At that time US had some great politicians. No one in US now dares to do what Nixon did.
@woozy74052 жыл бұрын
If you actually look at all the accomplishments of his time he was a great president. But in his legacy since then both sides have basically abandoned him and made his name something no politician wants to be called. He had only one problem and it was his leadership ideology. He believed in a more powerful interpretation of the presidency and thought he was above the law. That's a negative thing but it shouldn't be used to characterize his entire presidency.

Excerpt from Wikipedia. Glen Cowan died in 2004 at 52 years of age. He had been hospitalized for psychiatric treatment and underwent a bypass surgery. During the surgery, he went into a coma and died of a heart attack. Zhuang Zedong called from Beijing to express his sympathy, and in 2007 visited the United States, and met Cowan's mother. He called never seeing Cowan again the greatest "regret of my life."

Chiang Kai-shek brought China's money to Taiwan Province, Mao Zedong had no money, and the Soviet Union asked Mao Zedong for money, and had no money to compensate the Soviet Union, so they had to pay some food to the Soviet Union, and the Chinese had to provide the government with labor free of charge! The Soviet Union will die! The Soviet Union oppressed China many times in World War II, and even Zhenbao Island triggered a war. The Soviet Union Yang Yan wanted to bomb China's northeast heavy industry area with nuclear weapons! After Mao Zedong took control of China, the Soviet Union always asked for money from China. At that time, Chinese money was brought to Taiwan Province by Chiang Kai-shek. Mao Zedong had no money, so he could only use some fruits and vegetables to compensate the Soviet Union. At that time, Chinese people didn't have enough to eat, but also provided the government with unpaid labor! The suffering of Chinese people is all due to the Soviet Union! The Soviet Union has to fight against the United States, NATO and China, so the Soviet Union will die, and China's economy will develop rapidly after the disintegration of the Soviet Union! The Soviets are evil. I don't know why the present Beijing government wants to do some military cooperation with Russia!

China was a United country 2000 years ago. The expansionism continued until the Qing dynasty up to Tibet which extends to some parts of so called Indian's territories now in the 20th century. India was only recognised as a country when it declared independence in 1949. That was only few decades ago despite the fact that Indian civilization were millenials. And there never was an actual Indian country but smattering kingdoms of the maharajahs before 1949 held under British rule. So one can say that India was in fact reorganised by their British masters under one entity.

@@Grenadier311 It was in the Cold War, and nobody saw China would become what it is today, including Nixon. Getting Communist China to side with the US against the USSR was seen as a significant victory and tilted the balance towards the US, which contributed to the eventual dissolution of the Soviet Union. One key flaw in your way of thinking is ignoring the fact that the rest of the world has its own agenda. While US policy can influence events, it's not America's fault if something goes the other way on the other side of the world! After the death of Mao in 1976, China was going to reform open up its market under Deng anyways. The alternative could be letting the resource rich USSR (if they were smart enough) invest and set up their industrial base in the manpower rich China, and more, since they were a lot closer in terms of ideology. The Cold War could have ended differently.
