Audio starts a bit late for me. Otherwise, great talk! Thank you, Graham and whoever recorded this!

Great talk!. The runCommand example with an absolute path `cp /users//.../talk.md $out` did build and run on darwin (my mac os x machine). The presenter mentioned that even with an absolute path it would still fail?!?

But I it makes sense to use ${./talk.md} to capture the path in the nix store, and make the function (derivation) pure

Along the same line. The example with gnu hello, did fail. I used an abs-path into the store (/nix/store/....). So why did it not fail before with an abs-path on my (non /nix prefixed) file system to talk.md?

There was some issues with sandboxing on OS X vs NixOS. Either it wasn't as complete as on Linux, or was disabled by default due to performance.

I thought my system had some kind of graphics driver issue because of that part

that was a very good explanation! sadly the quality of the video is terrible...

Are you sure? It looks pretty decent on my end. Maybe you had momentary low bandwidth or a KZbin glitch at the time.

@@Cons-Cat i think i was referring to the audio quality. video looks OK

Sadly, this presentation mirrors others when in comes to the Why. Perhaps it was in the muted part but this one has too much detail and virtually no quick way to fund why one needs NIX over other options.
