal either. But going hands up the R was happy and it snapped when both tips got back in place. It was pretty impressive in a positive way. It needs active piloting especially in stronger conditions.

@@andresbahnsen1440 Thanks for watching! I don't want to recommend a wing without knowing the pilot, to be honest. The two wings you mentioned are very different in how they feel. It's better to try them and decide by yourself. Those wings are more demanding than Cure 2, so you should be able to react faster and be more precise on the brake input.

I'm not sure I fully understand your question. Are you asking why I mention that the outer side should be controlled while thermaling?

@@dymanoid 4:03 you mention work needed on the outer side. I am trying to improve my thermaling, my natural response in tight thermals is strong weight shift with inside break to keep the turn tight then when I feel as if the outside pulls round I use the outside break to stop this. I've not been taught this but this is my natural reaction to keep the turn flat. I asked because I'm interested in what other pilots feel when thermaling and what triggers them to use the outside break.

@@BenBowler Alright! So my comment was rather about keeping the outer wing tip pressurized. On some wings, you literally don't have to do that and can fly with outer hand fully up because the wing tips are really stiff, and you only catch the pitch movements. On Artik R, my impression was that the outer wing tips are a bit sensible to the moving air, so you need to keep some brake tension to prevent the tips from losing pressure and collapsing. From what you describe, you're applying a nice thermaling technique taught by many instructors. There are several ways to thermal: some pilots prefer to completely open the outer side, some prefer to turn flat and brake both sides, some control the outer side with the rear risers, and so on. I love to turn tight and use my outer brake to control the circle radius & bank angle.

I liked Artik's handling and Photon's B feedback on bar. The wings are pretty different in how they feel. But you should try them by yourself to get your personal impression.

Thanks for commenting! I didn't feel this wing was aggressive, but it surely requires proficient handling. I wouldn't recommend it as a first EN-C wing stepping up from EN-B. Still, it is surely manageable by a seasoned and current EN-C cross country pilot.
