Mk 3 is a work of art, mk 4 is a bloated pig.
@Numer1PolakКүн бұрын
The reason they are so heavy was because the mk3 was moving away from the sporty category and more into grand tourer. A Comfy two seater that can be sporty. Dollar exchange rates, economy, and tariffs. Forced them to make em higher "class" vehicles meant for more wealthy buyers, to keep margins higher. So they had thicker metal, double walls, sound deadening, plush automated seats and so on. Still one of my favorite toyota cars, they just look like a slick box and I love that.

Centrifical supercharger running off of front of motor. Instant torque and boost for autocross. Ideally positioned for the intercooler. It looks like a turbo- sort of ish, and your throttle whacks off the lights would be insane. But, all your options would be sweet......

I like all of those ideas. It would be interesting to see an all out NA build 4200. But is that original turbo car the one to do that with? How would you arrange the headers on a straight 6? Six long tubes into 2 collectors? A 6-3-1, or 6-2-1 to try for more midrange torque? ITBs from motorcycle throttle bodies? This could get nasty.

You need a turbo manual car, with an external BOV, in your life at least once. GT3076R, with a 1.06 hot side. Yes, small for a 4200, but on song from below 2000rpm, but still get to 6500rpm without excessive drive pressure. I dropped from a 3582, to the 3076, on a manual 4.5 I6, so much more fun to drive, with only barely noticeable power loss above 5500rpm.

Back when the gen5 wasn't even a concept car i talked about the I6 being ideal as a base performance motor for a new F body. I got a lot of push back from people, but the most absurd was the idea that 4.2L is just somehow too big for an I6. The thought was that the 2JZ was a 3 liter, the RB26 a 2.6L, so thats obviously the correct size for an I6. Besides the fact that if GM wanted to, they could easily produce a 3L version of the Atlas, the only things they could come up with were some vague notions of bore stroke ratios, ideal combustion chamber width etc.

MK3's are very under appreciated and personally I'd rather have the MK3 because of that. MK4 draws too much attention. I supercharger would be sick, but NA hp is usually better. This coming from a guy that is pushing 25psi (really small turbo) just to make 300whp with a little 1.8. End goal is 400ish I just need to put the bigger turbo on and finish the exhaust. The car only weighs 3280lbs with me in it and is a daily so I don't want to go crazy. I wish I could make that power NA! But I get 20mpg on pump E85 so I can't complain really...
