As a Singaporean who lived in Australia, its not that the West is failing. But certainly when crisis arise Chinese people solve it with brutal efficiency while Westerners become armchair philosophers to debate human rights and governmental systems. Still baffles me, if there is a fire in your apartment you put it out right, but Westerners would spend time debating where the fire came from while criticising their roommate's way of life, who may or may not have accidentally started the fire.

@@jammin1881 The fact you still believe that conspiracy this far into the pandemic is honestly concerning. Corona virus is a natural virus plain and simple and any attempt of saying China purposely leaked it is simply ridiculous. The Chinese Communist Party may not be the most democratic or the most liked government but there is no reason for them to release a virus that will negatively the entire world economy or even design it in the first place. People like to argue that the virus heavily affected the United States and therefore it must be a bio weapon from China but we have to remember that the first people to be hit by COVID-19 is the Chinese themselves. There's a reason why the lab leak remains a conspiracy and not a main stream fact in the scientific community. In fact its already been proven that the Corona virus is not engineered

Whatever you say China being an oppressive, authoritarian regime, or one that is only boasting successes and concealing failures, it won’t change the fact China remains the top-most country most trusted by its own nationals. Its approval ratings > 90% is envied by all its western counterparts. The dramatic growth of its economy in the last 4 decades, making its the 2nd largest economy after the USA. Its ascension to the middle-income bracket while lifting nearly 800 million people from poverty. Its success in beating the covid-19 pandemic with the lowest infection and death rates among major economies. Advancements in 5G/6G, quantum computing/telecommunication, space exploration, Beidou navigational system, etc, all of which are making China one of the most competitive countries. This only says one thing loud and clear - its socialism model with unique Chinese characteristics is one that is working, and for that matter, it is far more efficient than Western Capitalism Model where 99% of wealth is controlled by the top 1%. China is now embracing on its latest 'Common Prosperity' program, building an even bigger middle class group as well as spreading the national wealth more evenly among its nationals. Perhaps in the not-too-distant future, China will attain its goal of national rejuvenation, regaining its leadership position in the central stage of the global arena, leading its vast population to prosperity, stability, and peace.

To paraphrase, it's not ideology that matters. Regardless of whether it's capitalism or communism, what counts are the results ie the people can have food on the table, be decently covered, kept warm with a roof over their heads, and be educated with its history and culture as foundations. To the CCP, it's NOT the PROCEDURAL matter of having multiple parties, one person one vote (universal suffrage) nor elections every 4 -5 years aka democracy as practise currently in the liberal world. For the CCP, it's the measurable OUTCOME (as defined above) that counts via its political system and structure ... regardless of how you label it .... as communism or whatever.

The other is one of the most impotent and incompetent political Union on the face of the planet earth that is extremely fragmented along the national, religious, political and ideological lines. I've been living in China for more than 20 years. I want to point out that "one-party" or "No general election" doesn't mean that Chinese people cannot express their opinions or criticize the government. The West always tends to describe China as a nation without "freedom" and the people living there are "unhappy" under the high pressure of the central government. But the fact is actually the opposite. Chinese people are satisfied with their leader and system. They trust the government because the system enables the government to find the most capable politicians to "Serve the people" but not make the election become a ridiculous game of the rich.

Absolutely agree. I find it interesting how Chinese and people from many democratic countries have a completely different mindsets in terms of government. Eg when facing the pandemic, many people in the western countries view the measurements taken by their government such as lockdown and vaccine as a violation to liberty/human rights. However in China, people see these measurements as an inherent responsibility of the government. They think that by doing so, the government is caring about the people's live, and they willing to participate together to achieve the same goal as with the government. I think this mindset is the crucial point of why the virus has been contained so well in China, and this willingness to cooperate with the government is unseperatable with the China model.

One of the biggest failures of western countries I observed is that instead of acknowledging and working on their own social, political or racial problems, they tend to blame all problems on someone else or divert the focus by making new problems just because it's easier. Fundamentally it's lacking of accountabilities. I believe competition is essential for improvements, why do we always have to spilt the world by ideologies such as democracy vs autocracy, capitalism vs communism, liberalism vs conservatism? Wouldn't the world be a better place if everyone can learn from their counterparty, compete freely and evolve?

@Jdjdjd Ridid Europe is not safe, just like the rest of the world. You have to understand that just because it's Europe, doesn't mean Russia and the wars in the Middle East isn't a problem. And in fact unemployment wouldn't be an all time low in Europe without COVID. Because in 1930's Germany, 100% of the population was employed... And also very happy, because all those who were not happy disappeared. I do have to point out that measuring safety and harmony is quite a dangerous metric. The perfect system according to this model, would be a system where feeling anything other than safe happy is illegal, and every group that is perceived a "threat" to their group are wiped out, and everyone are educated to believe that their lives are perfect.

One of the things I hear that’s commonly repeated by western media is how the cultural revolution and agriculture reforms were an economic failure for China. While if you are judging from the economic perspective, that is true. But, that is where the point is missed. The point of the reforms weren’t to make China rich at the time, it was to change the culture of bourgeoisie and elitism to “re-set” the nation together so it wouldn’t grow apart, so people were United in mind, spirit, and actions. Money wasn’t on their mind, because that wasn’t important for the whole at the time. It was not about the individual but creating a new culture. This wasn’t just communism that caused this but they were searching for this new culture since the early 1900s with the decline of the Qing Dynasty, and inability of the old system from protecting Chinese peoples and lands. It’s hard to interpret another system if you don’t understand the history and context. Every analysis I hear from the west is from the Western perspective and applying western understandings and their own beliefs onto China. That in itself is a fallacy. If you are a plumber and judging everything like a broken window from the plumbing perspective you are not getting the whole picture and misconstruing facts to fit into your own narrative.

Collectivistic economy model in China rural area at that time allows Government to have the ability that can arrange millions of jobless young men/women to work in the land of the rural. Many of them are ones of the new generation (born in 2000s), who many consider to be young foolish and lazy people. But they bravely stepped forward, not seeing family for months, fainting from the heat in their protection gear, faces swelling up from long hours with masks, hard work in exchange for the happiness and security of their homeland and their fellow people. They proved those accusing voices wrong, and in doing so earned all of our respects. Salute to them❤️

Deng Xiaoping was one of the greatest political and government leaders of all time. Very few people can claim that they have affected not only their nation, but the world, as much him. He is easily on par with the Founding Father's in America, and should be studied by all people interested in politics and governance. The fact that most people in the west do not know his name is a true shame; we could learn a lot from him.

I beg to differ. We all know what is actually happening in the world, it is all in the news however, what is behind all that is happening is largely due to the country's concept of such ideology adopted, which is a sensitive word for the west that has been overly use to dictate "which ideology is the best" instead of understand all the pros and cons of ideology and come to embrace the differences of system. Unless if you are questioning the history and origin of ideology, that is a different story in this discussion.

Not only ideologies. Bloomberg won't say anything about the power of lobbies in a democratic governments. Many countries in Europe changed their system because of prolonged wars and crowny capitalism within kings and their clergy group. Now US is in the same situation where lobby capitalists have influence in the government including Bloomberg. But in China there are capitalists even within the government, but not "capitalism". And after the war in Ukraine, US and their allies are showing more weakness by inflation, debt and ideologies, China is asserting it's influence through Belt and road initiative.
