Because Nixon was nosey, and wanted to know about JFK assassination, and have leverage over the CIA. Nixon had (at the point of 1972) been apart of FOUR national elections. *FOUR*! And had held public office ‘46, so 25+ years of experience. You don’t think he knew where to find dirt on his opponents? And had his own connects for that? Right…Watergate was a setup. A partisan coup d’état. John Dean sold out the boys to save his skin, and keep the dirt on that thot wife of his out of the public.
